This place is a diamond!! By far the best place to stay in the area if you want to explore the trails and lakes! They have a short trail that connects to the local mtn bike trail system! It is on a private lake which is incredible for swimming, paddling, and fishing!
Huge sites that are tucked back in the woods so you are not right on top of your neighbors. Each site also has a charcole grill next to the fire ring. They have on site firewood that was super dry so easy to start which was greatly appreciated!
Bathrooms were super clean and showers did not leave you smelling like iron (this was an issue at other local campgounds).
They have a beautiful dock that sits on a private lake! The water clarity is 20+ft and you can see tons of fish right from shore, including from the dock!
DOG FRIENDLY!!!!! You ARE allowed to leave your dog (kenneled up of course) while you ride (unlike the rest of the area campgounds)!!! The local DNR are not friendly when it comes to trail dogs even if they are leashed. Do not ever drop the leash even if it is for the safety of you or your dog. They are known to kick you out without warning. Other campground (DNR owned Portsmouth camp) do not allow you to leave your dog unattended and will fine you if they see this. Glad a place in the area finally created a dog friendly campground! Thank you for this!!!!
The owner's and family are extremely friendly and really go out of their way to make you enjoy your stay. You could not ask for better people to make you feel safe if you camp alone like myself! Thank you for creating such an amazing place!!
This is definitely the place to camp in the area and blows all the other places out of the water (I've stayed at all the other campgrounds locally). I can't wait to...
Read moreLocation is great (access to trails, dock on the lake, nice campsites/facilities, etc) but the management left some to be desired. We had booked one night (Sunday) since it was the only opening available and stayed the previous night at the Cuyuna City Campground. We saw the check-in time was 4pm so we planned on doing all of our activities during the earlier parts of the day then setting up and enjoying the campsite as soon as we were allowed. So we stopped by around noon (check out is 11am) and asked if there was any flexibility to check-in times since the campground was mostly empty (and it being a Sunday). We were told that they "needed to clean out the fire pits and mow the grass at the site" before we could check in, and that they would text us as soon as the site was ready. We thought that was understandable and found some more things to do in the meantime (keep in mind they do not allow you on the grounds prior or post check in/out). We never ended up getting any text or call from the campground so decided to go into the site at 4pm. When we got there we noticed a few campers near our site just finishing setting up (talked to some of them and they arrived around 2:30), the fire pit had trash and some half burnt firewood in it, and there was about 3 total blades of grass at our site. We were a little salty at that point because we could've had our campsite setup and enjoyed the couple hours of daylight we had left by then. We understand the place gets busy in the summer and it's not a huge resort but 5 hours between check in/out times is a ridiculous amount of time to prepare the few campsites they have (especially on a Sunday), and the campground's strict rules/inability to communicate took away from the good things the place...
Read moreWe've been going up to Crosby for a few years and I don't know why we have never stayed here, because it is our new fave place!
I like to rough it, but my husband needs to glamp... so he loved the mini fridge and screen door so he could see outside but not get bitten up.
I loooooooved the views and jumping in the cold lake and omg I have never seen so many wild strawberries in the woods before, I can't imagine what it is like when they are fruiting. I took a lot of nature photos after it rained, really beautiful grounds. Lots of great plants. The honeysuckle was blooming and we saw a hummingbird eating at one of the bushes, lovely!
Beds are actually comfy, woo hoo! Plus excellent location, easy to buzz into town for coffee & food and easy to jump on the trails!
The kitchen came in so handy to heat up leftovers and that toilet paper in the bathrooms is the most luxurious ever!!! I can't wait to go back but they are always booked up when we wanna go.
I do wish there were trail maps in the binder in the rooms, I really like to study them and decide where I want to ride.
UPDATE 9.6.2023: Our 2nd stay here was very nice. My mom loved it! We did use the bunk beds for the 1st time and although comfy, if the bottome person is a restless sleeper you can feel every wobble.
Use the connector trail for the 1st time and it was the best for not having to load up bikes onto the care. Bike out and ride right to Yawkey which is our fave unit. We love the little kitchen more and more each time too... such a money saver so we don't have to eat out all the time. And... just booked our 3rd stay for this fall. We...
