We found Casa Resaca via Trip Advisor and the many reviews here provided a good picture on what to expect for this property. Maureen & Cliff were helpful & responsive prior to our booking and leading up to our 2 night stay (shortened by 1 night due to flight delay out of San Juan). ||We arrived mid-day and Cliff & Maureen greeted us upon our arrival then showed us our rooms (the front room upstairs & one on main level in front). They gave us a few tips & suggestions (ex. places to rent snorkel gear (a must for Culebra!), best beaches and dining spots (note: The Krusty Krab is a must for a magnificent sunset (1 of the best tips from Cliff & Maureen was "get to the Krusty Krab early to get a table as it's first come first serve").||The property and rooms are very clean and comfortable. It is not a 5 star luxury resort (there are none on Culebra to my knowledge) and they don't have daily room cleaning/ towel service, but we didn't need it for our brief stay, however, I am sure that Cliff & Maureen would accommodate if attention was needed. Our rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and air conditioning worked great.||The common areas are limited (one indoor on screened-in porch, one on front porch and the small outdoor patio /area by dip pool) and they are just that, common areas, so just understand that if you spend time outside of your room that you will probably be interacting with other guests as well as the hosts at some point.||Yes, there are roosters and they make a lot of noise, but when you visit Culebra you will quickly see they are everywhere and I'm not sure there are any accommodations that would avoid the roosters.||The location is not central to downtown and is not beach front, but that's not an issue on this small island. Downtown is only a 5 minute golf cart drive and most beaches are only about 5-10 minutes via golf cart. Casa Resaca provides beach towels and beach chairs to use which was one less thing to pack or rent upon arrival.||All in all, this property and the host...
Read moreOn our second visit to Casa Resaca we warmly welcomed by Cliff and Maureen, just like the first time! They have created an amazing guesthouse and are a delightful couple who do a really nice job at making sure you have everything you need - directions, suggestions, recommendations for grocery, beaches, restaurants, food trucks and snorkeling. ||||The rooms are basic but with island living, you don’t need much. We stayed in room 1 (upper level, back side of building). Everything was very clean and nicely staged at our arrival. AC unit is a life saver to both cool down at night and minimize the rooster nuisance (really not that bad). Island breezes are great too. ||||Their fully stocked kitchen (dishes, cookware, coolers, refrigerator space, grill, ice) is a perfect launch pad for the day. We made breakfasts and lunches daily which made our budget stretch for more expensive dinner options. Everything is clean and very well taken care of and the coffee pot is always full. ||||Everything on Culebra is within a few minutes (golf cart) drive from Casa Resaca. If you go up up up up up the hill from Casa Resaca and then down down down some rough boulders, there is a beautiful, private beach where you could easily waste away for a day (skinny dipping?) Wear good shoes and bring water! The hike is worth it! Casa Resaca provides beach towels and beach chairs but rent your snorkel gear from town. ||||It is a guest house, not a hotel, so make sure to set your expectations. You won’t have new linens every day and they don’t provide little bottles of soaps, and you need to clean up after yourself in the public spaces. What they provide in character, comfort and island lifestyle is worth so much more. Will return...
Read moreWe stayed at Casa Resaca for 5 nights and stayed in room 2 on the upper level. Right away we were cordially welcomed by Cliff. He carried my bag up to the room and showed us around. The room was nicely decorated and very roomy. To my surprise, there was a hair dryer and coconut shampoo in the bathroom. The room was very clean and had ample storage area for placing clothes. In the morning, Cliff always had some coffee available. I enjoyed having some great Puerto Rican coffee and talking to Cliff. He and Maureen were available to answer our questions and point us in some good directions as to what to do and where to eat dinner. Since there are few places to get breakfast in Culebra, the communal kitchen was really great. You can save a lot of time by preparing your own breakfast. Every day we went to one of the beaches and took along complimentary folding chairs and beach towels. In the later afternoon, we usually went in the dunk pool which was so refreshing. Cliff would come out and put the jets on for us. Next to the pool were bird feeders with all kinds of sugar birds and humming birds. There are lots of wild chickens all over the island which can be nice but I was getting woke up by a rooster starting at 3:30 in the morning. Even with the air conditioning on, it didn't drown out the noise from the roosters. I would suggest bringing ear plugs and that might fix the problem. One thing they did not have is facial tissue. Normally not an issue but I came down with a cold a few days into the trip. I know if I return to Culebra that Casa Resaca would be the only place I would consider staying. It's not located in the congested town area but a few minutes drive away in Avery...
