The Best Campground in the Black Hills – Big Pine is a Gem! We just returned from an incredible week at Big Pine Campground in Custer, South Dakota, and I can confidently say this is the best campground we’ve ever stayed at! The location is unbeatable—direct access to over 1,400 miles of hiking trails right from the property. Whether you’re into short scenic walks or full-day adventures, you’ll never run out of options. The campground itself is immaculate and peaceful. The sites are well-spaced, quiet, and surrounded by beautiful pines. They offer everything from full hookup RV sites to remote tent camping spots, so every type of camper is covered. If you’re coming with an RV, sites 56 and 51 are the best for full hookups—spacious, level, and tucked into gorgeous scenery. The amenities go above and beyond. They even have a food truck on-site with amazing food, which was such a treat after long days exploring. And the people? Absolutely wonderful—friendly, helpful, and welcoming. We’ve been to many campgrounds across the country, and Big Pine stands out by far. It’s quiet, clean, and perfectly located for exploring the Black Hills. This will absolutely be our go-to spot for our yearly trips. If you’re planning a trip to the Black Hills, don’t hesitate—Big Pine Campground is spectacular! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This place is fantastic! The campsites are wonderful, well-located, and easy to access; every site is surrounded by beautiful pine trees. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained. The showers have good water pressure, and get nice and hot. The hot water never gave out even with multiple people showering at the same time. The camp hosts are super nice and helpful. There are on-site laundry facilities, and a gameroom. Overall, the whole campground is well located; you can barely hear any road noise from the nearby highway. We can't wait to stay here again!

What a gem! We stayed here for 3 nights while exploring Custer and Custer State Park. It's a beautiful campground with many "Big Pines"! I was worried about maneuvering our rig through the trees to our site but our 45' Fifth-Wheel made it just fine. Our site had plenty of room for us as well. The nights were peaceful and we heard just a bit of road noise during the day. No biggie at all! The owners and employees really care about this campground and making sure the guests have a great experience. We will most definitely stay here again next time we're in Custer!

Rest rooms and showers were clean. Our site not the best with being on motorcycles and others were open. Fair prices. Greg was wonderful great customer service but the your lady riding the golf cart not as helpful and didn't care. Being on bikes we had some laundry to get to the laundry room. Some wet from being caught in the rain. Greg was extremely helpful with providing a few rides but.... when we flagged down the young lady who was flying by and skidded to come to a stop she said a big flat no when I ask for a ride with the heavy bag and guess what. After we carried the heavy bag to the laundry mat just minutes later there she stood doing laundry. Now that's sad. I guess she doesn't know what customer service is. Oh well wont be back. As far as the food truck gave the employee a nice tip for a good gyro. Not what I expected had almost nothing in them. Again another shout out to Greg. For being a worker camper he is fantastic!!!!

Apparently very poor management located at this campground. Is this a franchise or privately owned. Unable to recognize a good performer versus poor performance. Manager called via telephone condemning Greg stating he should not have provided a ride on the golf cart.

The laundry mat is a mess. It is dirty, half the machines are out of order. The grounds are not maintained. Big ruts, a stone road with ruts and no lights at all. The dumpster was overflowing and had a bad odor. But the showers are clean. They definitely need doors. I did not report it but while I was in the shower with the shower with the curtain closed I had a female enter my shower while I was naked. I am definitely not a happyvcamper. Do not call me again .

As to your reply all information is factual if you like it or not . Truth hurts. I am totally Permitted as a consumer to provide the truth . And no i am not married. Just a person who camped there and found it all to be less desirable. You are funny. You called me when you were not happy. Report me for what. The...

Pleasant, quiet campground in the woods that stretches from the highway to the hilltop in the pines near Custer SD. We used it as a base to visit Rapid City and the South Dakota Badlands. Be sure to pick up the Black Hills and Badlands map from the campground - very helpful to find out where the activity centers are and how to access them. Saw two herds of around a hundred bison each while traveling from the Badlands visitor center along the Badlands Scenic Byway and Rim Road. We happened to be in Custer on the first weekend of the annual Harley-Davidson Sturgis rally, which took over most of the small towns in the region, but they’re experienced in accommodating this event. Everyone was well-behaved and respectful of each other so it was no problem for us, and the campground was buffered by its frontage road from the biker traffic. By all means check out the food truck, the Pudgy Bison IIRC, at the campground. While we were there, one of the dinner items was fish nugget tacos, 3 per order, made from walleye, which is a very tasty fish. The taco veggies and sauce with the walleye made a truly delicious and slightly spicy combo that we ordered two nights in a row. 1 order enough to split for two seniors, but more energetic youth may want all 3 for themselves, or burgers, breakfast burrito or other menu items. This young man has a future in the chef business if he wants it. Less expensive than eating in the restaurants in town. Delivered to your campsite or have at the...

We stopped there for a night and got site 41 close to washrooms/showers. Our site was ok but we had to climb stairs to get to the picnic table and fire pit, not ideal but not the end of the world. Price was fair for electricity and water (55$ with taxes).

Overall the site is located on a hill and we had to walk a good 10 mins from our to get to the laundry room.

It was also a bit annoying to have bikers and delivery trucks blocking access to the dump station. The showers close to our site had a breakdown and hot water was not available and we had to walk another 10 mins to get to the other washroom station but those things happen.

The most annoying thing was the noise coming from the bikes there. Must be a stop on a way to a rally but always puzzled when folks let their bike running while parked at their campsite. Ho well, okay for a day but there is no way I would have stopped for a longer stay with all those noisy bikes…

Reply to the reply

So I got a reply for the campground. Here is my reply to the reply because we have to be honest, right?

1- Like I wrote I paid 55$ with Taxes, so nothing to correct here. May be you want to see the receipt tou gave me?

2- YES I was aware of the bike rally and good for the bikers BUT you said nothing about the fact that bikers were blocking access to the dump site…

3- I was giving you four stars but how about three for not...
