Upon our arrival, the staff greeted us with the biggest smiles and were so kind to us and our four young children. They are a family owned business that really takes pride in their place. They shared the property’s history with us and gave us ideas on what to check out near by. We stayed in the 6 person cabin. It had up-to-date amenities, was clean, and clearly well maintained.
After we unloaded, we hiked to the overlook on the property to see the breathtaking view. The kids had a blast running the trail to get to the top. We worked up an appetite and picked up take-out from the Winking Lizard not too far away. There were two showers with hot water, so it made for cleaning up the muddy kids a breeze. It was nice that they provided towels as part of the reservation and we didn’t have to bring them. We signed into the Wi-Fi to watch a movie and played board games. The kids loved hanging out on the back deck with a swing, rocking chairs, and bonfire pit. The heat in the cabin kept us all warm on a chilly spring night and the thermostat was easy to use.
The room with the double bunkbeds was a big hit for the kids. We had our toddler sleep in a pack n’ play that we brought. It fit perfectly in a bathroom (both bathrooms worked for sizing purposes), so she could have her own space inside the main bedroom. The windows had black darkening shades on them too - great for our toddler when it’s still light outside at bedtime. The one story floor plan was also safe for a toddler. We didn’t have to worry about gating anything off.
In the morning we used the kitchen appliances to make breakfast. They had everything we needed in their cabinets (plates, pans, measuring cups, spatulas) to whip up the food we brought. There was a dishwasher too. After that, we explored nearby Indigo Lake and the National Park’s visitor’s center.
The Valley Overlook is close to our home (15-20 minutes drive) and was the perfect getaway. It was good for the soul to recharge in nature and create memories as a family. We hope to visit again when the...
Read moreI wanted an experience for Christmas, and little did I know this would be perfect. We called a week before our stay to make a reservation. It was super easy. We received an email and a text with the information we would need to check in. We parked in the large parking lot and used one of the giant wagons to bring our things to the site. We were in P11 with a king bed and an electrical outlet (one outside the tent and one inside). The outside was well lit with soft lights around the awning edges. Our site was stunning! Breathtaking! There was a fire ring and picnic table. (Bundles of wood are sold onsite. Text the quantity taken and it is billed to your card on file.) On the deck were two chairs and a small table to enjoy the view of the valley below. Inside the canvas tent was a small dining table with seat benches, a king sized bed, an end of bed bench, two comfy chairs, nightstand, a lamp, and a box fan(which we were grateful for!) There was a dish washing station on the backside of the restrooms that had a sponge and a bottle of soap. This place is beautiful, serene, and just an all around wonderful place to visit. There is a trail that takes you up to an overlook that faces Akron-Peninsula Rd. A little further up that trail and onto National Park Service land is a small clearing with a pretty spectacular view as well. The owners are fabulous and shared some history on how this place came to be. We can’t wait to come back! Some things in the area to check out: the towpath (walking and biking), Szalay’s Farm (popular for their sweet corn), Everett Rd Covered Bridge trail, Blossom Music Center (concerts and Cleveland Orchestra performances), Deep Lock Quarry (hiking with views). Close to Merriman Valley with places to eat and a short drive from Montrose/Fairlawn and Cuyahoga Falls for even more...
Read moreWe stayed in the 4 person king cabin over labor day weekend and had a lovely stay! The cabin was great and the campgrounds super quiet - especially since they were 'sold out' over the holiday weekend! The one bedroom had plenty of room to put a pack n play for our baby (we brought) and has great blackout curtains on almost all the windows to encourage sleeping in after a late night! The bedrooms and by the front door have lots and lots of hooks which is great for hanging up all kinds of stuff to keep organized! My kids and I loved the back porch swing as it was perfect to relax on and enjoy the private forest area just behind the cabin. We spent a good portion of each day hiking in CVNP and then spent one night at a show at blossom (so close you can hear it very quietly! And who doesn't love being back to your bed after the show ends in just minutes!) A few things for other to note if you're heading over - 1. The overlook is beautiful (and has a picnic table!), but you may want to bring your hiking poles if you've got bad knees or are carrying kids on your back as it's a steep hill and 10-15 min walk (And definitely don't forget the bug spray). The pillows in the bedrooms are down feathers, so if you're allergic bring an alternative! (Comforter is not down) A nightlight in the bathroom might be a handy thing to bring if you have kids to split the difference between the bright bathroom lights and the darkness of the room. Yes there's a coffee maker, but don't forget your coffee and filters, on the things to bring note- may want to bring a pot if you're making pasta (they have pretty much everything else cooking...
