The water is nearby, the shelter definitely kept us dry, I saw some camp-able grounds around (tents were pitched). Very cool shelter. The picnic table is covered, the water is close, and the privy....well they have one. I don't think privy are ever really nice. Plenty of camping spots and I can't say with 100% positivity the shelter is water proof. It rained alot on our trip and we woke up dry. Definitely recommend sleeping here if you need a dry spot...
