RUDE STAFF! This campground is great, great access to the water, table and fire pit available at every site, woods and open areas, family friendly, clean bathrooms. I really would given five stars if it wasn't for the rude staff. There was an amazing park ranger who helped us find our camp site for the night. She drove around in a white van and seemed welcoming but there was a lady who worked the front office and drove around in a red Subaru hybrid truck who was very unprofessional. We camped for two nights, when paying we asked if there was a way to pay with a credit card. THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS, cash only. That is fine if someone would've told us when we booked the sites a week ago. Needless to say we informed her we would be right back with some cash. Within 20 minutes she flew up to our site, rolled down her window then said "so who is going to finally pay me my money?" We apologized and gathered up the fee, gave it to her, apologized again then she drove off without any thank you. We had another bad experience with her earlier in the day as well where she questioned us about if we really had a camp site or not. They didn't give us or anyone in our group anything to put in the window but she said "I don't see a tag so..." once we explained where our site was and who was in our group she hesitantly let us go to our camp site. Again beautiful site, great camping, but might...
Read moreThey moved the swimming area and made the old area a place to park vehicles with boat trailers. I have been here more than a dozen times this year because we live in Clinton and have yet to see but two vehicles with a boat trailer parked there. People have continued to swim in this area because there is plenty of parking. It is easy to get to the water. The water is cleaner and the bottom is sandy and easy to walk on. The new area has horrible parking. There are two big piles of sand and the only way to get to beach area is to walk around the sand through the grass and rocks or climb over the sand piles. Between the water and beach there are places with tree stumps sticking up(dangerous for small children) and there are lots of rocks and stumps on bottom. I will say the campgrounds and restrooms are great. They are clean and well maintained. The water in the Choctaw area is the best. And swimming is awesome in the old swimming area. Right now there are over 40 people enjoying the old area and from where I sit there maybe about 3 people over at...
Read moreVery impressed with this campground. I’ve been camping since I was a child and this is possibly my favorite spot I’ve ever been to.
It’s only around a five minute drive from town, so any unplanned trips to get something doesn’t become a huge ordeal. The entire time we were there we saw zero pieces of trash laying around. The site is huge with a few different camping experiences depending on what you’re looking for. We picked a spot in the pines and it was stunningly pretty. On the opposite side of the pines, is the lake. Which is large and offers pretty views. Worth walking over to at the very least. But very tempting to jump in a canoe for the day once you see it.
The number one best thing is the privacy. Each site is spread apart the most I’ve ever seen at a campsite. It allows for a very relaxing and private experience. Along with that, when you go onto the official recreational website, there’s a photo of every single spot you can check out before booking.
Huge fan and can’t...
