We were worried about this place reading reviews. You really can't use that as a sole decision for picking a hotel in an unfamiliar place. The resort is a beautiful place! Checking in the hotel was nice. The young man working here was very friendly and thorough explaining everything about our stay. The main room here is very cute. Loved the beachy/nautical decorations. Also a game room on the first floor with arcade and board games. Breakfast is a joke. If they provided more than just coffee, juices, cereals and pastries I would rate this place 5/5. There isn't alot of food options so I would recommend to go to Port Clinton for food (nice restaurants as well as familiar fast food). You can rent the hotel or the cottages. We rented the hotel. Luckily (but not so lucky at night) we got a room on the ground floor. So we had a front door leading to the volleyball courts, pools, cottages, and shores. Walls are thin so its easy to hear those around you, and especially above you. The rooms are very cute. Love the decor, and more importantly it's very clean. Lots of room to store clothes and there is a separate sink area by the bathroom that can hold all your supplies as you get ready for the day. Shower is great, high pressure and always enough hot water. There are two volleyball courts (one sand and one grass) and also tennis courts. Not sure if balls and rackets are provided. There are three pools but two of them are in the same fenced area with the pirate ship (family pool) while the third pool is a no splash pool with a hot tub. There is a small private beach so you can walk along the shore and get your feet wet. Plenty of benches and seats along the water for sitting, reading, or fishing. This is the perfect resort for those with families. Lots to do for kids and some to do for adults.

If you're looking for a fancy, upscale resort, this isn't it. But if you're looking for a clean, relaxing place to get away with friends or family, with amenities to keep little ones entertained, then you've found the perfect spot. There is a small but nice and clean private beach, a marina, three small pools and a hot tub -- the true value of this being that the kids can have their own pool and not disrupt adults, shuffleboard, tennis, fire pit, basketball -- plenty to do for the whole family. While we didn't partake, we did see they advertised a boat taxi over to Cedar Point. Location-wise, it wasn't ideal -- it's on the south side of the island so you don't get sunrise or sunset views, and it's about 5-10 minute drive to anything else in Marblehead, and even further to Port Clinton, Catawba or Sandusky. That said, the view from our room was still great -- it's definitely worth it to splurge for the balcony/lake view. The courtyard view would have been pretty depressing. The beds were comfortable and moderately clean -- I say moderately because the shower curtain was a little questionable. But it smelled clean, there were no bugs, and I didn't feel gross walking around barefoot. It was a little noisy, but we had the room right by the entrance door and across from the guest shower/laundry, so that could have been part of it. We just left the AC Fan run all night, and that drowned out most of the noise. Also, there was no fridge in our room. It ended up not being a problem on this trip, but definitely something worth noting! All in all, we'd go back, especially for a family trip with kids.

So the place was okay everything was clean at least. The beds were supposed to be queen size but were more narrow than a queen it seemed. It seemed like there was always somebody from the facility doing something always getting in your way. Wether it was in the elevator or in the hallway just constantly in the way. Had some excitement when the fire alarm went off at like 9:00 in the evening and had to wait outside till the fire department came to ok everything. Guess who didn't wait... The fire department said something to us about being in our room... Buuuut the front desk had told us it was fine so. The pools at this place were incredibly clean I was very impressed. They did have a lot of maintenance going on every morning there was a leaf blower and a lawn mower outside going to town really loud. There was a guy who insisted on coming into the pool area when there was a bunch of us in there with a leaf blower and blowing absolutely nothing outside of the pool because he must have to do it no matter what, even though he was annoying us all. They do not have blackout curtains in the room so it is very bright and being on the 4th floor we had sun first thing. Like 5 a.m.. Breakfast is a joke for what you pay to be here. Oh by the way a night that is supposed to cost $360 comes out to $413 after their taxes and fees.. Made arrangements to stay here kind of in a pinch but next time, there is better out there for the price. The fitted sheets weren't even able to fit on the bed. There were a lot of snakes and spiders down by the water also to be watching out for.

We feel so lucky to have found this place! My son was having a very small, casual wedding and looking for someplace near water and half-way between all of us since we all live in different states. Ohio was the halfway point, and we feel so blessed to have found South Beach Resort! From the moment we all checked in, the customer service was exemplary. We were all greeted (as we straggled in across the day) by smiles and warm welcomes. The hotel is clean and comfortable. The rooms are a bit dated (hence the 4-star rating) but CLEAN so what more could you ask? I did give a little bit of feedback to the hotel after we left of little things they could do to enhance the room (some new/better pillows would go a long way in the comfort department!), but overall we were very happy. My only disappointment was that I had reserved a queen room with a balcony with a bay view, but we ended up on the first floor with a patio (instead of an upper level with a balcony). At first I was a bit upset about this because I was really looking forward to being able to sit out on the balcony in the mornings and watch the water. That being said, the hotel staff bent over backwards unbeknownst to me that evening to try to shuffle things around to accommodate my wishes. Unfortunately by the time they freed up a room with a view, my family had already settled into the first floor room and would've disowned me if I made them move! lol! So we stayed on the first floor... so a warning if you book that type of room, you might end up with the view we got - a view of the beach volleyball pit and the water view blocked by the fun water pirate ship playground. That being said, we still really enjoyed our stay and it was a short walk out our patio door to one of the several gazebos on the pier to sit and enjoy the water view. But I REALLY appreciate that the staff was kind enough to try to move things around to accommodate me - this meant more than anything to me! My son got married at one of the gazebos, and it was absolutely beautiful backdrop to a wonderful event! Afterward we planned a casual dinner for our family, but it started to rain. Again, the staff came to our rescue and allowed us to move inside to their breakfast area. I am truly overwhelmed with feelings of gratitude to this amazing resort staff. They made the whole experience so much more than it might have been without their kindness! We will be back at some point for a...

The location was great and the property was gorgeous! They had a tennis court, a volleyball pit, 3 pools one with a giant pirate ship, and a gorgeous marina with small but pristine beach. There was gazebos on the dock, and my family and I sat and watched the sunset over Lake Eerie after a day at cedar point which was about 20 min away. Its late October and the resort was almost abandoned, the air was crisp and lovely and the trees where still gorgeous. We saw about 12 beautiful looking cabins. I really wish we had rented one of those instead of staying in the hotel. The lobby was lovely and our "Delux" room looked exactly like the pictures. I though the hotel smelled nice, I didn't notice any mustiness. The hallways were well lit and I liked the decor (country meets Lake eerie. Very homey yet still upscale). Unfortunately, a few minutes after checking in, I discovered a bunch of trash under the bed. The rest of the room was very clean. I let the front desk know that I wouldn't be picking up someone's trash on our "staycation" (we live about 2 hours away. This and cedar point was a impromptu treat for our six year old who did exceptional at school this week.). The man at the desk was very nice about it and we were only staying for one night so it wasn't a big deal. We paid a little extra for "deluxe" so we could get a room with a view. Despite the fact that the hotel "wasn't exactly busy" according to the man who checked us in, we were given a room where the view was the side of a building... we also had an upstairs "neighbor" in the "not busy" hotel, who sounded like thunder stamping around. It was crazy loud. I kept thinking of Harry Potter when his cousin kept running up and down the stairs above his room... thankfully my family are heavy sleepers (I'm not though) as this went on well past midnight. Im not sure why they didn't stagger the rooms?? Especially since the hotel appeared to be almost empty and there are other reviews about this that the owner has addressed so its not like they didn't know this was a problem. Overall though this was a lovely, family resort. It has a nostalgic feel and a great location. The staff were professional and friendly. We'll definitely return to stay in the cabins if we can! I heard they get...

I would have gave them a Zero if I could have! I am a person who gives the benefit of doubt but everything is true.... dirty/smelly/musty rooms... the "hot tub" is Luke warm at best... walls are paper thin a man woke me up this morning when he has just talking on his phone in the room next to us... I could repeat his whole conversation.... I thought the staff was ok until I had to deal with them... they gave us a check in paper when we checked and on the back of this check on paper stated somethings about the hotel pools, ice machine ect.. and that they had some breakfast, lunch, and dinner with times! Sooo I just went down there about dinner time to just check it out.... so I'm trying to check it out and this women asked me what I was doing? (Because awkwardly enough you have to go behind their desks to get to this room...) And I say I'm just looking for the food! She asks what food? Ummmm... the food that was on my check in paper! She says what paper?.... (unbelievable but true) I had to go back to the room to show her... I bring it back (she sees that it says exactly what i said) and she says no...? I'm like what do you mean no? She says.... "this is printed on old paper (like i should know this) and we have no restaurant we only serve breakfast...." know there is no restaurant I can see... like I can read what it says on this paper with times of when it is to be opened! All I needed was I'm sorry for the mistake and I would not thought so bad of this place but that was the last straw! She was rude and did not care about me, my family, or my stay! It is very very expensive here and you don't get what you pay for.... they could at least be nice... but they are not!! Would never ever come back.... thank you rude lady!! If you keep treating people like how you did I don't know why anyone would come back... however I would understand why you are unemployed and the "resort" is closed!...
