BED BUG ALERT!! My wife & I stayed here in the Tennessee Waltz room from Friday August 11-16. The views are spectacular. The staff at the reception desk, dining room & marina are very pleasant. The breakfast buffet was appreciated but could use more variety as they serve the same thing every morning. Our last day here, hair found in our food so that ended breakfast promptly for us. Seems like the Health Dept would require hair nets to be worn. The scenic sunset boat ride was awesome & the boat captain so informative but the boat left too early for any sunset!! Upon entering the reception area you can’t help but notice the dirty leather torn up couch sitting there! First impressions on any level stick with you! As you look around one can clearly see this place badly needs some TLC. The 71 yr old cowboy hat owner has clearly let this place run down into the ground. Outdoor furniture on both lower deck & balconies are dirty. Holes in the wooden decking are covered over with furniture, a safety issue. Outside porches & railings full of cobwebs & not clean. Furniture in the rooms are worn out. Our room had a 2 sink vanity but could only use one because the water pressure is but a trickle. Shower had poor water pressure. BUT.... the most important issue here is that they have BED BUGS !!!! We noticed on day we checked out that my legs were covered with bites. Thought at first maybe spider. The bites didn’t seem to be getting better. So Monday after we got back I called a doctor & contacted a pest control consultant. Appointment was Tuesday. Doctor confirmed they were in fact bed bug bites. Wife sick needing care Wednesday so called the owner today. Kindly wanted him to know so he could take appropriate measures. He immediately said rudely , “ why did you wait this long to call ? You’ll need to talk to my attorney I need your attorneys number!” We don’t have bed bugs he said!! What kind of response is this? No reason to be so rude & defensive!! We just wanted to inform him so corrective measures could be made so someone else isn’t going to go through what we are!! Will never stay here again & hope everyone reads this review before making your own decision about...
Read moreI reserved a jet ski and pontoon boat with Mountain Harbor Inn a month in advance and paid half in advance for the reservation. The staff was friendly and helpful when I wanted to change the time of my reservation from 12pm to 2pm.
When I arrived at the office about 20 minutes early, I signed all the paperwork and paid the other half. However, when I got to the dock, my pontoon boat was ready but I was informed that there weren't any jet skis available because they had all been rented. I politely complained that I had reserved the jet ski and that they shouldn't have rented it out since I had already paid for it. The guy shrugged...
After further prodding, one of the members of my group suggested that they let us use a free tube to pull behind the boat while we wait for a jet ski (there were dozens of tubes laying around). After some pushing, they agreed.
I also talked to the lady in the office about a refund for the time we lost on the jet ski, and she also agreed that it was fair. However, there was an accident on the lake that day that kept them from processing it that day. She agreed to call me in a couple of days to verify the refund.
I didn't get a call so I called back a few days later. She said that she would have to talk to her boss, but that they would probably refund me an hour of time (I missed 1hr 20min waiting on the jet ski). I explained that I didn't find that fair, but she wouldn't concede. Finally I said that I would report the incident to the better business bureau if I didn't get a refund for the full 1hr 20min. She said that she would take it up with her boss and hung up on me.
About an hour later, she called me and sharply said that they would refund the whole time and hung up the phone.
Overall, I had a good time and the boats were nice. However, I feel that the staff could have been more accommodating and I don't think that I should have had to insist that they do the right thing. I never raised my voice or got ugly in any way. I may have been a little stern at times,...
Read moreMy family and I (seven people total) rented a pontoon to spend six hours on the lake from Mountain Harbor at the recommendation of a friend. We will not be back. And we will not be recommending them to anyone else.
First, the place is hard to locate from the road due to lack of signage. And once you do realize that the "marina" is in the same place as the inn, there's no indication that you can't park there. Instead, after you do park, the unfriendly staff is all too eager to let you know you'll be towed unless you move to an off-site parking space and ride the shuttle back.
Secondly, the unfriendly staff. From the moment we walked into the boat office we were treated to a lot of eye-rolling, and sarcastic, curt answers to questions. From the sour-faced woman running the office (who took a little too much pleasure in telling us that a map of the lake would cost extra.... what??) to the man with "Owner/Opperator" embroidered on his polo who warned us not to "touch a boat without paperwork".... it was made clear that we were little more than an annoyance.
Finally, but by no means least importantly, the hardware we rented was sub-par in every way. We were put on a ten person boat with a 60 hp motor, and charged extra for a tube. There was not NEARLY enough power to get any kind of speed to make tubing fun. The trim for said motor was either broken or disabled. The radio/cd player (one of the selling points in their ads) was - you guessed it - broken.
Beginning to end, this was the worst of three or four boat rental experiences we've ever had. And not one we'll be repeating. Honestly, most of our technical issues could have been overcome by any amount of effort from the staff, but in the end, they only compounded our frustrations and ensured that we will be telling anyone who will listen not to...
