This was my second stay at this resort. My first stay was about 5 years ago ice fishing. The place was great, fishing was awesome, food was good, night life was even better! My second stay, not even close to the same. I called very last minute looking for a place to stay and they had rooms and cabins available so I booked it, I was excited to get there.

When I got there at 5:30 in the afternoon on a Thursday (staying for 3 nights) there was no one there, I thought that was weird for a resort... I found a note taped to the wall with my name on it and directions on everything. The directions took me right to my room. Lucky the A/C worked good in my room because it was not in the resort and it kinda smelled. The rooms were ok, clean but very basic but the water smelled so bad in the bathroom. When showering or good lord you brush your teeth you wanted to gag at the smell of the water. This was not good being I had my wife with, we got through the next couple days but it was tuff.

The outside of the resort is really looking run down and not well mantentined. The kitchen area was out of service, they were working on it and the bar was only open Friday and Saturday night. Nothing like I remember from 5 years ago.

We did fish on one of their charter boats on Friday, this is when we found out the bank has stepped in on the resort and they have taken over? I guess that started to answer alot of questions we had about the place. However, back to the fishing, it was the best it has ever been for me up there. We caught our limits of fish in just a few hours. That was the best part of the whole stay. However just like the resort, there boats are run down and not every thing was working correct. The captin did clean all our fish and did a good job at that which was nice.

We found ourselves spending all our free time at other places when up there. Didn't spend anytime free around the resort.

At check out on Sunday morning, that was a whole another problem. At 8am in the morning of check out there was no one there, it was just like the place was closed up! This is a resort, someone should be around almost all the time. I had a long drive ahead of me and wanted to get out of there. I hung around because they had our fish in a freezer somewere and i wanted them. At 9:10am a guy showed up and got us checked out finally. Need less to say, I will not go back. This is too bad because this was a really fun resort 5 years ago. It all made sense to me why they had so many open rooms...

This place is bad. There is just no way around it. ||Attended with family for a fishing trip with day ice houses and cabin accommodations.||Service - Mostly poor service to straight-up rude, both in the front office and out on the ice. Dirty looks when bringing fish in to be cleaned. One of the younger workers out on the ice blamed us for our holes freezing over in the shack first thing in the morning. He suggested it was our fault for not leaving the heat on a certain setting. There is no guidance on what temp to leave the heat on to avoid freeze over, and we weren't told this was our responsibility until after it happened. Further, the night before the holes froze over we were specifically told that people would be checking the house after we left for the night to do things like take out the trash. That would have been a great opportunity for them to set the heat to the proper setting. It was clear that no one visited the ice house after we left for the night because not only were the holes froze over, but they never took the day's trash. Front desk service was cold and at times just straight up rude.||Accommodations/cleanliness - There were four walls, a roof, running water, and heat. Other than that, the place was borderline dumpy. I'll just write a few words here and let the pictures do the talking. Dirty. Mouse feces in beds and cookware cabinets. Broken handles. Stains. Holes in doors. Stained furniture. Destroyed/peeling walls.||I understand it's been hard times the last few years, but what plagues this place is way beyond that. ||Avoid Wigwam Resort. There are plenty of other options...

I have been staying there with a large group of friends for several years. Several of our guys have been our group have been coming for over a decade. Fishing is always good. With that being said, our group will be booking at one of the neighboring resorts moving forward. It has been obvious that the place lacks in upkeep as well as just basic maintenance. For 2 years in a row our guys have had rodent droppings in our bedding. Last year the owners were right on it, promptly changing our bedding. This year they pretty much blew off one of our guys. Instead, they focused that he had not paid at check in, we have always paid at check out. Simple solution he got his card out and paid. Immediately he asked what about the rodent problem. He was told that mice are a common occurrence. I' m sorry but failing to address a rodent issue is beyond acceptable, toss in horrible customer service and you have a recipe for a negative review on Trip Advisor. Some other issues include electrical code violations in the cleaning house as well as the piers. All of these examples are cheap easy fixes. The fact that management could give rip shows us that they really don't appreciate the Five grand we spent there. We didn't try the restaurant, we figured if they maintain that the same way they do the accommodations, why risk it. We all know that the last few years have been tough on resort owners. However, customer service is free. Rude people at the front desk are the face of your business also...

Ever dreamed of owning a classic Minnesota resort? Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods—one of the Midwest’s premier walleye fishing destinations—is officially for sale for just over $2.5 million. This 7.5-acre property features 12 updated cabins, a 14-room lodge, a 26-site campground, and even three bars and a full-service restaurant that hosts live music and community events. Established in 1917, Wigwam has been welcoming generations of anglers and families from across the Midwest. Owner Mark Armstrong has poured years of work and upgrades into the property—from renovated cabins and new roofing to modern kitchen equipment—keeping the “mom-and-pop” spirit alive while other resorts have gone corporate. Whether you’re a lifelong fisherman, a hospitality entrepreneur, or just someone who dreams of living lakeside, this property represents a rare chance to carry on a true Minnesota tradition. Would you take the leap and own a piece of Minnesota history? 🏕️👇 #darinbjerknes #minnesotarealestate #lakeofthewoods #minnesotacabins #resortforsale

We just stayed here for two days and it's the worst I've ever been treated by anyone, anywhere! We stepped outside for a smoke at 11pm n our door was locked n our dog was inside. We went to the lodge which was closed of course so hubby tried to get in a window. Unfortunately it broke. I got the door open n then management came knocking on the door n just started drilling me about the window which I said we would gladly pay for. Not good enuf for her, she calls the owners has them bad mouthing us at 11:30 at night making me feel like a criminal! When I asked what we were supposed to do all I got was its $200. For this $200. Charge for that. The following day the owner comes over n rips on me again. Terrible customer service! I was sick about paying someone all that money to be treated like that. Then when we got home I seen they took 200. More for the broken pos window, which we said we'd pay for. Accidents happen thats what you should have insurance for! I would never recommend anyone to stay here unless your up for a mental challenge.

We booked at this resort for our annual fishing trip. I didn't expect much as accommodation up north I general are shelter more than anything else. We stayed in The fireside cabin. It was very clean. AC was great. In short I was surprised. It was spendy but we also got 2 days of guided fishing with lodging. Which in my opinion made it a fair price. Our charter captain Jim out us on fish both days and we caught trophy fish and eaters. We will be coming back. Overall the experience was a great one. Property was well kept, nice views, great staff. Another shout out to Jim- he was great!!
