This place can be hit or miss. Sites on the backside are better then those on the front but not all of them are great for larger trailers and some you have to walk a short distance to the eating area/fire pit. In some cases if tent camping you will be packing it a small distance from your car.
Generally it is clean although there is always a few who leave their trash behind or half burn their trash in the fire. Two pit toilets which I've always found fully stocked. They are usually clean but the flies do come in the summer.
If you are an early weekday camper you might have the place to yourself. Weekends can be very busy with some people who feel responsible for providing all campers with DJ services.
This is the highest of "The Lakes" camps as the gravel starts at the entrance thus it is a couple miles up from the last lake. On the other hand it probably has the best tree cover of all the campsites.

Read moreIt has been 2 years since we last stayed at this campground which we have enjoyed over the past several years. This 4th of July weekend was a complete madhouse with almost no enforcement. The general atmosphere is not one of enjoying the peace and quiet of the outdoors but giant family gatherings with complete disregard for fellow campers and the campground itself. With the campground at almost double capacity the two pit toilets were a disgusting mess. It's was so loud (music, non stop barking dogs and screaming kids). The sheriff had to come up because someone brandished a gun during some kerfuffle over a stolen campsite.
Overall it's a beautiful campground and it used to be a pleasant positive experience but not anymore (at least not on the busier weekends). Camp...
Read moreWent to check out this campground, the 8 or so dispersement campgrounds on the way and the 3-4 lakes around there that are supposedly stocked with fish. Ok. The dispersement campgrounds on the way and this campground is very primitive. The dispersement campgrounds are discovery pass required? Whatever that is and this campground is $8 per night. This campground is dirty and the bathrooms are full of trash and no toilet paper Honestly the vibe is uncared for. The lakes had very few people fishing but no catching. The lakes are green, not something enticing, and not swimmable.
Camp Whooten is entry by reservation only, lame. The Tuccannon river is nice though. Blind Gulch road is treacherous, go the long way from Pomeroy, it's safer and worth the extra 40...
