We noticed during one of our frequent vists to Lake Amistad that American Campground near Del Rio, Texas had recently added a half-dozen new cabins to their offerings. We called several weeks ahead and reserved a cabin, asking specifically if it was air conditioned and would it be comfortable since we were coming in August and knew temperatures would exceed 100 degrees daily. We checked in - advance payment for 2 nights and a key deposit were required. The manager stated she had turned on the AC. After 3 hours, it was still no cooler inside than outside - 98 degrees (tiny 110v window unit). I told the manager we could not stay as we would not be able to sleep in 95+ temperatures. No other cabin was offered - she said that was the coolest cabin they had. She refused to refund even one night, saying "You signed a paper!!!" Arrived after the office was closed but had no issues checking in using the forms provided at the office. Restrooms and showers were clean with good water pressure and hot water. The kitchen was also a very nice touch! We did dishes in the kitchen and re-froze our ice packs so they could go back in the cooler the next day. You do get some muffled noise from the road, but not enough to wake you in the night. Our only recommendation to management would be to add some additional lighting in the showers themselves. Somewhat dark when showering at night. We would...

As someone working in the oil field, finding a good place to stay is tough. I was so glad to find American Campground in Del Rio, TX. I stayed in one of their fully furnished cabins, which felt like a true home away from home. The cabin was perfect, with a full kitchen, comfortable bed, and fast Wi-Fi. Beyond the great cabins, the amenities are a huge plus. The pool with a cabana, swings, and pool bar was a fantastic way to relax after a long day. The staff is incredibly welcoming, and the rates are great. This is easily the best campground I've ever stayed at and a perfect place for anyone working or traveling in the area. Also...
