Easter weekend 4/18/25 and it's 11:30 pm and we're on the backside and away from the main camping area. Lots of party goers and people noise, speeders not obeying the 15 mph so they're kicking up dust. So sad really because we expected better of the locals. We stayed at Governor's two years ago and it was windy but relatively quiet. We will not be returning to this particular campground on our travels unless it's inclement weather when rule breakers are likely to stay away. Clean pit toilet on the backside at tent campers only area. Friendly engagement with a male and a female NPS Park ranger. Read moreSmooth gravel road in. Loop road, good for any size rig. $6/night, $3 with senior/access pass. Self check-in station with info on the area. Only a handful of other campers here currently. Tent and RV camping are separated but plenty of spots for both. Beautiful desert plants and neat walking paths to explore. Sign says bear, mountain lion, javalina, etc. So be aware. Fairly quiet here with some light highway noise/oil drilling. There are a few small (& clean) bathrooms with pit toilets. No hookups, no water. Cool planes flying nearby & camp has a memorial area for a plane crash. Walked a long way down to the water, what a hike! Also checked out the boat ramp...
Read moreOn the Amistad Reservoir but you can't even see it. Too bad! On an " unmarked road" something should be done about this. I had to make a 911 call in the middle of the night 3 AM when a incoherent young man and his female companion wanted me to help them with their stuck car.
Jesus might have helped them; I didn't get out bed or turn on the light; I called 911. He was in jail when I called the sheriff's office the next morning.
