This was our first and last trip to poverty point state park cabins. Upon arrival we were told our cabin was not ready because housekeeping was not finished yet. We arrived at the stated check in time of 3:00 P.M. and had to wait 30 minutes for them to finish. Also our air conditioner was apparently turned off by the previous guests and it was 78 degrees in our cabin in 90-100 degree weather in Louisiana. It took 7 hours to cool down to 74 degrees. Upon entering the cabin we could clearly see that housekeeping needs to be fired. The microwave and stove were both sprayed with something but never actually wiped down. The microwave was damaged and the stove had a burner that smelled when cooked on. The furnished kitchen did not have all the essentials needed for cooking like a cookie sheet and bowls that are microwaveable. The bathroom shower had a damaged shower head and it leaked badly. This cabin had obviously not been dusted or cleaned properly in a while. The blinds and lamps we're covered in dust. The outside of the cabin was also a problem. Several boards on our deck we're loose or rotten and the handrails are not steady at all. We paid almost $400 to stay for two days it was NOT worth it. Pick a different park. I suggest Lake Darbonne the cabins there are beautiful and...
Read moreWhen dealing with Regina and Bruce in the office…good luck getting a straight answer that doesn’t tap dance around the truth. When we booked this site, we did with the knowledge that the splash pad would be available for 2 children that were traveling with us. WE SPOKE WITH REGINA WHEN WE BOOKED IT…..she knew what we wanted and put us on a site right next to the splash pad. We arrive and no splash pad!!!! Called the office and was informed that “oh they have maintenance to do on it, it will definitely be opened in the morning.” NOPE!!!! The same “maintenance” that was being done the day before, was still happening. PRESSURE WASHING!!!! We called Bruce, the manager, and he assured us that the pad would be available today….again a big lie. Once we saw the “workers”….and I use that term loosely….we called and were informed that the pad was NOT available today because “weather hindered them yesterday”. That’s funny….when we arrived it was sunny with no rain…..and the “workers” are sitting under a tree smoking. Louisiana tax dollars hard at work!!!! So….if you enjoy disappointing small children, then yes, bring your...
Read moreWe spent 4 days at Poverty Point Resevior State Park. The staff was excellent. The cabin has all basic necessities (towels, linens, and cookware).
The kitchen had all the gadgets you need such as a toaster, can opener, microwave and coffee maker (no filters though). If you're looking to cook like we known to do, you'll have to bring your own (magnalites, cast iron pots, rice cookers, crockpots, etc).
We rented cabin 1. It's an over water cabin. The cabin itself was clean, but could use some deep, deep cleaning. The furniture was a little uncomfortable, especially the double bed. The best seat was the rocking chair on the deck.
The path from parking to the cabin is in need of work. Many loose boards and railings.
The wifi is nonexistent at the cabin. I can't speak for any other part of the park because we didn't try to connect anywhere else. So make sure you have your own data plan, hotspots, etc.
The fishing was great which is part of what we went for.
Overall it was a great experience. It was very relaxing and quiet. Quite a few food options nearby if you don't want to cook.
It's a great experience I...
