We stayed here’s for 4 days, 3 nights. We arrived Sunday afternoon around 1:50/2:00pm, check in was not till 3. I had called the morning of to see about getting in early, and they asked me to call back later to see if the room had been cleaned yet. I called when we were about 20 minutes out, but they still didn’t have a clean one yet. Not a big deal, there’s plenty to do in DSM. I had to meet up with my husband though, so we met at the hotel, we went in the play in the arcade until we could check in. When we got in the house, they were able to get us into a room right away.
I have 3 kids as well. There was no extra person charge at all, or an early check in fee. Which was awesome! They managed to get us a room literally right across from the pool, which was super convenient.
This hotel is owned by the trucking company next door, TMC. There is a lot of truckers that stop there for the night before taking off again.
So here’s what you’ll want to know-
The rooms are nice and roomy, they have a good lay out. The room we booked I thought said was a double queen bed, the beds were just plain doubles. The windows can open on the first floor, and screens are easily removable. There is a caution on the windows to make sure to keep children from climbing out of them. Our room have a mini fridge, and a microwave as well. Beds where very comfortable, and the blankets where nice as well.
The pool- The pool is heated, so it was very comfortable to swim in! It goes all the way to 9 feet deep from 3ft deep. Fairly big so plenty of room to spread out from people if others were in it. It’s open from 7am-11pm and the last hour is for adults only. Kids can be in it as well, as long as the adults in the pool room with them.
The hot tub- absolutely fantastic. Not overly hot, but not cold. Definitely warmer than the pool. Bubbles were great, it does burn your eyes a little if your oooking into the tub while sitting in it. But nothing awful. No jets on the sides, they come from the bottom.
The sauna- Sauna was nice, but very dry. It is a dry sauna, so no water is poured on the heat to keep it humid.
Breakfast- I have NEVER seen so many options for breakfast. You could pick from biscuits and gravy, pancakes, French toast, waffles, bagels, there was fruit options, yogurt, coffee, apple and orange juice, skim and 2% milk as well.
The gift shop- so super awesome. They do have a gift shop for TMC gear as well as a separate section with pizzas and pizza makers, burritos, Chinese, candy, drinks, ice cream, microwaveable meals, etc. you can also find paper plates, silverware, salt and pepper packets etc. in this area. It is not up charged and is VERY affordable. We bought 2 frozen pizzas on our last night and it’s was only $15.
There’s many little areas to gather in aside from your room, such as two little garden areas with rooms connected to them to enjoy the outdoors.
Location- You can expect to drive 10-20 minutes if you plan on doing anything in DSM because this hotel is outside of town by the airport.
Overall this was one of the best stays I’ve had in a hotel. They were quick to assist in anything you needed and friendly! We will absolutely...
Read moreWe stayed here two separate nights on a road trip we took and both nights were very nice. The pool area is large and the pool goes to 9 feet deep which, as an adult, makes swimming more enjoyable. There's also a hot tub, but we didn't use it either time. There was also a dry sauna that we didn't use, but maybe next time! We stayed in rooms with two queen beds, one TV, a mini fridge and a microwave. This was very convenient because we brought our own food for the trip, so being able to store and make our own food helped save us money. I also liked that the room not only had a full bathroom, meaning it had a tub/shower combo (I wish hotels would stop doing just a shower, especially when you have children travelling with you), but there was also another sink outside of the bathroom that we could use when the bathroom was occupied. Two sinks in a hotel room is a very nice amenity when travelling as a family. There were lots of plugins in our room as well to charge our phones and tablets. They also have a 24 hour snack shop at the front desk where they carried bottled drinks of all kinds, snacks and frozen pizzas. The hotel also has a workout room, entertainment room (couches, TV, two pool tables, some video games), and nice outdoor seating. There was a room to purchase what looked like shirts, jackets, etc for some sort of racing group. It would've been nice if they had actual souvenirs to purchase. Like magnets or keychains that said "Iowa" or "Des Moines" on them. The staff were very nice and friendly and helpful. They have a very good breakfast buffet with 3 cereal options, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, make your own waffles, biscuits and gravy, coffee, juice, and donuts and fruit. Everything was very good! The only takeaway I have from staying here is, if you are staying on the first floor, do NOT stay in rooms 122 through 125. They are directly across from the breakfast room and you can here everything from set up (which seems to start around 430-5 am) and that was bothersome. So for our second night I asked for a corner room away from there and it was much, much quieter. I also liked that the hotel was a little outside of Des Moines which made for a quieter place and some pretty scenery. 10/10 would...
Read moreWe enjoyed our stay at this fine, upscale location. The rooms were ultra clean, the property was in excellent shape and the staff was very courteous and helpful. When we checked in, it was a little early and our room wasn't quite ready so the team member showed us the lounge and game room and we relaxed while the room was prepared. The breakfast was awesome! First time I had ever seen a pancake machine in a motel!!! I've seen waffle irons, but never pancakes.
There were two issues with the room. One could be a potential danger to guests staying at this facility. Neither detracted from my over all view of this fine establishment. One and most important was the bath tub/shower had no grip on the floor of the tub. I nearly slipped and fell both times I showered. I'm a big man and taking a bath is not an option. I might suggest this be remedied for future guests. The other was the beds were very hard and mildly uncomfortable.
On the whole, our stay was splendid. Back in the late 1990's and early 2000's, I used to be a mystery shopper. One of the places our company tested were Budgetel Inns which became Baymont Inn early in the 2000's. This location was, BY FAR, the best Baymont/Budgetel Inn I've ever had the opportunity to stay. Prior to this one, the best was in Appleton, Wisconsin. This is a very classy motel with a budget conscious price.
