We stayed here in June 2017. The campground is quiet and clean and reasonably priced. Small rabbits were hopping all over the place. The bathrooms are clean and the shower pressure and temperature were good. There is a pool, with oddly blue water, but we enjoyed paddling around after a long day of driving. Staff was friendly and helpful. If you have time, drive over to Fort Fetterman, one of the many forts dotting Wyoming. They have a display telling a little about the history of the fort and other like it in the region. The Army was tasked with keeping the natives on reservations after the end of the Civil War. The Transcontinental Railroad was completed in 1869. General Custer brought surveyors into the Black Hills, in violation of the treaty in which the land had been deeded to the Lakota. They "discovered" gold, and the rush was on. The presence of more and more forts and soldiers, and the coming of more settlers brought tensions to a head at the Little Bighorn in 1876. If you visit Fort Fetterman, hike up the hill to the Pioneer Cemetery and read the names of soldiers and citizens interred there, including Frank Peacock. People who moved into the new territories were adventurous people looking for opportunity. Frank and his brother Corbert were from Lancaster England. They operated a general store in the town near the fort. Corbert left Wyoming shortly after Frank was shot and killed, and continued west. In Australia and New Zealand he and his other brother Walter developed and sold disc plows. They settled in Hawaii in time for the growth of the sugar industry, and Walter built the original Moana Hotel on Waikiki. They crossed the oceans during the great age of steamships, and they traveled across the US by train and...
Read moreRating: 4/5 from a Journey KOA perspective ||||Overall: We stayed 1 night in September 2021 with a 37ft Class A with a tow vehicle. Nice KOA Journey with large RV spots. Perfect for a 1 night stop if you are traveling ||through the area. ||||Campsite/Campground: The campground was all gravel with plenty of space to maneuver. Some small “grass” squares which I believe are mainly for dog use. The sites have no or minimal shade, but that is the landscape in the area so no surprise. We appreciated the smaller garbage containers spaced out every few sites. Made it easier than one big dumpster somewhere in the campground.||||Hookups: We had 50A and full hookups – all worked well. The sewer hookup was a bit close to the neighbor’s picnic table (see picture), so not great but we didn’t sit outside at all due to the heat in August. ||||Amenities: We used the mini golf course ($2pp I believe) which was fun for the kids. Nothing special and older course, but the kids didn’t care! Lots of bunnies for the kids to watch and chase. It was something to do while out in the middle of nowhere! We didn’t use the pool or playground but both were open for use.||||Service/Staff: What a KOA Journey lack in amenities was made up for at the Douglas KOA with service! The team at check-in was great – they called us ahead of our arrival to confirm RV length, escorted us via golf cart to our site, and worked out a small refund due to a computer issue. Great staff at this place. ||||Other: The back of the campground was for full time or seasonal sites along with a mobile home park. The landscape in this area is very flat, dry and tree-less, so don’t expect much in terms of shade or...
Read moreCampground was mostly clean. Dumpster was overflowing on the front side and people didn't realize it opened in the back, and a $20 fine if you use the bins at the site. (Perhaps change in management or services?) Restrooms are closed 10am-12pm , so right at the 11am checkout which is very inconvenient if you clean your black tank...then have nowhere to go to the restroom. Would recommend they close them 11:15am -1:15pm instead. And 2 hours for cleaning is excessive when you have one person cleaning and close both the male and female sides. And they dont honor the hours, as my mother tried to use it at 9am and they had the cleaning sign up already...when I tried at 10:30am it was still up and I asked when it would be open and the woman said, uh, well around noon like the sign says. Hours for the office/store are not listed online or at the site and we couldn't get what I consider a basic -milk. And we aren't exactly close to stores. I also wanted to buy a bottle of water at 10:30am on a Saturday... no staff in sight and door locked with the sign saying they are back at 8am...so either incorrect or highly unavailable. I've stayed at maybe 8-10 KOAs and have never experienced this lack of services/availability. Very bare bones staffing. The pool wad also locked Saturday afternoon, the tennis court serves as basketball too and is growing weeds, new playground structure is nice, but residential and the children jumping and pounding makes me think it will become dangerous, plus they built it so the slide is too close to the edge, and mini-golf is cute. Fine for a one night stay, but this is not a...
