My wife and I just got married at this venue this weekend. I will say the place is absolutely beautiful. But the true issues with this place aren’t in the looks or the scenery, it’s the owners. The entire wedding day the owner continually interrupted my wife to ask little questions about how things were being set up, who was sleeping in what room, etc. Prior to the wedding we were asked to send the owner an email with all of this information but they also wanted us to include every single persons phone number, email, and home address. For me I thought that was a little much but we cooperated and provided the information. Now in the town of Dublin they have a noise ordanince at 11pm so our music shut down at 1030, and this is when the real problems begin. We still had a handful of our guest hanging out and enjoying our special day when frank the owner approached me and begins to get irritated with me that all of our guest haven’t left yet because it was almost 11pm. Let’s understand something here in the contract we had the property from Friday afternoon until Sunday at noon. There is nothing against anything in the contract that said we couldn’t have our wedding guest hang out as long as we wanted. So then frank becomes an extremely rude person because of this, he started to turn all of the porch and outside lights off to signal everyone to get out. Well lots of people took Uber from the hotel to the venue and in Dublin Virginia you are lucky to have one Uber driver, so 20 different people needing a ride and one Uber I think you can do the math and understand it takes TIME. Then frank approaches me again and threatened to call the cops because nobody was leaving. I mean seriously who the hell would be so rude to do that to someone. Nobody was being reckless or doing anything wrong. Literally just hanging out drinking beer and enjoying the night. Next we get to Franks mother who I would say is somewhere in her 70s. So just to let you know this is where frank learned all of his skills of being invasive and not respecting other people. So Franks mom actually stays in a room in the basement of the manor right across the hall from a room for your guest. So during the reception she started to walk around and tell people they were drinking too much and tried to take away the alcohol that I purchased for my guest. I never asked for her help on that, let alone nobody got out of hand or did anything terrible. Next we get to our wedding cake. A friend of ours designs specialty cakes and made one for our wedding. Well later that night we took the cake into the basement of the house to eventually take it upstairs to the fridge. Well here comes Franks mother out of nowhere who proceeds to put her hands all over the cake because she doesn’t know what it is. I mean literally she rubbed this bad boy down, aka making it uneatable. Then when one of my groomsmen tried to take the cake away from her guard to take it upstairs to the fridge she told him he wasn’t allowed to touch it or go upstairs in the manor. This groomsmen was staying in the venue the entire weekend, idk where this new rule came from, so then my groomsmen came to get me to help add one more distraction from my wedding day. Now Franks mother still wasn’t done, as I finally scattered around to find some sober drivers since the one Uber driver couldn’t move at the pace frank wanted, his mother began to lock all of the doors to the manor with me and all of my guest still outside. So on my wedding night I get locked out of the house that I purchased the use of for the weekend. Nowhere in the contract does it talk about locking the guest out becuase they are up past FRANKS MOTHERS BEDTIME. Thankfully one of my guest was inside the house and came to save the day eventually.

So overall I would warn anybody who looks at this venue to not be fooled, the owners are truly invasive, rude, don’t care about what the guest want. If you plan to not have alcohol and end your event by 10pm on the...

The owner Frank is the most disrespectful “business owner” I have ever had to deal with in my life. Upon arriving to the home I received a text from him letting me know he would be out of town for his mother’s memorial, God rest her soul. Funny thing about Frank is that he picks and chooses when he wants to run this place like a hotel, meaning procedure and guidelines. There was no check in check out. This comes into play later on. Our bathroom was cleaned twice; once without asking and another time with asking. Frank told me later on over the phone that whatever we need we need to ask about everything. Last time I checked I didn’t know that in the business of customer service the customer had to ask for the bare minimum to be completed, such as making the bed or taking out trash. The ladies keeping the inn came and went as they pleased so there was no telling when I could speak with them on things I needed. According to Frank if I needed something I was to call their personal phone number… ridiculous. The place also needs some serious renovations and cleaning. I paid for three night which upon the morning of the third day in decided I did not want to stay. I was not able to vacate because I called that wonderful cell phone number to get in contact with one of the ladies which she did not answer. I did not remove my things from my room because then I would not have somewhere to stay for the evening and I was at church that morning ( I was in Dublin for a church conference). Later on after church in the early afternoon I went and collected my belongings. I reached out to Frank regarding a refund since I did not stay the last night.

The phone call was anything but professional. He took this opportunity to laugh in my face and make a mockery of the conversation. He tried to explained that the home is not a hotel but if I wanted my money back for the last day I should have vacated prior to 11am. Those are hotel guidelines, which apparently according to Frank this place is not a hotel! In the midst of him and I having this conversation he is taking brief intermissions to have conversation with Christy (one of the women who helps to keep the home). I would also like to add that according to Frank the bathroom I was using was only supposed to be used by myself and the person staying in my room with me, but there were in fact other people utilizing the toilet and shower in that restroom. I for the life of me wish I had read the bad reviews about this place before booking because I would have made other lodging arrangements. Not to mention one of the nights we came back from church around 10pm the back door was unlocked and we were the only ones in the house. We asked Christy about it the next morning just for her to tell us that the back door cannot be accessed from the outside with is being unlocked like that was supposed to be sometime of consolation. Please get and Airbnb or stay at a REAL HOTEL rather than staying at this unprofessional establishment.

Frank please save your sarcastic response that you so graciously gave to those that also gave you a poor review. Honestly you would be wasting your time replying. I hope God works on that unkind and spiteful...

So we live locally in the area of the manor, and my daughter has always been enamored with the place when we drive by. Texted Frank and managed to book a night where we were the only girls in the house. Brought my mom, myself, and my daughter (she is 9) and we had a silly night of exploring the beauty of the manor, playing in the spacious gardens/grounds, and reading about the history of the place. Breakfast in the morning was delicious with Christy in the kitchen, along with chatting with Frank about the history of the place, his family, and memories of restoring the place with his mom. Three levels of rooms, common spaces, and outdoor seating areas, the manor can definitely house large groups, and this place would be a lot of fun with a large family get together. Two pianos to choose from, if you are musical, both nicely in tune may I add as well 😊. Keep in mind this is a historical building, built in the 1800's, so the floors creak, bugs always find their way in through doors and windows that don't seal as well, and sometimes the plumbing is a little quirky, but that was a part of the fun and charm for our visit. If these walls could talk was what my mom and I kept saying all evening. Frank and his wife have poured a lot of love into the place along side his mom and family, and it...

Beautiful home with plenty of history and character! From the rippled glass windows, antique hardwood floors, grand staircases, to the amazingly wide door frames, this place is perfectly restored without losing its original charm! A big thanks to this family for saving their ancestral home from being sold off and then renovating it so it could be shared with the rest of us! Loved staying in the Porterfield Suite for our Halloween Anniversary. It was spacious, clean, and cozy. The King size bed was very comfy! The innkeeper Frank was friendly and available for anything we needed. So sad to be checking out in a few hours but we will be back again!
