Easy to find. Just turn by the Hardee's in Grandy and head east for a half a mile. Suddenly, it's right in front of you. As we got out of the car, a motorcycle started its twelve thousand horsepower engine and roared off. The first thing that struck me as we entered was the light scent of moth balls. My guess is that the place had been flooded by a recent hurricane (what hasn't) and they are disguising whatever aromas that leaves behind with every old lady's answer to odors.||The menu was decent. We both opted for the broiled oysters, 10 reasonable but not big bi-valves on a very green lettuce leaf, along with two sides and a couple very overdone hushpuppies. The oysters were very good. The cocktail sauce is not shy. Lots of horseradish. Tasted good. And we ended the meal by sharing a slice of banana cream pie. It was sort of fine, but I think Mrs. Smith had a hand in that one!||They do serve alcohol, a plus as the wine queen will not enter a place that does not. But they did not have pinot grigio. She happily accepted chardonnay as a substitute.||The server was very friendly and helpful. The place is rather old. That's OK. There was one or more themes in every dining room I saw. Chicago Bears in one. US Navy and a country singer in another. ||Your price of admission gets you a view of the Currituck Sound.||The prices were tolerable, but almost as high as we'd just left at the OBX. Will we go back again. Probably, but not...
Read moreI wanted a place close to an adventure my husband and I were going on. This quaint little lodge fit the bill PERFECTLY! It so happened there was a golf tournament going on in the area, but they had 1 room left! I swooped it up! I'm so happy I did! While making the reservation on the phone, I was speaking with the owner, Donna. She was so chipper and friendly! Once we found the place (quite easy), we met both owners, Donna and Barry. The lodge was on the water and connected to their restaurant. The food was so good we ate all our meals there! There was a pole by the dock that housed 2 osprey which added to the ambiance of this island feel restaurant/lodge. Both days we were waited on by Anna and Helen. These girls were so friendly and outgoing and helpful! They really helped make our stay even more enjoyable! Thank you ladies and Barry! We will tell everyone about this...
Read moreThe owners Donna and Barry were very welcoming. From the time me and my wife arrived we were greeted with kindness. Barry made amazing burgers and Donna made four amazing Margaritas. We were extremely excited that they had a room available in August. We stayed in the Mardi Gras room. My wife loved the decor. The room was clean and the bathroom was extremely sanitary. Donna came to make sure we found everything ok and gave us a brief history of the property, the Bay, and Walnut Island. It feels good to actually be welcomed when we visit different places but Barry’s Island made us feel extra special. This place is special to us and we look forward to coming back. The bar was amazing being that it is so close to our room. Can’t wait to use a few more PTO days and head...
