We towed a 32' travel trailer, fit both the pickup and trailer into a back-in site facing the usually placid river in which people swam, canoed, fished and kayaked. The campgrounds rented kayaks and canoes and sold firewood. Early mornings and nights were the BEST. I have never seen so many children at a campground, this has positive and negative results. Our site was fairly level and stayed dry even during the few days of heavy rain. Winds can be a bit of a problem sometimes, bring extra rope if you are using a large tent or canopy. We had some trouble with our 30 amp electricity upon arrive, Randy spent several hours 2 days in a row working on it successfully, no other trouble. Except that the wifi and phones were a serious problem. Verizon was okay, AT&T terrible. Our laptops were on again off again and since we will come to Duluth annually to visit grandchildren for 3 to 4 weeks at a time, this issue may keep us looking for another campground because my wife needs her connections. We walked our dog (not all dog owners followed the leashing rule) daily into the nearby state park which has wonderful fishing spots and hiking and a playground and more. Sundays through Wednesdays Fond du Lac was peaceful, quiet. Fridays and Saturdays were crowded, noisy, hectic. There are lovely tentsites as well as Electric/Water for some pullthrough and mostly back in. For $20 Randy will come and empty your holding tanks. Privacy is an issue especially on weekends. The staff was very friendly, for the most part the various neighbors were as well. Cannot speak to the bath-house and public toilets as we never used them. ||||A little expensive and a bit crowded, Fond du Lac is a 20 minute drive from Duluth which is a great city to tour and to visit with lots to do. Check out the many parks and the North Shore Scenic drive up to Two Harbors where Betty's Pies restaurant provides some GOOD eating and there is a great Fish and...
Read moreFond du Lac Campground offers an excellent experience for nature lovers. The campground stands out for its great service—staff are friendly, accommodating, and make sure campers feel welcome. The location is ideal, nestled along the river, offering serene views and peaceful surroundings that provide a perfect escape into nature. The contact-less check-in and checkout process is smooth and easy, ensuring a hassle-free experience from start to finish.
In terms of cleanliness, the campground maintains high standards, with well-kept facilities and clean. Whether it's the restrooms, campsites, or picnic areas, everything is well-maintained. The natural beauty of the area is wonderful, with plenty of privacy, riverside views, and opportunities for outdoor activities, making it an ideal spot for relaxation or adventure.
We had a large group and rented 7 spots, 6 campsites and 1 RV site, all in the same area. The RV site was a back-up site with water and 30 amp hook-up, we had plenty of room to maneuver.
The campground is small, cozy in fact, but there was enough space that we weren't bothered by other campers and we (hopefully) weren't a nuisance to other campers either.
Quiet time starts at 10pm and everyone quieted down at that time. We were there for a 14 year-old golden birthday celebration, we played outdoor games, grilled ribs and steaks, and other meats, cooked up quite a fancy feast actually. We caught a huge catfish.
Other campers brought their boats and kayaks, we could see them docked along the river. We saw people in kayaks all day long. A couple who had a boat told us they took their boat out to a sandbar and a swimming beach.
Overall, highly recommend...
Read moreCampground hosts seem to be so obsessed with women going into the men's room when the women's room was full it was bizarre. While I normally follow rules, I had to pee! I cracked the men's door slightly and asked if anyone was in there. A kind man stood guard for me. The next morning I was met by both campground hosts with screaming about today's society, sex trafficking and sexual assaults. I kid you not, the woman caretaker was yelling quite loudly. Other guests stood shocked. She even mentioned that her husband could be in there and didn't want other women looking at him.||||I left a note saying that their political frustrations seem to have rendered them intolerant beyond reason. I asked them to please consider older women like me who have lost the ability to "hold it", dads with little girls and caretakers with opposite sex patients when enforcing their bathroom rules.||||If you get a campsite along the river, it's awesome. Other sites are horrible. Personally, I will never stay there again...got enough crazy people that I deal...
