MERRISACH LAKE (recgovnpsdata) — Hotel in Dumas

This campground is beautiful and surrounded by Merrisach Lake. We were alone in the campground during our stay. The bath houses were clean and stocked, but the dump station is actually outside the main gate, which was a little inconvenient as we stayed for two weeks and needed to dump our tanks in the middle of it. Bring plenty of supplies, as the closest Walmart is an hour away even though it reads as 34 miles on the map. The main road into the area is called Tichnor Blacktop Road, because all of the other roads in the area are gravel or dirt. But man, you just can't beat the view here! 10/10! WORTH THE TRIP!

We spent some time here one day to do some wildlife viewing before going on to the Wildlife Management Area nearby. Much of the park’s area is in view of the lake. On this short visit, we saw aquatic birds and some armadillos. I found the birds to be more skittish here than I have in other places, and I found it hard to photograph them. I was pleasantly surprised to find the ladies’ room clean and well-stocked with toilet paper, even though it was the middle of winter and there wasn’t any staff at the gate. ||(Note: I have picnicked here in the summer, and there can be a lot of...
