Spent the weekend for the first time here. Everyone was courteous. We had an economy cabin with 2bdrm, a sofa sleeper, and 1 bath. It was stocked with nearly everything you would need to use while there... Bring your own food/drinks and have at it! There was no fire pit sadly, we did not roast dogs or make smores. Due to current fire 2 restrictions we could not grill. There was alot of rain this weekend but we did not let it put a damper on our trip. Cabin 8 has a nice view of the lake, the photos were a little deceiving though. Thought we would have been closer to the water. Not a deal breaker though. There is a marina blocks away and a swim and decent fishing areas a couple miles to the left of the lodge down the road. The lodge has laundry facilities and an indoor pool. There is a playground for the kiddos too. We booked this cabin through AirBnB and was disappointed that the sight said we could have three dogs. When actually the lodge only allows two with additional fees. I would have never known if I hadn't called the office to ask a few questions regarding our stay. In the end, would we stay here again.... Yes we would go again :) I would not book through the same 3rd party though. Beautiful area! Beautiful views! Less than 30min from Durango! Could easily fall in love with...
Read moreI stayed here with my wife for our anniversary weekend. We were looking for coziness and serenity, and largely found it. The view of the lake was lovely, the woman in the cabin rental office was friendly and knowledgeable, and there are some delightful amenities including a massive selection of VHS tapes you can borrow. The small cabin was well maintained - so well, in fact, that the smell of varnish that had been used on every square inch of the interior was headache-inducucingly fresh. The plumbing fixtures were also new, but the plumbing itself is not, causing a pressure issue in the shower that made it feel like bathing under a garden hose. Individual cabins are also quite close together, and noise travels quite clearly. Overall, if you're looking for a quaint, reasonably priced getaway, you could do worse. Also, one of the neighbor's dogs bit me while we were walking to the lake. So watch out...
Read moreI could write about how wonderful the cozy cabin we stayed in was, or how beautiful the view of the Vallecito Lake nestled between the mountains is, but what really makes Pine River Lodge shine the ONLY place to possibly stay during any trip to southwestern Colorado is the friendly family that owns and operates the lodge. The Atkinson family made the stay extremely pleasant, always smiling and helpful with suggestions on where the best trails to hike were, where the best places to eat were, so on and so forth. From the moment we arrived to the morning we checked out, they made us feel right at home. Of course, I could write about how Pine River Lodge is located quite conveniently close to some of the most beautiful camp grounds in America, and just a short drive from the picturesque, historic town of Durango, but if you want to experience authentic mountain hospitality, look no further than Pine...
