I had a wonderful time staying with my partner at Maine Forest Yurts. We arrived in the winter and were looking forward to some quiet escape time together, and we got it. The location was beautiful, the Yurt itself was very spacious and had everything we needed (no showers, but there was an outhouse right nearby, and water and kitchen supplies).
We brought our dog as well, who loved walking on the trails, and was very comfortable in the yurt. Noise from neighbors was pretty much nonexistent, and we basically felt like we had the place to ourselves. I would highly recommend going in the winter - the river that's right nearby freezes over, and you can walk across it for miles. It's breathtaking.
I'll also add that the man who got us set up was awesome. Genius that I am, the first thing I did when I got to the site was try to get my old Prius up an icy hill, and immediately wound up in a ditch. He quickly got a snowmobile and got all our stuff to the Yurt, then got his own truck and got my car out of the ditch for me. He was super helpful / supportive with anything else we needed.
The only complaint I have is that it got really cold at night. We had a wood fire stove, but I must have loaded it up wrong, because I had to keep refilling it every hour or so, and it burned out quickly / didn't produce much heat. I'm pretty sure this was my fault, since the yurt was very warm and comfortable during the day (i.e. when I wasn't the one running the show). Just something to keep in mind if you go, pay attention to the instructions or know your way around a wood stove!
I look forward to going back next year and would highly recommend...
Read moreWe wanted to have a yurt experience in Maine and found a rare opening for two nights (last minute). When we phoned, we were greetly by super friendly staff. Maine Forest Yurts are easy to find and located wonderfully in proximity to lovely sights! off the beaten path, it is remote. We stayed in Hemlock Ridge yurt. Each of the yurts is rather isolated and have their own areas. The owners are an amazing family. Down-to-earth and genuine people. Family business which has been lovingly cared for. The yurts are great and are something between a tent and a hotel - you have all the necessary amenities. Outhouse with pine needles to keep it fresh. Outdoor gravity shower - was great! Stove/oven, futon, table/chairs, games, sink, deck outside with table and chairs as well, firepit with adirondack chairs. Firewood onsite. Runabout pond provides a great opportunity to kayak, canoe - skip rocks, fish, enjoy nature! We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the yurt!!! This family cares about their guests - they are amazing - the yurt experience is not...
Read moreLooking to get off the beaten path and enjoy an absolutely immersive experience? Look no further. I’ve never stayed in a yurt prior to this visit, didn’t know what to expect and it’s going to remain an absolutely unique experience, and a little difficult to describe.
The yurt was so appropriately appointed, comfortable inside and out and the design elements and little touches really made this a special experience. From what I understood, they own a mile of coastline along a pond which Is long and flowing, like a river. You have access to their kayaks and canoes included with your stay, I had a great time canoeing down the river and ran into Peggy, one of the owners along the way!
I read through a few of the older reviews and someone, potentially unfamiliar with the geography of the area mistakenly noted that they could hear the interstate from their room. This would be impossible as the nearest busy road crosses 10 miles from the park. There’s a rural service road accessing the park but traffic is rare and I didn’t notice the noise...
