I loved my stay at the High Hill Inn. I was traveling solo on route further north and it was the perfect overnight. I preferred staying there hands down to a sterile chain hotel. I plan to return again. If you want a personalized welcoming stay in an authentic home situated in a beautiful slice of nature in Vermont, I highly recommend. Ann-Marie and Joe were warm, extremely welcoming and made me feel completely at home, gave me suggestions where to go and cooked a wonderful homemade breakfast (which is fun as I met other nice travelers). I was located on the top third floor which I had all to myself. It was peaceful. I had a private bathroom a main area a separate bedroom area and a balcony (note I|There is a low ceiling into bedroom area you had to be mindful of and V ceiling in bedroom since it’s top floor space but I didn’t mind -to me it made it unique and found the private upstairs so peaceful). The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The bathroom included a hairdryer, soaps, shampoo. I spent time walking the backyard and just sitting in the grass looking at the scenery. Such a break from commuter office work! The side streets from front door pretty and quiet if you like to walk. I also liked that it was short drive to the main street of Montpelier which I really enjoyed. Different stores and various shops that were fun to go in and out of (artist store, various restaurants, bookstore and many others). I highly recommend...
Read moreWe were a bit confused at first when we pulled up because it is in a residential area and their sign was being redone. However, once we found the place we found innkeepers that were lovely - welcoming, informative, and hospitable right down to having cookies laid out for us on arrival. The room was wonderful - we were on the third floor and had a tiny balcony and bathroom on our suite (multiple rooms will share a bathroom at this Inn, unless you have the Master Suite). The views from our windows, and those in the communal area of the inn, are fantastic. The High Hill Inn is a very fitting name, as you have a breathtaking view of the mountains from the deck. Breakfast was a delicious locally-sourced organic spread, all home-made. When I say locally sourced, I mean locally sourced. The eggs came from chicken that the Inn actually keeps itself. We met all of the Inn's animals (none of them live inside, not to worry if you have allergies) the following day, and the Innkeepers (who live at the Inn; there is not 24-hour service here like there would be at a chain hotel) were full of knowledge as to local activities and sights to see. We saw several things on their recommendation and were not disappointed. All in all I would absolutely stay here again, and recommend it to anyone who needs to stay...
Read moreMy fiancé and I went to Montpelier for our six year anniversary weekend, and staying here really made it special for us. The food Joe makes you every morning (and his stories and directions to things around here while cooking!) and Anne-Marie's recommendations and gentle, genuine interest in how your trip is going helped us feel very cared for while here (I'm a person that tends to travel first, plan later so she was very helpful!).
We has the Mountain White King room, which had BEAUTIFUL views that left us waking up feeling like we were watching an evolving photograph come to life with the mountains and sunrise. We used the tub twice there which felt luxurious. Pro tip: if you plan to book that room, bring some Epsom salts and some essential oils.
The location is very drivable, so if you've never been to downtown I'd say consider staying here and driving into downtown during the day-- there's plenty of parking. Do be aware that you'll need to drive down two short dirt roads to get there, but don't let that deter you. Once you're there, you'll understand why it's one of the highest rated places to stay...
