I stumbled upon this hidden gem by accident while traveling Michigan looking for dirt bike trails. The owner and his wife did everything possible to make me feel like I was at home. I had given them about an hour's notice of my arrival, and after I checked in, I was shown to my camping cabin. In check-in pouch, they even included a bag of popcorn!
I stayed in their camping cabin (more like a luxury home with no water) It was cleaner than I could have imagined. It was air conditioned, had 3 bunk beds with brand new mattresses, and a front porch near a small fire pit and picnic table. I commented to the owner about the strange lack of bugs outside, (unusual for Michigan this time of year) and he informed me that they treat the area multiple times a month to keep them away. I saw no mosquitos and it was awesome! The structure was built brand new this year, and it is a custom construction, wood frame structure with a tin roof. It was everything I needed. There was a separate building to use the bathroom, also newly constructed and had a great shower with an on-demand hot water heater (never runs out)
The other units on site have full kitchens, bathrooms and great air conditioning. There are also camp sites with full hookups for the RV crowd and many rustic campsites if you prefer to sleep in a tent (which you can bring or they can provide)
The access to the off road trails was right from the property. I didn't have to trailer my machine anywhere. It was a convenient distance from a few gas stops, and I rode some of the best single track Michigan has to offer.

There is only one place I think of when I want to get away no matter what time of the year it is. Best Bear Lodge operates 365 days a year and one of my favorite times to visit is around Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The campground is lit up at night with the coolest projection lights that reflect off the snow and surrounding trees. Peaceful! I have stayed at other campgrounds nearby in Irons but when I discovered BBL a few years ago everything changed and this became our favorite place to stay. I have stayed in nearly all of the accommodations at some point and have NOT been disappointed.
One weekend I discovered a flat tire on my Jeep and left a note for Matt asking if he had wrench I could use to change with the spare. At the time I went out riding on the awesome trail system and returned to see that Matt had swapped it the tire without me even asking.
Matt and Carrie are a huaband and wife team that compliment each other in many ways. In talking with Matt, I have seen that he makes sure to put his wife first and takes the time to get away for their own R and R.
If you are looking for a vacation location that will leave a lasting impression on you then Best Bear Lodge should be on your list.
Consider bringing your atv to check outthe awesome trails and if you don’t have one of your own, there are places not far from the lodge where you can rent them.
I enjoy Best Bear Lodge so much that someday I hope to see a Pure Michigan commercial promoting this place.

This is the most fraudulent business I have ever come across. STAY AWAY. STAY AWAY. STAY AWAY. My fiancé and I came here about 4 months ago with two other couples. We rented a side-by-side for the both of us for $300. Matt the owner went over polices as well as additional charges that can occur if damage does happen to the vehicle. My fiancé and I made sure to follow the rules as we didn’t want to come across any additional charges. The car was brought back the same way we took it. At the end one of the workers said my fiancé ruined the tracks at the front and asked him to to fix it handing him a rake. I have never ever witness such unprofessionalism. We both looked at each other shocked wondering if she was joking but she sure wasn’t. Terrible service. The next day we noticed an additional charge of $600 and I immediately called to speak to the owner Matt. This man does not know how to communicate professionally. He was very rude and was mentioning how the other vehicles were damaged. I called to speak on the vehicle we rented. He started to make false claims and was unable to provide me proof that I needed. Now we are receiving an additional $300 on top of all the rest. Matt the owner will find any reason to charge you and it’s not cheap. Beware. Pay cash and use your credit card because they will cheat you. I would just advice you to not go so many other places that are way more professional/respectful/safer to go to than this filthy place.
