Before retiring, I wore two hats—by day, I managed a floor-covering business in Columbia, MO, helping people turn houses into homes. By night (or rather, weekends), I pursued my passion as an entertainment columnist. My column, RW McMurray's Celebrity Contact, graced several mid-Missouri daily newspapers every Saturday and appeared nationally in Autograph Collector magazine as a monthly feature. Those dual roles often had me crisscrossing the country, and over the years, I’ve experienced my fair share of motels and hotels. Yet, one place recently stood out among them all, and I couldn’t resist sharing my thoughts.
My stay at the Elsberry Motel & Lodge in Elsberry, MO, was nothing short of fantastic! This cozy gem exceeded my expectations in every way. The room was a delightful retreat: equipped with a mini-fridge that kept my snacks perfectly chilled, a microwave for convenient meals, and a mounted color TV to unwind with after a long day. The bed? Pure bliss—like sleeping on a cloud, leaving me refreshed and recharged each morning. Thoughtful touches like a nightstand on one side of the bed and a four-drawer dresser on the other, along with a spacious closet and a desk, made the room both comfortable and functional.
The complimentary Internet was another standout feature—fast, reliable, and perfect for staying connected, whether for work or leisure. It was clear from every detail that the Elsberry Motel & Lodge prioritizes their guests’ comfort and convenience.
Having stayed at countless accommodations during my travels, I can confidently say this is one of the best. Whether you're visiting for business, leisure, or something in between, the Elsberry Motel & Lodge is a true haven. I’ll...
Read moreAs we were driving through the area for the first time, the check engine light was on and the driver wanted to stop so I could check it out and make sure the trip home would be safe. After making sure we were able to drive on, we decided to find out if we could find a restroom before we got back on the road. There was a large party going on in the building to the north of the property. I walked down and found the office and rang the bell to find the manager. The manager was happy to help us out and opened the game room next to the large event room, so we were able to continue on our way. The parking lot was full and the people were going on and out and from what we could see, the facility seemed very nice. The game room was kept up and the pool table, etc. all looked in very good condition. Having never been through the area, we didn't know if there were other places to stop. Thanks to the graciousness of the manager we had a much better trip home! Relieved the stress of not knowing about the engine and the pressure of full bladders, we drove away happy we...
Read moreOlder motel. I have straight talk and had full cell phone service. 104 dollars for two nights was a bit steep considering you could get a hotel in Troy for that price but since everything was booked for the fair we went ahead. The rooms were quite and modernly updated. Only drawbacks were the "local" crowd who I guess lives there and got stares and felt uncomfortable from quite a few people while a lot of the other ones were quite nice including the owner. The shower knob in our room was broke but that's the only negative thing I can say...
