We stayed here last night for a quick one-night off-season getaway.
Summary: I can’t remember what this property was before LOGE bought it, but it generally seems like LOGE has kept it open to generate some income while doing some necessary work. We had a lovely, relaxing stay and it was just what we needed. However, the $400/night price tag seems awfully steep for what we got, especially when check in is at 4 and checkout is at 10:30– a grand total of 18 hours in the room. We hope to come back, but will wait to see what other updates they do or whether they drop the price to make it feel more worthwhile.
Pros: The Hawthorn cabin was quiet and private and felt like it was in the middle of the woods. The Hawthorn has its own two-person hot tub that looks out on a creek and is perfectly secluded on the cabin’s back porch. The bed was so comfortable, especially the pillows! We didn’t use the heated pool or communal hot tub because of the private hot tub at our cabin. But we checked them out and they looked awesome! The location would be truly unbeatable during ski season. I appreciate that they provided not just coffee but also creamer!
Cons: At around 6am we suddenly had no water— couldn’t make coffee, flush the toilet, or shower. The front desk wasn’t staffed til 8am, and we called as soon as they opened. The person was apologetic and explained they had to replace a battery in a water pump or something. We had water again by about 8:30am, but it wasn’t a great start to the morning. I wish they had at least communicated with us by text, and/or let us know who to contact for an after-hours issue. The shower knob is set to not turn last a certain temperature. I’m not sure what that temperature is, but it wasn’t hot enough. The heat in the cabin had trouble keeping up, and it wasn’t even that chilly outside. We are outdoorsy people and are used to rustic accommodations, so the combo of a gas fireplace and baseboard heat was totally fine with us. However, the fireplace was controlled by the thermostat, but turning the thermostat up higher didn’t seem to increase the heat put out by the fire; the thermostat just turned it off or on, and when it was on the flames and heat were very low. We were fine last night but we’re a bit chilly this morning and couldn’t quite get it to warm up. After booking we learned that their cafe is not open yet, so we drove over to Crystal for dinner. (I had no idea the Snorting Elk is open in the off season!) So that was fine, but not quite the full experience we were hoping for. We didn’t try super hard to find the fire pit, but it wasn’t obvious where it was and it seemed like it was in an area where they were doing construction. We didn’t receive any info about it when we arrived, so we didn’t know whether we’d need to build a fire, where the wood was, etc. We could have been more proactive, but it also wasn’t an easy...
Read moreUpdate: My travel agency has been trying to reach out to you guys this whole morning and again, wasn't able to get in contact. If you really want to address this issue, answer their call. I need a full refund. I even called you in advance to verify the check-in time and no one told me the front desk would be off at 6PM on that day. I did everything I could ahead of time to avoid the problem to happen, and yet it still happened. Go figure out whose fault it was with the travel agency.
Original: Worst Experience Ever.
First, I would like to say that front desk staff were nice and friendly on my day checking out. The following statement would not necessarily be their fault.
Now here's the experience: This property did not provide me with my room number and access code even I booked way ahead of time. My check-in was on Thursday, and I called on Monday to confirm that in the case we arrive around 9PM if there still would be front desk staff available to help us check in. Over the phone call they responded me that the access code would be sent in email and text so I don't need to worry. Great, on the day of arrival, I did not get any email/text, so I tried to call them again, several times, left voice messages, no one answered. Now, again, no one notified me at what time the front desk would be off. We arrived there at 8:40 ish, found that they were off at 6PM on that day. They provided a physical phone to be used to "call the afterhours manager", but that phone simply is not functioning. We could only hear a long "beep----" from it. Imagine this, we were stuck in the mountains with no reception so we could not call anyone for help. We booked this hotel so that we could go early in the morning for hikings with no need to drive from the city, so by this time choice was either spending the night in our car or go back to the town and mess up our whole trip plan. Luckily, we had some help from other guests, who provided us with the afterhour manager's phone number that we were finally able to contact via imessage on the property's Wi-Fi. Now, I want to make this super clear --- the fact that we were able to get in eventually was not because of any help I got from your property or the travel agency. Until the time I am writing this down, I still did not get any explanaton on why I did not receive anything regarding this reservation in my email, and my confirmation number did not work in their LOGE app, either. After one-night stay, let's just say I would rather stay in my Tesla for the night. All the facilities were super outdated, the bed could not be any worse. It was that uncomfortable because it was so old and slept-in that there was a big dip in the middle.
I cannot imagine I paid almost 400 dollars for one night of bad experience like this. I have contacted my travel agency for requesting a full refund. Not a single thing about this reservation...
Read moreI was very excited to book my stay here! I had felt hopeful that with new management from Loge that this hotel would’ve have seen an update. Like other reviewers my price at checkout was higher than originally, not by a lot, but still higher than was the price listed that included ‘taxes and fees’ and it was impossible to track down what those additional charges were.
Now onto the rooms. The first room I was booked into, C1, had multiple mice. I saw them scatter upon walking into the room and found lots of fresh mouse poop on the counter tops and the cabinets. Leaving me without a place to store food. Additionally this room hosts an electronics cabinet that looks like it powers the rest of the condos in this building. It was very loud, this was less than ideal because I was trying to work. I ended up using several blankets hung up on the door to create a sound buffer. The room was not stocked with the firewood that is included in the $25 amenity fee, nor any of the Loge Swag that the company boasts about including in their marketing. The kitchen utensils were severely compromised and worn, and essential pieces such was water pots, mixing bowls, cutting boards, were missing.
I checked in later in the evening, and did request to switch rooms due to the mice issue. My request was denied because due to the off season there were not any available clean rooms. My dog stayed up late trying to hunt mice as I stayed in that room the first night, I didn’t sleep much. However, the lady that helped me the first night was incredibly kind and helpful with my questions and getting my room firewood despite not being able to help with the mouse issue.
The next morning with the manager in, I requested to switch rooms, they were apprehensive at first and were gonna send in maintenance to try and trap the mice, which at this point I had seen scamper across the room several times, however this would not solve the electrical noise issue and the trapping would be distracting from my work, so they did let me switch.
I moved into room B1 at 4pm, this room was in nicer shape than C1 and did not have any signs of mouse poop or a cabinet full of buzzing cables. The kitchen pans and pots were in better condition, but essential items like a cutting board, drying rack were missing. This room came with firewood but I found out fairly quickly that the chimney is clogged and smoke didn’t clear, I ensured the damper was open. I found Mold under the bathroom cabinet while looking for toilet paper.
Both rooms had burnt out light bulbs, and very worn furniture. I went into the hot tub and regretted it because it was very slimy.
Additionally, the main method for communicating with the front desk is via text. This does not work very well in an area with very bad phone service, their front desk phone for texting did not have iMessage or wifi messaging.
