Overall: 3/5
Cabin: 2/5 We stayed for the weekend in one of their cabins. Upon arrival, the floor was soaking wet. Maybe they tried to clean? But when I wiped it up, it came up yellow. The countertops had a film of dust on them. The mini fridge has never been wiped down. The pillows are the flattest and dirty things ever. Both the pillows and bed were fully of brown and yellow stains. Luckily we brought our own linens because I would not want to see the color of their sheets and things. The mini fridge is big enough for a few drinks, a few packaged salads, some yogurts, lunch meat, and a Tupperware of premised dinner- that’s all. The bathrooms are fine for community bathrooms. Cleaned once a day by staff.
Riding: 4/5 every trail is full of braking acceleration bumps. More so than any GA or NC OHV system we’ve been to. The trails are otherwise well maintained. There are clear arrows to mark trails, but unfortunately there are no maps for you to use. There are plenty other trails to keep everyone in our group (5-6 diamond riders and 3-4 diamond riders) busy and getting to ride together. It had not rained in awhile so most of the trail of dusty but you could definitely tell the ruts are full of mud when it rains. Note that the rating system is flawed at the higher levels- There were many 5 diamond trails harder than 6 diamond trails.
Things to note: If your phone uses AT&T towers, your phone will switch to central time but it’s not actually. Also, they don’t care much about their clientele, in my opinion. We wanted to ride a few hours in the morning after check out but before our 5 hour drive home but they are unwilling to do a half day rate. Also, if there is a park map, they didn’t give me one, despite saying it’s my first visit, suggesting my opinion of them not caring too much is accurate. Lastly, check out the roads on Google maps before you go. You’re on a skinny road for a while and you would never think you’ll find the park. Then, since we arrived after hours, it took a while to figure out where we were supposed to go and park. The office staff I called prior to arriving said it’s well marked and easy to figure out. I got out of the car to walk around and could figure it out to guess where to park, but it is definitely not...
Read moreFirst time here for me and my son. We are novice campers and above average dirt bike riders. Drove 7 hrs and spend 3 nights in a cabin. They have 4 tracks. Pee wee, Easy, Intermediate and WOW! Lot's of trails for both 2 and 4 wheels. Cabins are a good alternative to just a tent.
Pros: It rained the day before we arrived and tracks were in good shape with not a lot of rutting. Trails were drying out and had good traction. You can choose challenging or you can go easy. Even with a bunch of ppl there, no problem having fun. All the trails are one way. SMART!
Cons: It's hit or miss with the counter ppl. The young gentleman was extremely nice. The middle age gentleman was sarcastic and not that helpful. This next part was a hot factor with most ppl we talked with...Restroom amenities were SPARSE and really in need of repair and updating!! The showers were moldy and not the least bit accommodating. Fix or replace the vent fans in the bath house and put some damn hooks on the walls and discover this thing we call bleach. And lets hope you don't need to use a toilet! Only one in the men's bathroom (no door!), two in the girls (one was out of order but at least they had doors) and one community. Are you flipping kidding me? They have 5 cabins and boo-ku amounts of primitive camp sites! It's like having a 100 room hotel with only 2 1/2 baths! At least rent some portal-lets!!! The cabins have AC and ceiling fans but don't turn either on. They both make LOTS of noise and the ceiling fans will literally vibrate and implode, if left on for more than a couple of minutes. The lock on our cabin didn't work so anything of value had to be locked in the truck
This place if very fun and could definitely rate more stars, if they would just spend a few bucks on maintenance and updates! Such...
Read moreTime and time again I leave this place and already can't wait to go back. The track and trails are almost always in great shape, with the exception being when it doesn't rain for a few weeks (all tracks ANYWHERE are in bad shape after no rain for weeks). With most of the place being good ol' Georgia red clay, it can dry out rather fast. The difficult MX track (MX2) is only opened when prepped. When it is prepped, MX2 is up there with the best tracks in the southeast. Big jumps and demanding. There is also a big GP style track (MX1) with more forgiving jumps, and a much easier MX3 track, which I would describe as ideal for beginners on big bikes or a good mini track. The trails have plenty of variety, with a rating system between 1 and 5 diamonds. If it has just rained, add a diamond to everything. The higher up you go on the rating system, the more narrow/gnarly the trails get. For the woods guys looking for a challenge, my personal favorite trail is Trail 10 (both 10A and 10B). The staff is very helpful and can direct you anywhere that you want to go. There is a KTM dealership on site, which means that there is also a service station on site, as well as a full stock of KTM parts. Unlike many other track owners, the owner Paul actually rides and is constantly working on the trails himself. Cabins on site are reasonably priced, and there is also primitive camping available. All-in-all, I have been going to HP for 4-5 years now, and I will continue going...
