Nature experience. Enjoyed it!! So beautiful and real. At night after setting up the big tent and coming back from a campfire talk by a knowledgeable park ranger, we saw the most clear night sky with bright stars in an awesome night sky. Spectacular. I grew up in Kansas and this was the best sky for stars I had seen since I was in the countryside of rural Kansas. Maybe better. I knew my three friends I camped with from the annual Woodstock Fruit Festival. I do recall that we have a great view of the sky snd stars when we go to the nightly bonfire there in Upstate New State in the Adirondack Mountains. Anyway, back to Midway, the camp's Volunteer Alex greeted our car on arriva l. It was $24 to spend the night. He had his campsite at the entrance. I am impressed with Midway. Beautiful natural setting. We came in on a first-come first-served basis. Inspiring setting. We arrived in our vehicle from Key West. On the way to Midway, we made one main stop other than for gasoline and snacks. It was at a lovely state park beach Curry Hammond to swim, relax and take a break. We called Midway and checked the parks government website and learned that same day that they had stopped taking reservations. So we felt lucky to get a camping spot on arrival. We noticed there were some other spots. I was with three guy friends, who were Alfredo from New York City and Miami, Tom from Manchester, U.K., and Ronnie Smith from Glasgow, Scotland, who operates a fruit camp in the U.K. I helped pump up one of the air beds with my hands and then feet. We had our own picnic table and parking spot. I went over to chat with some neighbors camping near us. They were a couple with a small tent who had bicycled to Midway. They were going to Miami and then to Key West. It was fun hearing about their bicycle trip. They were from up north. The husband had driven a vehicle down with the bicycles. His wife took an airplane and they met up. I also walked over to the information stand near the entrance a a big United States flag. They ad material to read on the Everglades, Big Cypress, birds, animals snd more. As a senior, I learned that if I was a liftime National Parks member, our entance fee would be haslf price at $12. My $80 unlimited lifetime National Parks membership would also entitle my three friends in nearby national parks for free. My camping group saw the sunset as we rode to the Monument Lake park ranger talk. We learned a lot about Big Cypress and the area. We were lucky there was a talk that night. A different week it is at our campsite lake, with its own lovely lake. I took pictures on arrival after getting out of our vehicle. It is very scenic here. We decided to go to the campfire talk 8 miles down the road. First, though, we ate fruit at our picnic table we had bought at Robert Is Here, an awesome fruit shop in Homestead. There is a clean and ample restroom with separate sides for men and women. We could change there. So I hope you like my photographs. After leaving, we did see alligators and other wildlife. Alfredo drove and pointed out all the fruits that are growing in the fields as we drove. So much good land for growing fruits. We were fortunate our friend Alfredo, originally from Panama, knew so much about the Florida fruits, birds and vegetation!

Edit: PLEASE NOTE: 1.) There are NO ON SITE SEWAR HOOK UPS. There is a communal dump station at the front of the park. 2. There is NO ON SITE WATER HOOK UPS. There is water at the dump station and a few feet in front of that there is potable water. 3. There are NO SHOWERS. There is a restroom with toilets and sinks but NO SHOWERS. 4. There are NO PLAYGROUND, NO TENNIS/BASKETBALL COURTS. NO SWIMMING POOL. NO HIKING TRAILS at the park. Hiking trails can be found off site. 5. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES allow your children or dogs around the lake at this park or any other body of water in the Everglades. If it’s wet there is an alligator in it. If you don’t see an alligator in the water, they are still in it. You can trust that. 6. Midway is a nice, very basic, clean park. I travel with an Internet device but this trip I could not get service to save my life. (I’ll be ordering STARLINK today.) This trip I came to participate in the Python Challenge 2025, didn’t get anything for those of you who may be curious. Not for lack of trying. 7. Reservations will have to be made by phone if they weren’t made in advance. If you don’t have Internet service you will have to get back on the road until you find some. Shouldn’t take long. 8. New photo op just opened up. Alligator Alcatraz about 4-6 miles from the park toward Miami. Have your picture taken at the sign. Buy a T shirt if the man is out there selling them. Have fun. Enjoy your stay. 2024: Third time is the charm. After 2 failed reservations (our fault not theirs) we finally made it to Midway Campground. Nice, peaceful place. Three other campers and one tent camping while we were there. Bathrooms were fine. They could have used a little TLC but very useable. Shared dump station, water at dump station and drinkable water a few feet down. None at camp site. Grass was high and sites could have been blown off but it is the off season so no big deal. It more than served our purpose. While we were there we drove Loop Road. Loop Road is a 24 mile road where you can see the alligators in their natural habitat. It was late when we went but we still saw a few. Make reservations by phone or on line at Recreation.gov. Call ahead of time. Cell service is spotty at best. We travel with an Internet device but saw the tent campers in the road trying to get a signal. No gas, food, drink or stores nearby. Come prepared. Watch for water moccasins. Do not walk your dog anywhere near the lake or behind the camper sites. Alligators and snakes in both places. Definitely will return to Midway.

Overview- great quite little camp ground about 29 sites around lake. Very dark so great place to watch the sky. We stopped overnight on our way from Tampa to blue water key. Liked it enough to go back and do some air boat rides and gator wrestling.

In/out- easy in and out but helps if you have it on your GPS so you know when it's coming up because it can come up quick.

Bathrooms- were closed when we visited as the fed govt was closed. Laundry- none

Sites Power 50, 30 ,110 service Water- there is potable water onsite but none at your site so fill up before you park. Waste- there is a dump station on your way out. Cable - none but did find about 13 OTA stations Cell service- we were able to get Verizon signal good enough to stream Hulu with a directional antenna. Other wise no service. WiFi- none Workout- none Other amenities- fire rings and some sites had grills Near by activities- airboat rides, swamp buggies. Misc thoughts. There was no ranger to meet us or camp host do to govt shut down.

These are our opinions and we have not been compensated. You may have a different experience but this was ours. We have a 30' trailer and f250. Our reviewis based mainly on that rig setup.#TheAdventureKrewe #airstream

We are not compensated for our opinion. But open to partner with brands we...
