I had an exceptional stay at the Hartsel Ranch Lodge. The ranch itself has a deep, rich and storied history in Colorado. And while staying on the property, you just can't help but wonder what ranch life must've been like 'back in the day'. Today, however, with the completely remodeled main lodge and the recently completed new log cabins, we guests are treated to luxurious accommodations, spectacular views, hearty breakfasts to start your days with, and free rein to explore this spectacular historical ranch. All the rooms in the lodge are gorgeous, comfortable and quiet. And all the cabins are built in the style of the old homestead cabins and are artistically furnished with the most modern of conveniences. There ain't a bad room on the ranch, y'all.
As a fly fisherman still learning the ins and outs of the sport, this was an ideal stay for me. Both my guided trips were guided by resident professional fly fishing guide Hayden Roe. I learned so much in those two days, on two different sections of the South Platte, under Hayden's tutelage, that I'm ready to sign up for more in the coming year. His guidance was clear, concise, and enthusiastic. And his demonstrations of the techniques we were using were flawless and eye opening. I learned a ton, caught plenty of trout, and could not have asked for better. In addition, when not being guided on the ranch itself, this location is close to famous trout waters like the Dream Stream and 11 Mile Canyon.
One last mention I'd like to make about this property is about the owners, Scott & Diane Roe. Two of the friendliest, most accommodating and gracious hosts I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. They are pouring their hearts and souls into this venture, working to help keep the Hartsel Ranch legacy alive, providing exceptional guest accommodations, and making their visitors feel most welcome and wanted. They have created a great place for couples, families and fly fishers to get away and enjoy the outdoors in one of the most beautiful areas in the country. Come here and enjoy!

Read moreThis Ranch is an absolute gift. It was everything we could have wanted it to be and more. We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and everything exceeded our expectations: the accommodations, the fishing, the view and environment, and the hospitality.
Our cabin was so clean and beautiful we thought we were the first ones in it. It was stunning, so comfortable and the finishes screamed luxury in the wilderness.
Loretta and Di’s hospitality made it feel like we were apart of the family there and like it was a home away from home. Their personal touches made us feel like our stay was truly appreciated.
The landscape is absolutely stunning. I can’t say enough about the views. The sunsets made me feel like I was in the Southeast again and the cotton candy skies and morning light reflecting off the mountains was unmatched.
Finally the fishing was top notch and the river yielded great results. My boyfriend had 6 fish in just a couple hours our first afternoon and I caught my first 3 trout ever on fly just steps...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I spent the weekend in the lodge at Hartsel Ranch. We were there to attend my friend’s wedding at the ranch. The location is quiet, tranquil and conveniently located about a half hour from Buena Vista and twenty minutes from Fairplay. The views at the ranch are amazing. The Lodge is cozy ranch chic. Our room was perfect and accommodating with a luxurious bed and a private bathroom. My friends were staying in one of the cabins which really has to be seen to be believed. The cabins offer everything you could possibly want for a private weekend (or week) away. The ranch has private fishing and a wonderful barn for events or barn dinners. Dianna (Owner) and staff did an amazing job on my friend’s wedding. The food was tasty and the service was stellar. Everything went perfectly and looked fantastic. My boyfriend and I plan to go back and stay in one of the cabins and have a quiet weekend just...
