I arrived late on the Saturday before memorial day. Spirit of the Wilderness called a camp host to find out if there was any openings. There were. I arrived and was able to look at the wall and see what openings were left(3 of them), I loved knowing there were openings and not having to drive through the campgrounds to find one. Site 30 was available so I chose it. I crossed it off the list per instructions. Granted I am a tent camper and this was an electric site, hence being late. It was a great site! There was a perfect flat tent pad at the back right corner of the site. The fire pit was above the ground so I didn't have to be on my knees to cook food. The bathroom which was next to my site was super clean. Flushable toilets and a shower are very awesome to have after driving eight plus hours and working before leaving on my trip. As I was hooking up my canoe trailer to head into the BWCA, a camp host stopped and talked to me. He asked how my stay was, where I was headed, that he was sad to see me leave and asked if I would come back another time. My answer is absolutely! To end the conversation with him he wished me a safe journey on my solo BWCA trip. The site might cost alittle bit more do to it be an electric site but for the flat tent pad it is worth...
Read moreI go here with my family every summer for a week, and each year this campground becomes way more exciting to go to! Scenery is beautiful, the wildlife is abundant, air is fresh, everything is AWESOOOOOME! I’ll list off some amazing things you can do while your there:
-Catch crayfish to have for a snack(the tails are the best part, and a trick to successfully catching each crawdad is to catch it from the back. When they wanna run away, they’ll flick their tails to escape and shoot backwards, but if your hand or net is in the way of their escape trail, you’ll definitely catch it!) -Go fishing -Walk around, study the wildlife and plants -Bird watch -Enjoy a peaceful camp fire -Canoe -Watch the stars -Look for arrowheads or any other artifacts -Swim -Sketch the things you see -Breath in the beautiful air -Listen to the cry of loons -Become one with nature...
That’s not even the start of what you can do, anywhoo! Enjoy your stay! It’ll always be one...
Read moreThis is a great campground right on Fall Lake, one of the entry points to the BWCA. The majority of sites have electrical hookups for 120v and 220v so you can plug in simple items, like a CPAP or chargers, or more serious things like RVs and travel trailers. Fire rings let you have a fun evening cooking burgers and making s'mores and the large picnic tables accomodate a crowd.
The sites are shaded enough that we left our canopy in the car and sat outside and then moved into our screen canopy when the skeeters got thick.
Sites are compact but cleverly built to maximize space, with enough room for two tents and a large screen canopy, plus two vehicles.
The bath houses were clean and conveniently located; my only niggle was the extremely hot shower temperature. I don't mind a very warm shower but it was quite uncomfortable for me and the water temp is not adjustable. Prepare accordingly, especially if you are showering...
