My experience with Adventures on the Gorge was an awesome one. From the adventures to the guides is amazing. I was there for Boy Scout High Adventure from July 14th-July 30th. But only was at Adventures on the Gorge for the first 3 days. With a group of twenty-nine people we were the smallest council to go on this trip. We were treated like we lived there and that’s how you run a business. Anyway, the food was the best part, From the tasty waffles to ¼ pound burgers it was the best meal I had in a while. This is only some of my extraordinary experience. But this place wouldn’t be possible without… The staff, at this place are fun, caring and trustworthy, they will go above and beyond to make sure you have the best experience. From daring you to do something you’re scared of doing to helping you get over anything, they are there for you. Also, with staff you always have something in common, like with my treetop ziplining instructors they were eagle scouts from the Midwest. It connects to me because I was on my National Jamboree trip with Boy Scouts when we went there. Also with my White-Water Rafting guide, we had adventures in common and we both love to have fun. My Gravity Ziplining guides were my Favorite because who knew attractive girls loved to zipline. I got a picture with one of the guides I had a might have had a crush on the entire time there, but you’ll never know. People need to realize that staff know when to have fun and when to be serious so if you do what you’re told and have fun you will have a blast. Now Diving down even deeper to the activities you could experience. The activities include White-Water rafting, Gravity zip and treetop zip, And timber trek. But not only can you do those there’s a lot more to do on the resort like playing cornhole, go shopping, free swim, etc. These activities all in one place are hard to pass up. I suggest you go to this special place because you might not have another chance to go. One of my experiences was gliding down the zipline 3200 meters in the air racing a buddy of mine to the finish. Being so high up and feeling the air push past me was a rush of energy making me hungry for more. These activities are all fun, but the staff will make sure you’re safe and make these activities memories for the ages. Thirdly will get into food. The grub was the one of the best parts of the trip. It was even better because it was all you can eat. From bacon to waffles at breakfast to burgers to pasta and supper, it was all amazing. The relief of not having to cook on somewhat of my vacation was a dream. The taste of a warm tasty meal is great when you’re sitting in any kind of weather. While we were having burgers one night it started to storm, it felt so much like home because it wasn’t even in the forecast. Also, when we were eating breakfast, I loved the food so much I went around and cleaned up the tables of are dirty dishes because us boy scouts are messy eaters. This been fun but know comes the end of my review of Adventures on the Gorge. The Adventures on the Gorge is a great experience, Family’s, groups, and couples all have a place to enjoy themselves. From the Adventures to the staff were all great. But the most important part of this whole adventure is safety, being so far from home and being treated like family is a great way to run a business and they have done it. The most important staff member was Momma D, she went over the above and beyond line to keep us safe while we were there, she made sure we had places to sleep when we had layover and many amazing things, we couldn’t have done it without her. If you’re thinking of going on a family trip to Adventures on the Gorge, go here because you...
Read moreWe did the half day lower New River rafting tour and had a wonderful time! Our guide, Amanda was really fantastic. To start, she clearly knows what she is doing with rafting. But she is also fun and thoughtful. It was my first time, and I was worried about my 12 year old since she is very small (less than 90 pounds). However, I felt safe the whole time, and the river was really beautiful. I definintely would do this again if given the chance! One of the best things was that there was a good amount of rapids separated by calm waters, so you can get both the fun of the rapids and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the river.
The one complaint I have is that they don't follow their own masking policy on the bus. The bus ride is about 30 minutes long, and as of the time we were there, the CDC is recommending masking on public transportation since you can't tell by looking at someone whether they are vaccinated or not. I was not worried for myself since I'm vaccinated, but due to her age, my daughter had not gotten her second shot at the time. I had called ahead to ask about the bus ride masking, and they said everyone wears a mask on the bus. However, on the way down, about half the people (including the guide) were not wearing masks, and on the way back almost nobody did since they gave us beer. It was a nice gesture, but I would not have gone if I had known my child would be in a bus for half an hour with no one wearing a mask since they were drinking. I would have preferred we take a few minutes to drink before getting on the bus and then mask up.
If you are fully vaccinated though, I highly recommend this trip! One other thing I was not aware of is that they take pictures of you during the rafting. The pictures are expensive (if I recall it was $50 or $60). But the quality is very professional. I would have bought them except that I was making a stupid face on every rapid :) I did a weird thing where I was holding my breath and puffed out my cheeks every time. So I just recommend that you don't do that, and the pictures will turn out really well. If you take a group of 6 or 7, I think you'll all be in a boat together, and this would be the perfect set...
Read moreSo me and my Father went to West Virginia for Bridge Day as well as White Water Rafting. We stayed at a cabin the whole trip here as well as used the features the resort had open. We went at the end of the season, not for everyone but perfect for me. It also worked out to our advantages. The cabin was perfect just 4 bunks, sleeps 8 or 16 if you double up. It was plenty spacious for just us two. It had a porch, a couple windows, fan, and and couple outlets. Bring a power strip if you need to charge a lot of phones. Outside the cabin was a nice grill/fire pit combo and a picnic table both were everything you'd need and them. We used our own propane grill since it was just two of us. The rafting trip was what i expected and THEN SOME. We happened to book our trip on the last day of the season, so the guides wanted end the season properly. I even got thrown out of the raft by the power the river but I was safely rescued by another person on the trip. I really left with a story to remember. The food we ate at Smokeys before and after our trip was amazing. Breakfast and dinner were both buffets would i enjoy more. The bus ride to the river and back was enjoyable. The tour leader Doug did a great job of making us a team as a group and giving the KNOWLEDGE and advice, as well as what Kansas added to who was the river guide in my actual raft. The infromation they provided us before we hit the river is what I believe allowed another patron to help get me out safely when i fell in. The trip ended well with an all you can eat buffet BBQ by a campfire in the woods man was it cold. Great trip made even better the awesome staff, guides, and even other customers. It was fun oriented place for the adventurous. Nothing was slack. The bathrooms and wash houses will always clean and stocked. The bus driver was super friendly. The bars and restaurants were fairly priced at value for the quality and quantity you got. The Bands that played were very unique and enjoyable. The don't cut corners. I'll be back again and again. The icing on the cake was the video and photos they take...
