Stay away! Dishonest owner!
If you read this entire post, thank you. It is long but I thought carefully before I posted because after reading previous Yelp and Google reviews. I see the owner thoughtfully replies and defends her property, while trying to discount the feelings of the reviewer whenever something negative is posted.
On 8/1/24 I booked a stay at Arizona Mountain Cabins and Inn (which I will shorten to AZMIC going forward) through my credit card’s points website which uses Expedia. The price point that came up for Cabin 9 from 8/16-8/18 was $72 per night. I booked it easily enough. That evening I received an email from the owner, Mary. I posted my email on Yelp, but basically she said there was a pricing error beyond her control, and wanted to know if I still want the reservation at $172 per night.
It was late and I did not respond. The next day I received three missed phone calls and one voicemail and called after work. I called Expedia twice first, told them the situation and asked if AZMIC was required to honor the price. Both people I spoke with said the stay was already paid for, so there are no issues with the price. I then called AZMIC and talked briefly with someone before Mary came on the phone. Our conversation was 7 minutes long. I was very calm when speaking with her. Told her that this was not the first time I had an issue booking with them.
The last time was before Covid and I booked a one night stay over a weekend. I remember getting a call soon after and whoever I spoke with at the time said it was a two-night minimum and asked if I still want the reservation. I was not able to stay more than one night at the time, so I cancelled it. When I told this to Mary, she did not seem phased by my previous experience, nor my current experience and only about her bottom line.
Mary did say that $72 would not even pay for the cleaning. She did offer me a stay in the lodge and a reduced rate, which I also declined because I was bringing my dogs and they are not allowed in the lodge. In the end, I told her I need to think about it and I will be in contact.
In 8/3/24, I replied to Mary’s email saying if it was an error on their part, they should make it right. On 8/5/24, I replied simply saying, ‘I am sure you had a busy weekend. Please reply.’ I waited longer.
Later on 8/5/24, I receive an email from Expedia say that I have been banned. I called Expedia and they contacted AZMIC because they still saw the reservation in the system still. The agent told me that I cannot stay at their property because I was banned back in 2018. If I was banned, why would she offer me another room and ask me if I still wanted the reservation?
Mary was not able to cancel my reservation, so she tried to manipulate me into doing myself. When I wouldn’t budge, she made up that I was banned.
Hey, I know Mary has a business to run and a bottom line, but as the owner, she had the power to make it right for the guest.
I hope you think again before booking this property. And Mary, I eagerly await your response and hope you are honest in what you say. Without guests, you are nothing but...
Read moreThe property is rustic, and in some ways charming, but I think overpriced for what they deliver. We had a family reunion here and rented several cabins. Two of our families live in cooler climates so were concerned about the heat. At the time we rented, we were told Cabins 10 and 11 were air conditioned, but when we arrived discovered these were portable air conditioners in the loft only. The cabin was not air conditioned. It appears on the website they now indicate that none of their cabins have air conditioning, so perhaps they plan to remove the portable cooling units, and that may avoid any confusion with future guests. That being said, the cabins do cool down significantly during the night. We brought some additional fans of our own to supplement the small fans they had in each room, and we were glad we had them.
The website also described our cabin as "newly remodeled" but that's not what strikes you when you enter the cabin. They are rustic, and the furnishings are very 80's, which I think is part of the charm, but the towels feel cheap and well used, and bed linens are well used, threadbare, and need to be updated. I noted that we are not the first to note this in a review. Additionally, the mattresses felt like they also might need to be updated. My wife and I ended up sleeping in separate beds because we instantly rolled into the middle of a taco mattress that had virtually no shape or support. Our family in another cabin also ended up sleeping in separate beds because they said the mattress was "wedge shaped" and resulted in them constantly fighting not to sleep on top of one another through the night.
We had a plumbing issue in our cabin and our toilet began backing up into our shower. The front desk was very responsive, and the issue was resolved very quickly the same day. All in all, I wasn't bothered so much by the old bed sheets, the many cobwebs, the rustic charm, and the requests to clean up after ourselves as much as I felt like we paid four star prices for two star service and amenities. The week before we stayed at Arizona Mountain Inn and Cabins, we spent a week in Park City, Utah, where for less than our daily rate here, we enjoyed a two bedroom condo in an upscale ski hotel, with king size beds, premium linens, updated kitchen, two luxury bathrooms, luxury amenities, daily housekeeping on demand, thick, plush towels, access to a swimming pool and gym facility, etc. etc. If you're going to ask your guests to take out their own garbage, clean up after themselves, haul their dirty linens back to you to exchange them, then that should be reflected in the price you're charging. This felt more like an Air BnB than a mountain resort but the price implied a level of service and amenities that I don't think is being delivered.
If you're looking for a rustic, better-than-camping, experience, with no frills, this place delivers, but I don't think we'll come back at the current...
Read moreMy wife and I came up to Arizona Mountain Inn & Cabins for a small getaway. Living in the valley, the weather is never as fun as up north in Flagstaff. For our stay, we rented the Honeymoon Cabin (#5) from Sunday to Tuesday. Being winter out, I requested a couple bundles of firewood for the cabin for our arrival.
Checking in: Extremely easy and quick. The customer service was spot on and the website was easy to navigate/book our room. When I had a few questions, I was able to call and immediately get my answers addressed.
The Cabin: The cabins are simple and relaxing. Our cabin was unique from the others because it included a jacuzzi tub and is rated as their honeymoon cabin. Upon entering the cabin it was the perfect temperature and two bundles of wood were already inside so I could make a fire in the fireplace.
Pros: This place is really relaxing and encourages you get to focus on the important things in life. There is not a TV in the cabin and I do not think there are TV's in any of the cabins. This promotes social interaction which humans seem to have lost in this tech crazy world. Cozy - the cabin was simple and cozy. We liked the bedsheets that were very comfortable along with the pillows. The jacuzzi tub - this thing was awesome! The tub was plenty big and it was nice to be able to watch the fire while relaxing in the tub. Arizona Mountain inn's is located just outside of town and away from the loud noises. However, it is only a few minute drive to town (5 - 10 minutes) and there is a gas station 1 minute down the road.
Cons: The shower curtain + shower. The jacuzzi was an addition to the cabin and they are tight for room. Due to this, they installed an overhead shower. The showerhead was not necessarily the problem, but the curtain was. It was extremely difficult to shower without the curtain being all over since it completely surrounds you. I am not sure how to solve this issue besides get a wide top for it that would keep the shower curtain from being pulled inwards. I am not a fluffy guy (6' and 180lbs) and I got quite frustrated with the silly shower curtain. HOWEVER, the solution to this problem is simple... use the jacuzzi and not the shower!
Overall, we loved our stay at Arizona Mountain Inn and will certainly come back for another weekend getaway. The cabin was clean and the price was quite fair for what we got in return. Thank you for the great...
