As Dale Cooper once said in regard to the ideal hotel, "A clean place, reasonably priced." and that is just what I got with one of the rooms here. The cabins looked neat, and if I was coming with a group that would probably be ideal, but all I needed was a place to rest up and clean off. There was even coffee.
Now if you're the kind of person who needs all the extra stuff that drives up the price (complimentary breakfast, pool, etc.) then there's Best Western down the road, but that ain't me. When I'm on the west coast, I only want to be at the hotel when I need to sleep.
Now they do have a neat little fire area with a grill if you want to get some friends together. I didn't use it, but noticed many of the guests did.
I would say the only potential drawback was that the walls are quite thin. I felt like I could hear every moderate level conversation my neighbors had pretty well. The hotel does provide ear plugs, and my neighbors at least respected the noise ordinance prescribed by the hotel, so it was never an issue for me. But also on a comfy king-sized bed after a day of hiking, I was generally out like a light anyhow.
Speaking of, I really liked the lights they used in the rooms. I think they call them Edison bulbs? The general decoration of the room wasn't really my vibe, sort of a masculine "Live Laugh Love" shtick, but I didn't really notice it after day 1.
Bath, shower, toilet all worked well. Plenty of towels. The soaps and shampoos and such are all dispensers rather than disposable minis, which I prefer as it's more environmentally friendly. Also their heating system has an eco setting, so two points for eco-friendly there. If they installed solar panels on the cabins they could bill themselves as a green friendly lodging I reckon.
Oh, and if you're a veteran or active duty military, they fly the Navy and Marines flag just under the American Flag in the middle of the property, so patriots welcome.
I can't think of any real complaints, except maybe the door was a little hard to close and engage the secondary lock sometimes, but it gave the room character more than anything.
If I ever traveled to Florence again, I would almost certainly pick this place!
My one picture I took at the hotel was a group of chickens in the backyard, which I...
Read moreThe reservation process went well. We reserved a cabin approximately 7 weeks before we arrived - 3 nights for 4 people in the Orca Cabin. I received the confirmation email immediately after and everything was correct. Then, the week of arrival I received a reminder confirmation email that did not reflect what was previously confirmed. It still had the same confirmation number, but it showed only two nights in the ORCA cabin and an additional King Room in the motel. I called, and they promptly corrected it, sent me a new correct confirmation email, and I thought everything would be fine. We arrived about 4:30 PM on a Friday to check-in and were apologized to because there had been a mix-up with the cabins and ours had been given away to someone else. They offered a different cabin and gave us 30% off our stay. We agreed to it since all the cabins have the same footprint and finished the check-in process. When we arrived at the cabin, we discovered the fireplace didn't work and one of the dining room chairs was broken. Also, after looking at the receipt closer we noticed it showed only 2 nights instead of 3. We went back to the front desk to let them know about the fireplace, dining room chair, and the mix-up in the number of nights for our stay. They charged us full price for the extra night, made a note about the fireplace and chair, and then we resumed our weekend activities. The stay was otherwise enjoyable. A week after we returned home, we noticed on our credit card statement we were charged a third charge of over $500!! We promptly called the Park Motel and Cabins and were told they would investigate it and get back to us. A couple of days went by with no return call and no credit on our credit card. Called again and were told they'd have to have the general manager call us back, but no time frame was offered for when that would happen. Another couple of days went by with no return phone call, so we called again. This time we were told the general manager had been out all week but would be back in tomorrow. Tomorrow came and went with still no return call and no credit applied to our credit card. It's now been a week since the initial phone call regarding the extra charge on our credit card and still...
Read moreWe only needed to stay one night during our excursion down the Oregon coast and into California, so I booked an "economy" room with a king bed. The motel is older but pretty well maintained. It has had some updates and is solid and most importantly, clean. It was acceptable but unfortunately not as comfortable as we expected. Outside there were bright lights on a string attached along the eaves of the roof. The room had blackout drapes but the light still bled through, interfering with our sleep. The bathroom was extremely small. The shower was only about 3/4 the average size, and when you stood in front of the bathroom sink your butt was actually in this shower.
The king bed was very firm, too firm for our taste. I think the padded carpet might have been softer. From other reviews, it seems the bed quality varies from room to room. Some people absolutely loved the bed in their room, while others agreed with us that it was too hard.
On the positive side, I really liked the convenience of parking right in front of our room. That made loading/unloading luggage a lot easier. People who had off road UTV/bikes were able to keep a close eye on their machines. The room has pleasant, so long as you like the rustic look as it was all solid wood panels. I thought it was good. There was a small refrigerator, microwave, and Keurig machine for coffee. The flat screen tv hung on the wall but I felt it was intrusive. I'm not quite 6 foot and I had to be careful not to hit it when walking around the foot of the bed. And those walls are thin, we were able to hear our neighbors but it was not intrusive. Apparently this is a big enough problem that they have a sign on the wall reminding you to keep your TV sound down and to speak softly. They also provide disposable ear plugs. It might be better to just upgrade the walls during the next remodel.
Overall, this was a clean, pleasant little motel and depending on the room you end up with your stay could be more restfull than ours. It was okay for one night but I couldn't stay in this particular room...
