Nice wooded park, playground and athletic field, walking trail, basic campsites.
We camped one night. Water at some sites, but was extremely murky white, almost like skim milk white, so we didn't use it not even to wash dishes, had brought a 5 gal jug of our own. No electricity at any of the sites, not for RVs. About 40 campsites, only about 10-12 parking spots? One way road, a little parking along it, you don't get to park at your site, have to find a spot and walk in all your stuff. Our site was almost level, got a flat spot for the tent. Table and fire ring with grill attachment, lantern pole. 2 restrooms. Closest restroom to us was a few minutes walk, up a very steep hillside with stairs. Single stall per gender bathroom with flushing toilet and sink. At the other end of the park, almost too far to walk from our site, they had a another single stall per gender bathroom with basic shower in each. Did have hot water. But we didn't know there was a shower (their website doesn't have hardly any details about camping) so we didn't bring towels or anything.
Probably would not camp here again, but a nice little getaway for a day trip to picnic or let the kids play on...

Helton Nature Park was a pleasure to visit, and I look forward to returning soon. It's a gorgeous park with many amenities. The bathrooms were among the nicest park bathrooms I've seen, including state and national parks. A pavilion, covered playground, picnic tables and campsites with water make it a great place to visit if you're looking for some R&R.
If you enjoy a good walk there's a paved road to follow but there are also natural areas to discover. It was here that I saw the San Antonio River in its natural state for the first time. It didn't look like it would be pleasant to swim in.
Watch for poison ivy and wild boars, among other typical Texas dangers. Wear sunscreen or a hat since the park is not entirely shaded though a good...
Β Β Β Read moreI gave it 1 star because My wife and I have been going there since 2020. We live about 1.5 miles away and like to ride our UTV out there in the afternoons. We take a 30 min walk around the park and then go home. Yesterday evening we were in our routine riding to the park for our walk. The park host saw us and followed us and said "nice Unit" I said thank you. He said don't ever bring it back to the park. He also said "I might entice young kids to bring there units". My UTV is placarded with the slow moving triangle, I follow the speed limit and park it in a parking spot just like a car. I did not argue with him... I have been looking for the park rules that says no UTV's allowed as there were no signs anywhere on the grounds or at the entrance. Can the Park Host make his own rules as he sees...
