DOG RULES NOT ENFORCED. Had a really ubfortunate experience. It is a beautiful campground, before we came to camp we spoke to a ranger about our concerns regarding our dog agreasive dog. We were assured all dogs are required to be on leash at all times no exceptions. On our second day there we had just finished moving to a nicer "premium" spot for $45 vs $35 for non premium. Less than 10 minutes after we pay for and move all our stuff some guy walks up in our camp ground with his two off leash dogs. I tell him multiple times to get his dogs and he doesn't even acknowledge me until they charge my dog and my dog lunges at them (she is on leash in our campground) after that happened my Friend explained to him how that is unacceptable and unbelievable . He begins to yell at us for policing him, insulting us that we are loud and talk to much, only issues brought up after he was "trying to be nice to us". We ask him to please leave,Ready to move On from that unpleasant experience. He comes back less than ten minutes later to our campground AGAIN. He says we wants to apologize for his dog and my friend explains the behavior of his dog is understandable but the issue is what happened after the fight happened, the anger , yelling and random insults. He then looks to my Boyfriend and asks "does she ever listen" and then proceeds to tell us the unwritten rules are important too and lists a long list of conplaints, we keep asking him to leave our campsite but he would not. We ended up packing up our camp and leaving because we no longer felt safe. I was scared to be alone at camp, I was scared to go to the river I was scared to take my MUZZLED dog anywhere due to this mans behavior and attitude we are still waiting to find out if we can get our $45 we paid for our spot that we never stayed at back. Our whole camping trip was ruined, we were upset and had to leave, he got to just keep walking around with his dogs off leash. I really wished all the patrolling wardens would enforcs the dog rules, especially if you are going to be on my Campsite. What you do on your campsite isn't my business but if you are in common areas or in someone else's camp . We did talk to the host before leaving but he pretty much just said sorry, the man was not talked to or told to put his dogs on leash or stay out of others campground! YOUR DOGS NEED TO...
Read moreBeautiful scenery, easy access for fishing and swimming to the Eel River via a trail near the camp host entrance. We Stayed in site 14, the sites on the inside of the first loop are very close together and when my family arrived there wasn’t anyone else around at first so figuring out which picnic table went to which spot was a little confusing but was able to manage the correct configuration. Campground is right next to US 101 so noise is a slight factor but wasn’t for me, Garberville is only about 10 minutes north if you need to pick up groceries or other supplies you may have forgotten. The fire rings are super tall so enjoying a camp fire is lackluster once it starts to die out but made for excellent cooking without a stove. Watch out for poison oak, it’s kept away from the main walkways and the campsites but still lingers around some of the trees and brush. Overall it was a great experience,...
Read moreA popular and nicely groomed car camping run by California state parks. The bathrooms and showers are with plumbing. The hot water is 50 cents for a couple minutes. The staff come by on a golf cart and offer to sell bundles of firewood for $8. It's worth the deal - it's very well seasoned wood. hanging out on the beach of the South fork eel river is a great way to spend time. The water is clear & wonderful temperature this time of year. lots of people enjoying the water but it's a big enough river that it doesn't feel crowded period. If you felt like it, bring along your inner tube or raft or inflatable kayak or whatever and enjoy paddling around - the current is gentle & doesn't sweep you along. Just one note - the campsite is basically under highway 101, but the highway is banked for a turn and if you stay in the first two loops of the campground it'll be much quieter than if you pick a place out on...
