What a fantastic place to spend a long weekend! The service at this place is top-notch and the staff is very friendly and attentive. You are definitely pampered well here.
The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable with a lot of small, thoughtful touches.
Breakfast is spectacular in presentation and delicious in taste. You can have it downstairs or have it delivered to your room.
At night they bring out these very cool redwood boxes at 5:30, each one has a nameplate matching your room. They contain a small three-course meal for each of the guests. It is almost enough to pass for a full dinner (and more than enough for my wife). Again, the presentation is just spectacular and everything was delicious. In addition, they go out of their way to determine your food requirements or dislikes and will tailor each box specifically for you.
There's a deck with a beautiful view behind the Inn with a couple of bird feeders and a bird bath and there is lots of activity in those plus beautiful landscaping and the ocean out in front of you.
There's some short but very nicely done trails that run through the wooded area below the deck taking you down to the main road. If you cross that main road, there's a nice walk along the bluffs to a spectacular lookout area where many scenes from movies have been filmed looking across the water at Mendocino.
The downstairs has a very large dining area that can be used for lunch, dinner or cocktail hour. The furniture is beautiful mission style oak . There are game tables with a giant Scrabble board, a huge DVD library with a iPad mini showing all of the titles that can be searched in a variety of ways. (We picked a couple of movies that were filmed in Mendocino.)
The only downside for some travelers may be there is no bell service or elevator. So if you have heavy bags you do have to take them up stairs. I don't think that's an issue for most but should be noted.
They also have a very nice massage pavilion that apparently is new. Beautiful ceiling on the inside. We did do massages there and they were very enjoyable. Soft touch. No deep tissue or firm work available but...
Read moreOur stay was very disappointing. Even though our booking was prepaid, we were charged again at check-in, and the staff repeatedly told us to contact Expedia instead of resolving the issue themselves. The matter was only addressed by them and they reached out to refund me after we returned home, which was extremely frustrating.|Additionally, our 4:30 pm spa appointment was cancelled without proper notice, we were celebrating my partner’s birthday, but unfortunately, the experience was ruined. Another dissapointment was that my dietary request to avoid red meat was completely ignored when dinner was served.|The only positive was the gentleman at the bar during wine hour, who genuinely understood guest service. Overall, this is not the kind of experience you would expect for a special occasion, and future guests should be aware of these issues.|Rooms: The rooms are poorly equipped, they don’t even have a fridge in the room . The windows don’t close properly in the evenings, the restroom blinds are in need of maintenance, and the shower is leaking.|Food & drinks: The property does not offer any in-house services beyond the morning breakfast and early evening meal. If you get hungry around 8:30 PM, I would recommend keeping some snacks on hand, though note that the rooms do not have a mini fridge|Noteworthy details: The staff here clearly need better training. The next day, we visited Harbor House Inn, and the service was impeccable in comparison. The Brewery Gulch Inn staff seem completely unaware of how a hospitality business...
Read moreWe’re 83, and that may shape our perspective. Our room was up three flights of stairs with no elevator—challenging for older guests. I’d requested an ocean view to bring my wife to her happy place, but the windows were small and didn’t offer much Ocean. The room was clean, but very small, with a single sink, low-profile toilet, and a step-in tub/shower with no grab bars—safety concerns for any age. There were no drawers, minimal furniture, and poor lighting. A wireless phone charger was a nice touch.|The grounds have potential but were difficult to walk, with uneven terrain and no handrails at the spa entrance. The front entry had embedded stones, making rolling luggage tough. Thankfully, the receptionist kindly carried our bags upstairs—staff were consistently helpful and kind. Breakfast was good, especially the fresh-squeezed orange juice. The server, Victor excelled. Dinner served in a box with no menu options. A small deck with free wine and fresh air was pleasant, if lacking shade.|We enjoyed watching Acorn Woodpeckers and appreciated the games and DVDs. On our third night, we were moved to a nicer room on the main floor with a better bathroom. I opened the unscreened windows. Nothing crawled in. The small candles for nighttime ambiance were lovely.|Overall, the staff were the highlight, but the facility didn’t match the price point. We likely won’t return, but I’m not angry—just sharing our experience in hopes it helps the...
