A researcher by trade, I did my homework. I became interested in the idea of a getaway from the extreme hustle and bustle of the big city (I live in Atlanta) on a whim-bogged down by a myriad of things that the metropolis life can bring. More or less interested in experiencing, to borrow a phrase from the farm itself, "a step back in time", I happened upon the least of my initial state searches, Ft Payne, AL. I searched what I believe to be 1,000 or more such places and I can tell you with utmost assurance that if any of this sounds familiar, you've reached the conclusion to your search.
The entry to the farm will sell you in an immediate fashion. The majestic rock formations sprouting from the Earth itself along with the presence of their painfully domestic goats (so cool) brings on a wonderfully strange feeling of being "home".
This is the point where you are blessed with meeting the patrons of the farm, Randy and Sandy. The exchange is warm, easy, and at times, comical. While easily engaging, the husband and wife team are also noticeably passionate about the work that they have done and continue to do. They take time to ask about you. Where you are from, what you do. They explain what you are about to be a part of with the kind of fervor that makes you even more excited to be embarking upon the otherwise run-o-the-mill getaway that many of us sorta expect. Hint: It's better.
Then comes the cabin itself. Quiet, secluded. The simple, yet complex architectural feel (given the lack of modern construction machinery for the time) that is 100% historically authentic. Why? Because it is, literally. It beckons thoughts to those long gone. How they lived. Decorated with relics of the past, it has the feel of a museum mixed with resort living. Modern amenities abound for today's creature comforts (I ain't gonna lie, the hot tub is pretty awesome). The home provides everything you need to get the best out of your vacation.
For me, I looked at the various tourist attractions available (and yes, there are many, the town of Ft Payne itself is definitely worth a look) but found that with the pond for fishing, the cattle that adjoin that spot, the afore mentioned goats and your rented spot, there was no virtual reason to leave the premises. It's that good.
In closing, I can only say that I regretfully write this because I selfishly want to know that I have found a spectacularly perfect destination and want to know that it's "my little secret", but it's too great to be treated in such a way. Do yourself a favor and book your vacation here as soon as humanly possible. I know I am already planning...
Read moreI love this place!! Hands down the most beautiful cabin I've ever stayed in, and I've been to quite a few in my day. The cabin we stayed in, as I'm sure all the cabins on the property are, hand built. They are mainly made from pine wood which has been sealed or treated with polyurethane. It is just stunning in my opinion. I'm sure there were plenty of blood, sweat, and tears poured into building these cabins and it definitely shows! The land is gorgeous. There are goats in a pasture across the way that you can pet/feed, but fair warning.. they do tend to be a bit gruff đ.. there's a small play area in the pasture with the goats for kids to slide down a large black tube slide which was really cool, my son loved it! I believe you would be welcome to bring ATV's for riding on the property as well (Of course, you would want to ask permission prior to doing so), as there's an abundance of that as far as you can see, fields and woods all around. It's very peaceful and relaxing. We got lucky I feel, it was my birthday weekend we had waited until the last minute and had honestly been having a not so great start to the birthday weekend. We didn't have much of a plan in stone and nothing was working out. I suggested we call Bear Creek Log Cabins. They had the largest cabin available for two nights and that was all she had. We knew right then it would be out of reach price wise but she offered to cut us a deal last minute due to the prior arrangements falling thru for her and us needing to make new ones. So she worked a deal to accommodate us with a decent rate that we could swing for two nights. Needless to say, I'm so thankful she did and I would love it if she did again đ.. otherwise, we probably couldn't afford it. It had many bedrooms, four I believe and two baths. There's a large hot tub on the screened back deck that's like heaven! There were two screened in back decks. A fireplace cathedral ceilings and all the most beautiful wood work all around you. I would give anything to go back and stay again! It was a great memory for sure and definitely plan to go back to make more! I highly recommend...
Read moreMy second time coming here. Came last year and stayed at Jacey's Cabin. Requested same cabin this time. It's beautiful and peaceful here. Previous 2 vacations we traveled to East Tennessee to stay in mountain cabins. While they were very nice, they lack the authenticity of a real authentic cabin feel. Most were cabin kit cabins. I've not been back to East Tennessee since discovering this hidden gem of a place. Same mountain vacation experience but the prices here are not outrageous like everywhere else. The price is right which allows you to enjoy going out and shopping or whatever without being concerned about going over that vacation budget. The main thing I search for in a cabin is being surrounded by woods and seclusion. There are 6 cabins in this area and each cabin feels like it's own little private getaway. Can't see other cabins. I didn't go to the fishing pond last year but I did this time. It's walking distance from the cabins and it's lovely and peaceful. The owners never bother you and the cabins have little things stocked for coffee and such which is nice in case you forget to bring something. There are many attractions very near by like waterfalls and hiking trails. It's just simply a beautiful peaceful experience and it's now "our go to" for yearly vacation. We will return every year we are able and hopefully always be able to stay in "our cabin". If not that's fine too, all the cabins are perfect. I don't know how well known this place is but I feel that it will only grow and grow in popularity for those looking for this specific type vacation because it lacks nothing. You won't find better hosts. They have heaven here and I know they know it. I always dread leaving. I'd stay right here in Jacey's Cabin forever and be happy till I die lol. To the owners: keep doing exactly what you're doing. Please never change...
