Great campground to avoid the crowds. The 3 mile dirt road was fine even for a typical lower clearance vehicle. Camping beside one of the huge organ pipe cacti was a blast. There are only 4 sites, and it's all first come first serve. The ranger told us it's never full, and typically you have the entire place to yourself (our case). Sites were well maintained, bathroom was surprisingly clean. Beautiful, gorgeous clear night skies with little light pollution. It was easy to stay up light stargazing because you could just see so much. Shooting stars were visible every few minutes. Overall, a great barebones campground for those who want to be out in nature and away from the RVs and generators.

Beautiful. Be prepared for bugs (would not sleep under a tarp here). Was alone on a weekday in mid-August, honestly not surprising considering that it was just a little too hot to sleep comfortably. Probably awesome in the winter. Bathroom was clean and had plenty of TP. Saw coyotes on the dirt road, so don’t leave food out. Also saw some pretty creepy lights that I assume have some border patrol purpose just to the north. Bored CBP agents questioned me twice in the monument (in <24 hrs). Not a knock to the campground, just that make-work program.

A place of magic waits for you. Lay back when the sun goes down, the vermillion border over the western mountains will entrance you, and the stars and Milky Way light up the night. This kind of bliss heals the soul. Wake up with a coyote ranging his territory. Take your tripod. There is no water or electricity at this camp. Take your wet naps and a bottle of water to brush your teeth.

We had a wonder 4 nights here in early February. The trail to the old corral is only about 1.5 miles, but if you head up the North fork of the creek from there, its another 2 or 3 miles, at least. of an adventurous and beautiful hike. We also went "overland" to the old Copper Mountain mine site. Sunsets are amazing and if you have some good binoculars, you may see mountain sheep on the cliffs above you (look for little white dots). There are only 4 sites, so you need to book well ahead. They are well spaced and we had no problems with noise, etc. Hikers drive in for day trips, but it is worth it to stay the night. When we went (Feb 2023) the park was allowing truck/campers and vans to reserve and camp - but no trailers no matter the size. There is a clean outhouse but no water. We will...
