We had a truly wonderful stay at the farm. The location is very unique, off the beaten path and beautiful. The Treehouse casita was well appointed, cozy and private and the staff were friendly, unassuming and unpretentious. Raven went out of her way to make our experience memorable, in particular when she opened up the chicken coop and let or son play with the chickens and the chef (we didn't get her name!) made us nice meals and tasty baked goods and snacks. The trees weren't producing any stone fruit yet (which we knew would be the case), but thee was a lot of fresh citrus on site and the orchards were still nice to stroll through. There are so many birds and butterflies and bees as well.
The canyon itself is remarkable and as an Arizona native I can't believe it took me 36 years to check it out. I'm not sure what any other years look like in April, but this year the wildflowers were unbelievable. Walking through the canyon was like being in a curated botanical garden. The plants were so varied and diverse and interesting. I definitely recommend getting permits for the wilderness area because that hike was the highlight of our trip and it made the following day of relaxing, taking strolls and swimming in the pool well deserved. With a 3.5 year old, we made it about 3.5 miles into he canyon and that was far enough to see the high canyon walls and a pack of coatimundi jumping around and playing. I did have to carry him for a lot of the journey and you are walking in the river for a good portion of the hike, but it wasn't hard by any means and it's really a world class hike.
If you are looking for a real escape from a hectic life, some time to unwind and connect with real wild nature while maintaining a high level of comfort this is a perfect spot. We really enjoyed our weekend and will be...
Read moreOur stay at Aravaipa Farms Orchard and Inn over MLK weekend was truly out of this world: gorgeous desert scenery, secluded privacy, delicious food and outstanding service! We stayed in the Orchard Casita - it was the perfect amount of space for two adults, cozy but still spacious. The charming historic casita was sparking clean, full of lovely colorful artistic touches, and perfectly situated on the property for both privacy and orchard views. We had a front patio seating area where we enjoyed the delicious, home-cooked dinners cooked by the talented chefs at Aravaipa with farm-to-table ingredients. Our casita also had a beautiful stone hand-built fireplace, and came stocked with kindling and mesquite wood - so we enjoyed cozying up to the fire each night! The casita was equipped with a fridge, coffeemaker (plus coffee and tea) kettle, and toaster so it was easy for us to prepare snacks and lunches for our hikes. Plus, all beds and furniture were super comfy and clean, and the shower was wonderful after a long day of hiking! All staff members are warm, welcoming and helpful. (Thank you Kari, Tammy and Kelly!) Aravaipa has also established well-thought-out COVID precautions that made us feel totally safe. I can't recommend it highly enough! Great for hikers, or for people looking for a place to rest, relax, read and spend quality time together. The perfect getaway to disconnect, and for those seeking peace and reflection in a stunning...
Read moreAfter a business visit to Tucson, found this place for a short break in the mountains to the north of the city. An extraordinarily beautiful and peaceful Inn consisting of a series of small cottages each with its own terrace and equipped with modest kitchens adjacent to a working farm and orchard -- all just a few miles north of Biosphere2. The bedding was first class while the bath was simple but more than adequate. What was especially appealing was the Inn's kitchen which delivers a first-class, farm-to-table dinner directly to each cottage. The two young chefs responsible for the prep deserve accolades as good as any restaurant in the city. The Inn provides easy access to hiking and walks in the surrounding mountains and transitional desert landscape of Arizona's Aravaipa Creek wilderness area. Access to the Inn from the highway is easy on a wide sand/gravel road. Only caveat is that the stretch of road beyond the Inn that gives hikers the closest access to the renowned Aravaipa Canyon Wilderness Preserve is narrow and a bit steep - those not familiar with the rural West might best try using a guide to take you up and back, which can be arranged through the Inn. In sum, Aravaipa Farms Inn is a wonderful, reasonably priced altogether novel experience for...
