A few weekends ago we had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Flagstaff Nordic Center. For a while they've had the venue at the front of the center, but recently they opened up a more affordable option about a mile walk back on a nature trail next to the Sunflower and Columbine yurts. This space was provided with a 2 night stay in the yurts and the freedom to do whatever we wanted to the surrounding area for the wedding.

I've had a very mixed experience working with the Flagstaff Nordic Center during the last year planning our wedding ceremony. I didn't opt to spend thousands of dollars on a wedding planner and decided to do it myself instead so I was very involved with every part of the planning process. Initially we started working with Tuesde to set up the contract for the venue. Overall, she was spotty on emails (it would take about a month to hear back typically) and when I would call it would go to voicemail saying they weren't accepting calls as it was their busy time of year. This was pretty inconvenient when trying to plan a wedding in an area that they were just testing out and had a lot of logistics.

With the mile nature walk back to the venue, I knew that a majority of my family wouldn't want to or couldn't endure this. They offered to shuttle passengers from the front office back to the venue for a 15% additional service fee which we incorporated into our contract.

The day before our wedding we started some initial set up where Evan and another girl (not Tuesde, but I couldn't get her name) brought up tables, chairs, and helped move the portapotties. This girl seemed like she didn't want to help, that she didn't understand simple instructions, and that she was just eager to leave work. After they had moved both of the portapotties, my mother-in-law asked to have one moved by their yurt which they said they would move the next day. I tipped them and they left.

The girl came back the next day - there was another wedding going on in the front this day - she rudely asked where we wanted it because "it was the last time [she] was going to move it since it was going to take like 40 minutes". We discussed the shuttling service for later, which she seemed like she didn't want to do even though we paid extra for this service. Our guests found that there was a sign in the front office for the shuttle, stating that staff would return periodically from attending the other wedding to shuttle our guests. My mother-in-law voiced her concerns to this girl who kept smiling and trying to drive off as she was talking. Overall, very poor customer service from this girl in particular. We felt that our wedding was second to the wedding in the front of the venue and that our event was less important.

Evan was fantastic and is the reason for 3 stars. He was courteous and made sure our needs were taken care of even though his friends were getting married in the front venue. He took over shuttling services and helped out until 8:30 PM that night to get our guests safely back to their cars. If you are choosing to have a rustic forest wedding at the Mariposa Wedding area, I would request to work with Evan as your event will most likely go...

I would give 5 stars just for the really nice lady from the store or the beautiful scenery BUT the cabin was dirty, the place was not cleaned before our stay, even though they have a charge for the supposedly cleaning they do, with the covid situation one would expect to arrive to a place that was sanitized and cleaned, but rather than that the owner gives bad reviews over airbnb because you don't take your trash to the dumpster, even if they don't clean the road and you have to walk on a 6 inches snow just to put away your trash bags, which at least I put it together in a bag and left it for the person who suppose to clean (that's why they charge, to clean, right?) The grill was buried in snow, which i guess they did not clean before our arrival, no wood next to the cabin for us to use, they tell you there are more wood but guess what, you have to walk in a 10 inches snow just because they did not prepare your cabin before your stay. Definitely would never stay again at this place.

UPDATE: The owner never told me about ''ravens making a mess with the trash i left'' until i step up and took my valuable time and leave a long a$$ review, SO if you want to get covid, pay for cleaning charges when they never clean, then this is the spot for you. If you want to get some rest, enjoy your vacations, then get a hotel room.

PS. the restrooms are disgusting, you will have to clean the toilet before you are able to sit down or you will have take a dump above someone else feces

Just FYI, the reason why I'm very upset is because the owner is lying and ''the customer is always right'' does not apply to him, instead of being arguing like a little girl, accept your mistakes, offer a better experience the next time you stay and period. I did left my trash just because the cleaning fee i was charge for the dirty and nasty cabin i received.

Don't be cheap and pay a few extra bucks to get a way more comfortable...

My family and I visited here this past weekend and were very disappointed. The woman who helped us seemed pleasant and offered us a discount for the following day if we returned as we had planned. At the time we checked in we were given a trail map that was highlighted with the trails that had been groomed before one of their groomers got stuck; we were told the other groomer was not running. We headed out to ski and quickly realized that the "groomed" trails had at least 8 inches of fresh snow on them. I included a picture of their Prairie Dog trail that we were told was groomed as well as a stock photo of a well groomed trail for comparison. I also skied on the Deer and Wild Turkey trails that were also highlighted as groomed, that were in similar condition but had seen less traffic. When we were ready to leave I calmly spoke with the same woman at the desk that had checked us in and voiced our disappointment in the trail conditions and stated that it was not fair to have charged everyone full price for trail passes when they clearly weren't groomed. She was immediately, incredibly rude and argued with me that they were groomed and had "a little powder on top". She then stated "you know what...you don't need to come back tomorrow either". I was stunned. I've done a lot of nordic skiing, certainly enough to distinguish a groomed trail from one that isn't. You can no longer call your trials groomed if they are buried under eight or more inches of fresh snow. We spoke with several other experienced skiers there that day, one of which held a season pass to this facility, that all agreed that the trail conditions were terrible. It's a shame because the location is beautiful and has the potential to be an amazing nordic ski destination. That won't happen with out better management of the trail system and front desk employees that possess at least rudimentary customer...

If you’ve never snow-shoe backpacked into the back country to stay in a yurt, this is the place to go. For a more immersive and secluded experience, I only recommend the Morning Glory Yurt. The views from there are unparalleled; the others, unfortunately, are located directly on busy snow shoe and skiing trails. Seems like a mistake placing a “back county yurt” only 5 feet from busy trails, but what do I know? Our host informed us, prior to our arrival, that due to Covid or whatever the staff would be unable to clean the yurt before our visit, and we’d be expected to clean up after ourselves. No big deal, we’re respectful, functioning adults. But we arrived at our yurt to find the porta potty nearly overflowing, the ash bucket full, debris on the floor, and lots of uncovered yellow snow within 3 feet of the door. Pretty fucking gross that other grown humans would do that. But we buckled down, and despite an excessively smokey wood stove, we had the best time together. I’m willing to give ANV the benefit of the doubt with the overflowing toilet, ash bucket, and shitty stove, as long as they get their shit in order and visit the yurt, I dunno, like once a week? Just seems like that should be the bare minimum when temps dip into the teens and the oxygen flow to the stove gets blocked with ash and soot. But despite the flaws, our experience here was one we’ll never forget. We’d love to come back and do it again, with the assurance that our wood stove works and the shitter ain’t full 🤷🏼‍♂️
