Late June 2020, my husband and I scheduled a Hipcamp site called Basecamp 550 near Ridgeway/Ouray, CO. Showed up lost at 1PM when checkin started, lost to where to go to find site 1, called-no answer, went in the office-no answer, finally found a worker, that person told us to go to site one and that we didn't need to set up our tent because there was already one set up. I was like, I was under the impression I was setting up the tent tonight. She insisted. AMAZING. Glamping tent. With a BED. SHOCKED. Hadn't realized I had booked something this cool. Got a call 2 hrs later from the boss, after we'd unpacked, settled in, had a beer, made dreams and plans for the evening with our good fortune. Boss: "Um, you are in the wrong site; you must pack all your stuff back up and vacate." I let her know exactly what I thought as she commenced to say it was all our fault. I was so upset listening to this woman act like it was our fault that her other employee didn't know what she was doing, nor that she WASN'T AT CAMP AT CHECK-IN TIME, nor did she ANSWER THE PHONE WHEN I CALLED, nor DOES SHE TRAIN HER EMPLOYEES. And then while we were carrying stuff back and forth to the car in high elevation climate to and fro, the girl who originally helped us whizzed by on a 4-wheeler, pointed at a wagon, and said, "You could use that to pack up". I about lost it. No mind to the fact that you literally almost ruined our evening, and you didn't say anything about it. I mean, we were FUMING. Anyway, we didn't stay here at the other side (awfully sandwiched between 2 RV's on gravel) because we refused to give them our business, and I made that woman give us a refund and we got out of there. When I had signed us up there was a statement made that we'd be on grass, not between 2 RV's and thwir sewage hookup. There was a very small piece if grass with 5 tents already on it, spread about 2 ft apart....
Read moreUpdated. After my review, and the responses i recieved from basecamp550, i see things differently, from what i wrote below. I will change my review from 2 stars to 4 stars. I didn't see the working personal even though I thoroughly looked, but perhaps they went into town, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt.
Original review.. I would say the restrooms were clean as was my glamping tent, so, the place had a lot of potential, but it is very close next to the highway. Every car that goes by, you hear. Every Jeep and pick-up, you hear louder. And when a truck goes by, oh boy, it is very loud. I was even buffered by a stack of RVs and as far away from the road, that the camp offers. Their glamping tents. Very loud. You should also be aware that this is a contactless place. I looked all over for an employee because I had a question and there are no employees there. It would have been handy to have at least one person floating around making sure everything is safe and running well. They do not have anyone there. Lastly, I understand that rules are rules but I was not aware that cancellation policy is 7 Days in advance. To me that is pretty extreme considering there are unforeseen things that pop up sometimes when you are traveling. If you booked this place and try to cancel within 7 days, you are out of luck. I had an emergency pop up on me that I needed to leave my last night and I asked for a refund for that last night. No dice! Their policy is very strict on this. I ended up having to pay over $120 for a night that I wasn't even there due to an emergency back at home. If you stay here, make sure your plans are 100% solid and bring...
Read moreThis campground is a well thought out plan. It’s easily accessible to both Ouray and Ridgeway. It has a lovely clubhouse where there is a fully stocked kitchen, restroom, living room, complete with a record player to spin some tunes. It is decorated nicely with a lovely porch that overlooks a gorgeous meadow and the beautiful mountain range.
We camped in our Overlander. The site for us was small and parallel parking for short RVs like ours. There are larger sites for full on airstreams and large fifth wheels. There is an array of glamping tents available, and tiny houses. This campground sits on a beautiful Meadow with gorgeous views of the mountains.
They have separate bathrooms for men and women that have showers and restroom stalls. There are adequately appointed. They are cleaned on a regular basis and provide hand soap, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner.
The laundry facilities are excellent with new design washer, dryer combined units and a nice folding table. In the laundry room, you will find a dollar bill exchanger as you will need quarters for the shower and laundry.
There are plenty of trash receptacles around the property. They have high-speed Wi-Fi included with campsite. This campground offers a lovely outside kitchen area with barbecue grill, fish cleaning station and fire pit. The entire area is designed for community with open spaces to meet new friends. Everything is very clean and updated. We definitely will return...
