I had a nice 4 day stay here while attending an event in the area. The motel and property are a bit dated in some aspects of appearance and upkeep, however there a number of positives here as well.
Pluses:
I liked the location, a just a short drive from Monte Vista and about a 15 minute drive to Del Norte. The room and bathroom were clean. There were a few minor things like they could clean around one of the windows better, sheets had a couple of minor stains but were cleanly laundered so it didn't bother me. My second floor room had a window that faced the drive-in movie theatre lot and let in a lot of nice natural daylight during the day, but also drapes which would block out light when drawn Room lighting was ok, but could be brighter. Bathroom and sink lighting was good All of the front desk and housekeeping staff that I dealt with were friendly and helpful I really liked the room layout. The sink/mirror area had a large long counter to spread out items on. As one enters the room, on the right was the clothes rail with a lot of hangers, below it was a long raised counter for placing and opening luggage. It was easy to put things there and open them up -- often not the case in many of the other motels and hotels that I've stayed at. The breakfast area was clean, well provisioned, and the tables all had a great view of the outside mountains. They had all the usual Best Western breakfast items including fresh waffles, eggs, sausage, yogurt, breads, cereals, etc. I've stayed at a number of places offering included breakfasts, and I have to say Movie Manor does a great job. Parking seemed safe and secure Room seemed quiet, no road noise, no noticeable noise from neighbors
Minuses:
When I first entered the room there was a fairly strong odor which I couldn't identify. After being in the room for a while I didn't notice it. But if I left and came back later in the day I'd still notice something when entering, but not as strongly. I'm not sure if the odor was disappearing or I was just getting used to it. Other than the first time entering the room, it didn't bother me. I've had similar experiences in some other motels. The TV was placed in an odd position in the room relative to the bed which would seem to make it difficult to watch from the bed. I don't watch TV on trips, so it didn't bother me. Some parts of the floor seemed over creaky when walking I wasn't there for the drive-in movie experience, but I briefly checked out what it was like from my room. From my particular room I was unable to see either screen from bed, so I had to sit in front of the window using one of the table chairs. The screen is far enough away that it is pretty small and not a very high quality image. Seems to me kind of like an idea that once had it's place, before we could stream movies on our TV's, computers, and tablets. These days, not so sure. Your experience may vary.
Overall, I was pleased with my stay and would stay here again if...

I was excited to visit this hotel with my partner and our dogs because I've wanted to go for many years. The online booking site through Best Western, however, has "pet-friendly" room options with misleading photos. The pet-friendly rooms are actually in a totally separate annex building which is a decent walk from the main building. This means you don't have access to ice machines, the fitness center, etc. and the rooms do not face the movie screen. This was pretty sad to realize. I should have called ahead, but the front desk employee was pretty unapologetic and seemed annoyed by me asking further about it... I know they couldn't have changed the room because I'm sure these rooms are separated for cleaning standards, but I want anyone booking to know that the online photos and prices are not accurate.
The room was fine, however. Well-cleaned, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was alright. The value was alright for a pet-friendly room, but you can get equally good pet-friendly hotel rooms in better cities (Moab, Durango) for equal or less. Additionally, there's an extra $20 charge per pet for the pet friendly rooms! It is not the base price listed online. Again, I know I should have called ahead, but I don't think it's that hard to make sure your online prices and photos at least vaguely reflect what the actual rooms are like. The shower took forever to get warm but was spacious and clean. The room was kind of underlit. The wifi, however, was quite fast. The annex building has fewer rooms (only 6!) and has its own wifi which was speedy. The bathroom towels, though! Yikes! Those things are coarse and dry as sandpaper! I have never had such rough bathroom towels.
The COVID situation made it so the hotel breakfast so many people have complimented in reviews wasn't an option, which is alright, but I'd recommend Rain Brews in Monte Vista (5 minutes drive away) as an alternative! It's a pretty neat coffee shop with great drinks, good food, and a nice spacious environment inside with plenty of room for social distancing.
If you're not looking to bring your pets with you, I think this is a great hotel. Good value and a unique experience. Just make sure you call ahead to make sure your room has a movie view if that's what you want. I know I've complained a lot in my review but these are all pretty minor things for me, I've stayed in some wayyyyy worse hotels. Just wish the info online had been correct. Man, those towels...
Read moreMy wife, family and I have been staying at this hotel for years. We usually go and see a movie after camping to round out the whole trip. Up until what seems like the new owners, we have always enjoyed our stay. Our most recent room in the pet friendly annex building was awful. Previously I believe this building was employee housing but with the new owners is now part of the rooms available. It seems they did not renovate or even clean these rooms prior to offering them. The old pet friendly rooms were just part of the main building over looking the drive in screens. Starting with the odor of the room it reeked of pet urine and cigarette smoke. This wasn't too much of an issue to us and just asked for some deodorizer to neutralize the smell. However, the bottle they gave us was broken and unusable. We just shrugged this off and said oh well. We took the nozzle off the bottle and just dabbed it around the room a bit to hopefully help with the smell. The real issue came at night. The door of the room (room 131) sits too high with a large gap present at the bottom of the door. This allowed an absolute ton of beetles to infest our room while we were gone for the evening. After kicking out around 20 beetles we said okay we need to change rooms only to be told there were no more rooms available and we could speak to a manager in the morning. So we sucked it up in hopes of getting our bill knocked down due to the conditions. This is not what happened. The "manager" was not there in the morning and we were told the "manager" would contact us about this issue the next day. Surprise surprise the "manager" has yet to contact us directly. The main Best Western office was hardly any help. So after all of this headache we still do not have much of a resolution besides 40 bucks worth of points. In better terms we paid almost full price for a room that smelt like pet piss/smokers den and was infested with beetles. Even the customer relations individual we spoke to wouldn't respond if she would stay in this room. All in all if you like rooming with beetles and enjoy the intoxicating smell of nicotine and piss this is the...
