My partner and I were traveling from Alta, Wyoming with limited cell phone service. While he drove I was searching for a place to stay the night. I found your lodge and it looked wonderful! I tried booking online, but kept losing cell service, so I decided to call your guest service number. I called twice, 12:34 p.m. and 1:03 p.m. and left a message to call me back, you should have a record of this. No one ever returned my call. Eventually, I was able to book the stay once I got cell service. I received confirmation both by email and text message from your lodge. I was unable to do the self check in because of lack of cell service. Once again, I called your lodge for assistance and got voicemail, so I left a message to call me back and no one ever did. We continued on to your lodge knowing we at least had confirmation of our stay. We arrived at around 9 p.m. The place was very dark, poorly lit, hard to find where the entrance was. We searched around the property and we saw a car with headlights on at another house nearby, so we thought that was the lodge. We drove there and by the time we got there the car was gone. So we drove back to the other place and continued to search. We did see one car parked in the lot. We walked up some stairs and saw some lights on in a room, so we knocked on the door. A woman answered so we thought she was an employee. She said no, that she was a guest also. We apologized for bothering her, and asked her where the entrance was. She assisted us finding the entrance. Finally we were inside, however, we didn't have a room code to get into our room. At 9:34 pm I texted your number and asked for the code. No one answered. We got the password to get into your internet to finally get the code to unlock our room. What an ordeal! we were exhausted! We had a good night's rest and loved the lodge! The next morning I went out into the social area and saw the woman who had helped us. She was glad to see we had gotten into our room. When the kitchen opened she left and a short while later she came back and told me to come see something downstairs. I followed her and she took me outside the door and showed me where an envelope was clipped beside the door. My name was on the envelope and inside was the room code. Unfortunately, we never saw this letter because it was too dark and not on the door. As I was reading the message your employee, before identifying herself, became verbally abusive accusing me of bothering the other guest who had helped us. She scolded me for arriving so late, 9 pm. She said check in was 3 pm. She said she tried calling me back several times. I said I never received any call backs. When I asked what number she called she said xxx-xxx-xxxx. She blamed me for entering the wrong phone number. How could I have received automated text messages and emails unless I entered the correct phone number. Your employee must have entered the incorrect number when she tried calling me back.
I received an automated request to rate my stay with 10 being excellent. I replied with 1 mainly because of the hassle we had getting into our room and the rude staff. The lodge itself was amazing! Loved the decor! Loved the area! The room was clean and the bed was comfortable! I would have rated the stay 10, but because of the staff and difficulty with communication, I would not recommend this place to anyone, nor would...
Read moreI first stayed at the Ranch in 2009, when I believe the new owners had just recently acquired it from the previous owners. I had an amazing time there. The ranch was beautiful, the location is simply magical - so many wonderful hikes to explore - and the people working there were welcoming, friendly and helpful. I only had great memories from my stay there in 2009. This year I planned another trip to Southern Utah to celebrate my birthday and since I'd be in the area, I thought I'd stop by the Ranch again. I was expecting to enjoy staying there but wow, was I impressed! They have improved it so much since my first stay years ago. My friends and I stayed in the Cowboy Tent and were so happy with it, especially considering the price! The beds were very comfortable, the tent was very clean and warm and had an amazing view. The outdoor 'live" shower surrounded by plants was such an incredible experience! They've built a great garden by the main ranch house and I loved knowing that most of the food I was eating was fresh and coming straight from the garden. Oh and the food! The Sweetwater Restaurant surpassed my expectations. I had read online reviews saying how good the food so I knew the restaurant had improved a lot since my first stay - but I honestly didn't expect it to be that good! My friends and I had a 5-star gourmet experience in the middle of the desert. Very creative dishes with amazing flavours. It was an incredible dinner, we were all so impressed. We went hiking to the Calf Creek waterfall and to the "100 hands" petroglyphs, both hikes were amazing and very close to the ranch. To conclude, my experience staying there again this year was even better than I had expected. The owners have done an amazing job over the past few years, it was very clear how much work and love they have put into the Ranch. I'd recommend this place to anyone going through the Boulder Mountain area - families, couples, individuals. And thank you to the staff of Boulder Mountain Guest Ranch for making my stay so pleasant once more. I will...

Pros: It was reasonably priced but not cheap. Clean. Pretty location. Very cool metalwork in the common room.
Cons: Room 4 should be converted to a broom closet. It’s that small, its windows don’t open nor even let in light because if they did open it would be to a dining area. The hot and cold knobs are reversed in the shower (another reviewer mentioned this a year ago, hasn’t been addressed). No AC, it has a rolling swamp cooler but come on, we’re not there for the humidity. Room 4 is right off the common room so if anyone is getting coffee or water at the very minimal breakfast station, you can hear every word of their conversation, and they can hear your every sound. (We heard the owner giving a tour to a prospective renter for an event; she gave him a tour of the place, beeped that every guest is like family, etc. We got no tour; we were not shown to our room; basically, we were ignored by what few staff we saw, so perhaps her family is dysfunctional.) The code to unlock the room is 0404 — and we heard other guests remarking that every room has the same protocol, so once you figure that out you could enter any room in the lodge. Oh, the security!
The restaurant wasn’t open for us mere guests when we were there, only for participants in an event, so we got superb take-out from the Hell’s Backbone Grill food truck and dined on the deck. The owner came up to us and said, with consummate solicitousness, “Oh, we could get you something from the kitchen!” … when she could see we already had obviously full plates.
Feels more like an event venue, not so welcoming to travelers staying a few nights. My advice: just spend the money and stay at Boulder Mountain Lodge in town (owned and operated by Hell’s Backbone Grill). Based on the service we experienced at Hell’s Backbone Grill, they really understand how to treat customers. The Guest...
