Camp Dick is an amazing campground! I went for the first time this weekend and stayed in spot 3 down by the water. It was absolutely gorgeous and I woke to a moose 10 feet from my tent. The facilities are well-maintained and the bathrooms are clean. I stayed with a group of about 15 people and had an overall amazing time.
That said, I took off one star for the behavior of the camp manager. My group camped in the walk-in spots (1-4). The camp manager was the only other party within the vicinity of us. We were all sitting around the campfire at about 11:00 when someone walked up to us screaming and holding a flashlight in our faces. We had no idea what was going on. As it turns out, the camp manager was mad that we were still awake at 11:00. She was yelling that curfew was at 10:00 and that we should have read the signage. We responded with that we were sorry, but we were just sitting around talking (no music or partying) and didn't realize that behavior was in violation of any policy/hurting any other campers. She responded with screaming at us again saying that we could either put out our fire and go to bed immediately or leave the campsite.
This was completely uncalled for. Again, we were all just sitting around the campfire talking. Her behavior would have been acceptable if she already told us once to keep it down or if other campers had complained. I felt humiliated that someone was telling me that I HAD to go to bed immediately. It was in the upper 30s so we were all just huddled by the fire getting warm and chatting.
Overall, though, everyone else working on-site was incredibly hospitable. Firewood was available for purchase on-site for $5 a bundle, which was nice to have. The views at Camp Dick are breath-taking (way better than Peaceful Valley). I would highly recommend a spot by the water (though maybe avoid the crabby host in site 6 if you don't want to be told when you have...
ย ย ย Read moreSuch an amazing campground! We stayed here for 2 nights with our toddler and 2 dogs and couldn't have been any happier with our experience. The campground manager was so friendly and informative. We had a miscommunication with her thinking I had said this was our first time camping ever, but it was actually our first time camping at that location. She went into so many details about bear safety, tips ans gave us the run down of the site. All with such a friendly attitude which is saying something bc I'm sure she has to repeat herself often! Then, shortly after we started setting up, she stopped by worried bc we were expecting some rain. We knew this and had everything we needed but the fact that she stopped by was so sweet! The creek was stupid close to our site, like 1 minute walking and you're right there. It was gorgeous... oddly, the part that stuck with me was their bathrooms. I have NEVER EVER seen camping bathrooms so well maintained with ZERO odor! They had room fresheners and dryer sheets hanging along with fly strips and it was actually pleasant using them. That shows how much the campground managers care! Will absolutely, 100%, MOST DEFINITELY be back next year and for 3 nights...
ย ย ย Read moreGreat campground! Visited mid Oct as this was one of the only campsites still open for the season. No hookups for RVs, but vault toilets are available and were very clean when we visited. Water was already shut off for the season. Camp host appeared to be hired by a company and wasn't saying onsite but visited daily and had some firewood for sale. Sites on the exterior of the road are spaced out well, however sites inside the loop road have no shade and are very exposed. Traffic to the trail head can also be slightly annoying depending on your site. Note trash pickup is around 6:30am on Thursdays.....so if you are close to a dumpster be ready for some noise. Bear boxes are available at all sites. Lots of great hiking all over / around the camp. Bugs (gnats) were bad in the afternoon. We'll be back but will look for a site away from the dumpsters and away from traffic going to/coming from the trail...
