On a family trip with my wife and little girls this summer, we found camp rio while just passing through and decided to stop and see if there was a tent space available for us. Fortunately it was midweek and there was! The staff was very accommodating and allowed us to choose a very charming little spot by the creek. It was perfect! Needless to say an overnight ended up being 3 nights. We fished in the creek, rode bikes and really enjoyed meeting others who were regulars at the camp. There was a campfire ban that was lifted in our second day and we were also really excited that we got to cook over the fire and roast some marshmallows. The owners were also very accommodating and friendly and made us feel like family. We wish we could’ve stayed longer but instead we’re just looking forward to next summer! This camp is now on our family’s summer itinerary and we hope to be able to return with an RV next year. If not, we still have our tents:)

BEWARE the cabin should get 0 stars. Jay and the woman that lives in the trailer beside the office are both terrible to work with. The check-in process for the cabins wasn’t secure. Our keys were just hanging up outside the office for anyone to grab because it was after hours (6pm). Good luck with getting any decent wifi while you’re there. There was no way to search for anything on our phones. We had to drive up the road to get a signal to make a phone call. Once we got inside the cabin we quickly realized that we weren’t able to stay at that property for the weekend. In addition to the lack of wifi, there were stains all over the bedroom floor, on the bed comforter, and in the bathroom (pictures included). The cabin overall felt claustrophobic and gross. Upon vacating the property, we were berated by the woman in the trailer next to the office for finding other accommodations and for bringing our issues to light with the booking agent.

Really enjoyed our multiple day stay here! We have tiny camper and two dogs and this was a perfect spot for us. It was quiet, felt private, and had a lot of communal areas including pavilions to sit under, a kitchen with a stove and hang out spot, and our favorite: a beautiful trail along a small creek. All of the hook ups at the site were nice and well maintained. We don’t use laundry or the showers so I can’t speak to that but I’m sure those were plenty fine. We had zero issues with the staff as they were laid back and easy to chat with. The location is great for visiting Cloudcroft or Alamogordo. Will stay again when we head this way next. Thanks for having us!

This was supposed to be a peaceful trip. We stopped by the front office and picked up the map that was going to be left out for us to pick up upon arrival, as they were aware we would arrive after business hours. We looked at the map and questioned the space number upon ourselves, but drove and found our assigned spot. The next morning my SO left to hunt, as my little one and I are enjoying the campground I was approached by a very rude female and asked what I was doing there and continues to ask if I had a reservation and kept insisting I was in the wrong area. I gave the name the reservation was under and the spot which we were assigned and clearly the pole stated the number. She proceeded to continue to basically yell at me and if I would have picked up the map I would have known I was in the wrong area, still knowing the signage was wrong she continued to belittle me, to make things worse I have my little one next to me listening to this inappropriate high tone of voice. She wanted me to move to the correct area, which was fine with me. I just didn’t appreciate the way she spoke to me. Mind you, I am a high-risk pregnancy and that’s the reason we had to stay behind at the site. The couple staying right next to us heard the entire ordeal. I did apologize as I didn’t know there were two of the same number spots. we paid for a 2 night reservation and left within morning hours because of the bad service.

I called this morning to get a refund as this is unacceptable. That same lady began to yell at me again and she even threatened me stating that she would be contacting a legal team for my bad behavior over the phone! She told me the manager was not in yet, so I said I would call back. Upon calling my call kept going straight to voicemail. I called from a different phone and like magic she answered again and once I asked for the manager she didn’t not respond and eventually hung up. Now none of the calls are going through, going straight to voicemail. As an oilfield business owner in Lea county, this is ridiculous and unacceptable. This is not a family-friendly place. I will be making a trip down there to get my refund.

Update: I was never contacted and my number is still blocked. I’m glad you and your team discussed it upon yourselves and just left it at that. There was never an attempt to contact me. I’m glad you were quick enough to jump on a review to finally submit a response, it says a lot about a “business”. I enjoyed reading the assumptions made that we were on a spot that was not rented, technically meaning we were freeloading, even though bank statement shows fee’s charged from your facility. A labeling area mistake from your facility, yet I never got an apology. A “group”? Like I said before, you all are quick to say untruthful things, just so it won’t hurt your “business”. I am still waiting for a call from your legal team as that’s what I was told. The incident and the truth must be told as it is. Anyways, your right driving down for a refund serves no good as I’m sure your “business” needs the revenue. S/O to a different local real business that took us in last minute without reservation. I will be leaving them a great review. From one business to another, thank you for your response on...

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THE CABIN!!! This place was a nightmare. Over priced cheapy dirty lodging ran by a old men frat boys. The cabin was not as listed. It's a SHARED cabin with the owner although listed (and priced) as a private cabin. Listed as family friend yet we got a complaint that our kids noise was excessive from INSIDE of the cabin. ||||The cabin comes with no view and lots of attitude. Decorated with cheap tacky prints in goodwill frames with price tags on every single one. ||||The "maintenance guy" came onto the property on our 1st morning to yell at us and treat us like children over the fire pit we used the night before. He came trying to intimidate us, threatening that we are going to be charged for excessive damage, at the very start of our stay. There is NO communication here. No instructions, no checkout or checkin information, nothing. We placed a log on a propane firepit because we were supplied a nearly empty propane tank, and were unaware we could burn a log on it. Again, no information about ANYTHING anywhere inside or out. just an inaccurate map. Once he saw we were recording this, he sped off in his truck yelling "I'm taking away your fire privileges". We spent our Saturday morning cleaning out that firepit with our bare hands, it looked and functioned 10x better than when we arrived. Not my idea of vacationing! So we didn't mess with it the remainder of our 2 days there.||||We came for the view and campfire, both we didn't get to experience here. Went to talk to the owner after the maintenance man drama and he could care less and then sat there blaming us for excessive noise from my kids (sorry that you CHOOSE to live in the same cabin you rent), parking in "his driveway" for a few hours last night (again, you chose this life bud), and saying stupid things like, "wheres your realtors license" (huh?!?!).||||Biggest waste of money ever. There's a reason there are no pictures. Map advertises the other cabin is private and seperated, NOPE, shared cabin. Pictures are of the "amazing view", aka the owners junky backyard and a crappy doghouse (which we were scolded for turning on the light of). STAY...

We rented the Mountain Cabin and it ended up being a double wide trailer that had a partitioned off and shared with the owners. The day after we got there, someone on the other side of the trailer was smoking weed and it was coming through our vents. We initially rented the cabin so we could have privacy ( it advertised as secluded) but we felt like we had no privacy. When we checked in, we were told by the front desk that we could hike up the hill to have a campfire. When we got up there, it was good...there was a campfire ring for the kids to make smores and there were tree branches that had been cut that were leaning against a tree. The kids loved it and thought it would be cool to make a fort out of them. We helped out kids arrange them to make a tee-pee....in the exact same area and leaning against the exact same tree that they were on when we got there. The owner walked up the hill and told us to make sure we didnt burn them because they were going to use them to build fence. We assured him we werent and that we had got our own firewood. Shortly after, our five kids ( ages 3-10) came down so upset because the owner's wife had gone up there and tore down there fort. For absolutely no reason but to be spiteful. She literally took the wood that was formed into a tee-pee and threw them down into a pile on the ground. We paid over $1000 to get away into mountains with our family, where we thought would be secluded...but ended up sharing a trailer house with the owners and our kids treated like trash. They shouldnt rent our the other half of their house if they arent going to let guests use the same area and monitor them. We were respectful, didnt trash the place, watched our kids but it ended up being a terrible experience. I wouldnt recommend anyone going with their family...
