Terrible experience, if you have a large group DO NOT COME HERE. Fist off we were greeted by the site host minutes after arrival with a 20 minute long, rule list. Quiet hours begin at 10:00PM which we interpreted as campfires being put out, music off, and quite. Well apparently “quite hours” means go to SLEEP because around 10:30 the camp host walked into our area and told us to “rap it up and go to sleep” mind you the fire was out, music was off, we had one lantern in the middle of our site with our chairs surrounding talking amongst ourselves. The host walked in the site unannounced and told us all to “go to sleep” and if she had to come back to our site then we will be escorted off site by the sheriff.

We camped with a group of 20, prior to booking the site we read through to website to ensure it would fit our needs. NO WHERE on site does it state 3 tents per site (we booked 2 sites) we had our main site where we spent most our time and the second site for a tent. Mind you the second site was on a steeper hill that was only capable of holding maybe 2 tents even though it was posted to hold a party of 10. The host came by and made us separate our tents and split up. SO CLEARLY THEY MAKE UP RULES as they go because again, no where on the website does it state this.

There was ALSO an issue with parking, we paid extra for an addition vehicle per site and the host aggressively walked in our site and demand payment for the additional vehicles even though it was paid online during booking.

All around TERRIBLE experience, clearly it’s an authoritarian ran site with intense rules, it was unenjoyable because at any given moment the host could pop up with a new rule/ regulation.

And to top it off the restrooms...

Just camped here for the 1st time.. GREAT Experience! Nice Host!

I found this spot by researching online to see what campsite opens up early April. This did and we enjoyed our campfire at night due to the nighttime and morning cold temps. The campsite is well maintained and bathrooms are relatively kept clean for what they are (typical campsite bathrooms) - they smell decent at least. Too bad there's no showers here, but next time I'll buy one of those portable camping showers.. Easy fix.

The camp host, Richard, is new and very nice. Contrary to what another review posted here negatively says (by Matt), must be another Richard (Dick) from last year. This Richard that started new this year was very accommodating and we seen him actively attending to all the camper's needs and also attending to the bathrooms to keep them clean and tidy.

Other pluses about the campgrounds are the running water spigots located by each bathroom. Also, the campgrounds are divided by site A and site B.. Site A requires reservations during peak season, and do have a bear locker located on each campsite. However, site B allows for walk-up reservations, but downside is there are no bear lockers yet. Luckily we did not spot any bears!! Lol

The creek does have a few pockets of deeper pools. One in particular up towards to pump station gets stocked with rainbow trout in Spring, in our case, it got stocked April 5th.

Overall great experience and nice camp host. I'd come back again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place for friends and family...

We stayed in campsite 22. It’s right next to the creek and you can hear the water at night. The only downside is that it’s across the way from the day use picnic area and people like to walk down along the creek. I wouldn’t have mentioned this except that we experienced a lot of noisy, screaming, crying kids who were throwing rocks trying to kill fish and just overall disturbing the peace.

It is a very large camp sight which is great for large parties. Great campground overall for hammocks. To my knowledge I don’t believe you can researve this spot online. From what we heard it’s first come first serve. There is a two vehicle and two tent limit on this site and although you can pay for an extra vehicle, you are unable to pay for an extra tent.

The camp host Roger was really cool and down to earth. He enforces the rules as necessary- although there is a sign up about barking dogs, of which we heard several on the weekend nights during our stay, I don’t think there’s much he could do about that. I wish people would be mindful of a yapping dog and how much it disturbs neighboring campers and nature. Another point I might add it all the trash we picked up around the site when we first got there. We definitely left the place cleaner then we found it. Roger thanked us immensely for doing our part, he said the amount of trash his has to pick up after people leave is ridiculous.

Camping is awesome. Nature is great. Please pick up your trash and be respectful of the facilities that enable is to take a break from...

Christopher Creek Campground is just outside of Payson, Arizona and is located in the Tonto National Forest at the base of the Mogollan Rim. It's filled with the beauty of Ponderosa pine, Juniper, Manzanita, Oak, and Evergreen shrubs. The campground is all paved, has 43 sites (all sites are non-electric) and plenty of vault toilets. Each site has a picnic table, water spigot, fire ring, and metal bear box to store food. We stayed in Loop A at site #13 right along the creek. It was a great location because we could play cards at the table and still be able to watch the kids as they biked the loop and caught crawdads in the creek. One group site can hold up to 25 people and sits at a great spot just above the creek. I would love to come back for a big group camp of kids there. The creek gets stocked with Rainbow Trout but it's too shallow through the campground. We did hike along the creek and find some pools that came up to our waist. It was nice to lay on a float or just sit with feet in the water. It's just a short drive from camp into the tiny town of Christopher Creek where you can eat at The Creekside Tavern or Landmark at the Creek. For more recreation, take a drive to nearby Woods Canyon Lake. You can rent small boats, do some fishing or just enjoy sitting along the lake and visiting the marina. My favorite is to stop at the Mogollan Rim visitor center to learn about the area, animals, and National Parks. Con: ran out of toilet paper often

If you come during the monsoon season and camping out in a tent for a few days be prepared for lots of humidity (despite it being cooler than Phoenix you will feel damp and sticky) and the creek being flooded out 5-10ft off the bank (there was some heavy rain the area when I was here) when I went at the end of July for 4 days.. it was worth it though in my opinion. There were a good variety of mushrooms sprouting along numerous areas of the campground which was pretty cool. Didn't do much fishing due to all the sediment/dirt in the water...and then the creek turning into a quick flowing brown river it was definitely not safe for kids and even adults probably...but it all depends because it's normally clear and generally shallow if it hasn't rained for a few days. I will be back again of course because I love this place, and the campground hosts are cool and they take care of ya.
