If you're a stargazer, nature lover, or just in need of a tranquil escape, Dark Sky RV Campground is an absolute gem that deserves every one of its five stars. Nestled deep in the heart of Kanab, this RV campground is a haven of serenity, offering a remarkable experience that will leave you yearning for more.
We stayed at this RV campground from April 9th to April 30th, 2023. Our arrival was made even more memorable thanks to the warm and hospitable greeting we received from Jeff. To put it simply, Jeff was exceptional, and the entire staff proved to be nothing short of amazing throughout our stay.
The park is thoughtfully enclosed, with an electric passcode gate, instilling a reassuring sense of safety for all guests coming in and out.
We were in site #1, a well-maintained spacious pull-through, with full hook-ups. It was a level gravel area that accommodated our RV and vehicles. Our site included a propane fire pit, a shade structure, and furniture for extra comfort. The sites are thoughtfully designed to provide a sense of privacy, allowing you to enjoy your surroundings.
Its immediately clear that Dark Sky RV Campground lives up to its name. With minimal artificial lighting, the night sky is nothing short of breathtaking. The lack of light pollution reveals an awe-inspiring display of stars, constellations, and even the Milky Way, making it a prime destination for avid astronomers.
The on-site amenities are top-notch, offering everything you need to enjoy your stay. Clean and well-kept bathhouses, showers, and modern laundry facilities, a covered central communal area that includes a fire pit, perfect for enjoying a campfire under the starry night sky, as well as a pavilion for group gatherings and events. They offer a 24/7 market with drinks and snacks available that is operated on a honor system for payment. They also have on-site propane that can be purchased, various fun activities for kids, a nice size enclosed dog park, and they accept mail from all sources.
The most distinctive aspects is their willingness to go the extra mile to enhance your experience. They provide on-site vehicle rentals, including Off-Road 4x4 Roxors and e-bikes, opening a world of exploration opportunities. The staff know the area well and all the must-see places around and can help plan your adventures, ensuring that you get the most out of your visit. We enjoyed 2 days exploring the surrounding area in one of their Roxor rentals. Dark Sky RV Campground is conveniently located near hiking trails, wildlife sanctuaries, and picturesque natural wonders. There is so much to see.
Dark Sky RV Campground is an exceptional destination for anyone seeking a tranquil and awe-inspiring escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The combination of its stunning dark-sky environment, well-maintained facilities, and helpful staff creates an unforgettable experience. It's the perfect place to reconnect with nature and reconnect...
Read moreWe had the best week at Dark Sky over Thanksgiving Weekend! My husband and I typically do weekend trips in our van and do a lot of boon docking. This is the first time we stayed in a campground with the van & we are so glad we did! From the booking (a luxury van camp?! Sign me up!) to the arrival - the trip started off great! The signage and check-in process is so well thought out. Chris directed us to our site & set us up for the week perfectly. I also loved the texting service they have set up!
We were obsessed with the privacy and tranquility of our site. A true respite from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives and such a nice break from having to move around constantly like usual when boon docking. Our site had electricity, a private cabana with propane fire pit, multiple seating options, multiple tables, and a hammock!
I’m sure the other reviews go over this well- but never in my life have I seen a sky like this! The views in the daytime of the scenery and the nighttime sky are unmatched.
We had to work a few day of our trip, so good WiFi access was important and Dark Sky did not disappoint! I was able to hold Zoom calls and VOIP calls with no issues all day.
It rained a few days of our trip, but we weren’t confined to our van— which was huge. We were able to hang out in the terrace area, use the outdoor kitchen to cook a pizza (so cool) and stay warm & dry.
Dark Sky hosted an incredible Thanksgiving Social and we had such a fabulous time meeting other families traveling for the holiday. The food was amazing and all 3 host couples did such an awesome job preparing and coordinating it.
On the last day of our stay we rented the Dark Sky Jeep and took it out for the day to off-road and sight see! We got to see some incredible things really close by (Peek-a- boo canyon, Red Knoll, Pink Coral Sand Dunes, and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary) We even got to visit an awesome restaurant in town for dinner after the long day!
As for the Staff - such a pleasant experience! Everyone was helpful and welcoming! Britt & Jeff the owners are so kind and such cool people, you’ll love them! Most of our interactions were with Chris & Tiff who really went the extra mile to make sure we were taken care of.
If you are looking for a break from your typical boon docking or even from the basic campground, Dark Sky IS IT! Especially as part-time digital nomads. We will absolutely be back, and next time, we’re bringing more...
Read moreFrom this point forward in our lives, all RV campgrounds will be compared to Dark Sky RV Campground. It is truly amazing in so many ways. Although some would call it "luxury camping", that might give some people the wrong idea. There is no concrete patios, no swimming pools or hot tubs or gyms at Dark Sky. ||I would call it "boujee camping". The campsites are spread out so you're not fearing your neighbors slider knocking into your camper or wallowing in their BBQ smoke. There's 50-100 feet of separation on the main loop and 20-50 feet of separation on the electric only sites, which mostly hosts vans. Each site is paved in rounded cobbles to keep down the dust, with reddish pea gravel in the pedestrian areas. Each site includes a wooden and cloth shade structure. Ours included two chaise lounges, a dining table and two chairs, a hammock and a propane fire pit.||The bathrooms are neatly designed with cozy tile, heat and good ventilation. The showers also have that cozy clean feel too. There's a large covered terrace area with a BBQ and pizza oven and two propane fire pits with various outdoor furniture to relax and hangout. There's a small store with snacks, beverages and merchandise all on the honor pay system via Venmo or cash. A similar terrace will be built on the smaller loop in the near future.||The staff was amazing from the first minute to the last minute. Everyone of them was more about making you feel like family that mining your wallet for cash. They were all super friendly and helpful. On Thursdays, they host a social with beer and wine and snacks and it really amounted to more like a pot luck dinner. We spent a lot of time chatting with one of the owners and it was clear that the guest experience was their number one priority.||We were there for four nights and we are already thinking about spending a week there next time. Kanab is a great central location for visiting the national parks, various state parks and a host of other attractions. It was also a great place to hand around and slow down the...
