We were searching for a quiet and green free camping option on our way to Utah on a Saturday in July, around 4pm.

I found this free campground along a beautiful river on google maps and we checked it out. It was completely full. So we drove up a road for some miles and found another spot directly by the street but with a fire place and grandios view on the green mountains all around. So we decided to stay here for the night.

The nature is absolutely breathtaking but this road up the hill is used by tons of people who are driving high speed like on Pikes Peak Hill Climb and in many cases with loud music on so that you can here them already for miles. We came here at 4:30pm and people drove up and down until midnight. It wasn’t a peaceful place anymore and even in the middle of the night cars drove down like at 1am and 3am. It’s crazy when you’re camping directly next to the street.

Anyway, there was an outhouse (very dirty, but at least you could use it).. down the road a bit.

I still rate with 3 stars here because the nature and views are extremely beautiful and we haven’t camped down the river, but next to...

Ok, this is a beautiful area alongside a rushing stream. For tent camping, you can actually get right next to the water, hike for miles (this area is popular for cave enthusiasts) and have a glorious time. The temperature was easily 15-20 degrees lower than the highway just a few miles back. (Where it was in the mid 90’s) There is a pit toilet up the road maybe a mile and a half…(no water or trash) and there was some dusty traffic up and down the access road. So we drive a small motor home and found a wide parking area that was actually parking for a tent site on the creek. It was fine, close to the main highway but no highway noise, good water sounds and cooler temps. At the end of a very long driving day, it was...

There are 5 free first come first serve numbered campsites. Most are large enough to accommodate a group if needed, they are spacious.

We stayed at campsite number one for three nights and shared with a different person each night since it was just the two of us and there were at least 4 spots very spread out for tents to be set up. Each site has one picnic table and fire ring.

It was SO NICE! Right by the water so the sound from the river really helped us sleep. The road noise didn't bother us at all since the water was so loud. It was just a very pleasant site. Everyone we met was super nice and chill. Not a lot of garbage around either...
