East Canyon Resort has seen better days, MUCH better days. For about 15-20 years, my family has traditionally stayed in their condos for Thanksgiving/Christmas for about 2 weeks time, but the most recent visit has changed our minds (detailed below).
For as long as I can remember, a woman named Carol had been the manager of ECR (very pretentious of me to mention, but they were indeed good times). A couple years ago she retired, and new management has since taken over. The place has been gradually going downhill ever since.
If you want to stay longer than a week in their condos, you must pay an additional fee AND move to another condo. It seems that dollar and diming the customer is the best way to do business these days.
Among the missing utensils (measuring cups/mixers/etc), ECR was very stingy about replacing our toiletries/necessities. We had used an unusually high amount of paper products and bath towels, partly due to 8 guests and all the cooking and cleaning that had to be done (it was a 2-week long Thanksgiving vacation after all). Turns out, ECR was actually keeping a tally of our usage on STICKY NOTES (no joke). Once we had reached their quota, we were told there would be a fee for continued service. The best part? ...the rulebook gives no mention of this fee. We were forced to do our own laundry in their bug infested public laundromat, using their stinky 75¢ 1970s washing machines (yay!).
Depending on the condo, the kids' bedrooms are almost always filled with bugs, or what I like to playfully call "firebugs" due to the orange/red stripes on their backs. If they are not killed right away, they will continue to conquer the room. They are relentless and like to climb the walls, including but not limited to the nightstand and ceiling. I found a couple climbing above my bed, always made me squeamish to sleep in there as I didn't exactly want to find one sleeping in my sheets, or falling on top of me. I can understand the occasional bug, but these particular bugs are frequent visitors. When I had first arrived at the condo, I vacuumed up about 25 dead bugs. Apparently, the condo hadn't been lived in for awhile.. this FACT actually speaks volumes, as the majority of our vacation was spent in a ghost town. There had been no sign of a trailer in the RV parking either.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the recreational activities you've been removing, such as the pool table or fitness room. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if the golf course was next on your wrecking ball list. Maybe it's the expired food sitting on your country store shelves (last year I found cake icing that had expired in 2010).
On one occasion, the power had went out for a few hours.. knowing ECR, it was probably planned to cut costs. This outage put their poor Wi-Fi router out of service for several days, which brings me to another issue I've had for some time. I know ECR is located in the middle of nowhere, where internet is considered a delicacy, but we live in the 21st century where Wi-Fi is just as much a household name as the telephone---IT'S TRUE! A good and reliable Wi-Fi signal would be very appreciated in all condos, not just the ones located closest to your routers' location.
ECR, you don't want to piss off your customers.. you don't look like you can afford it.
Rule #1: The customer is always right. Rule #2: When in doubt, always...
Read moreThe location of the resort is excellent if you like fishing and water sports, as it is very close to a large reservoir. However, the unit we were assigned was absolutely filthy. Gunk in the showers and on the shower heads (we wiped them off easily, so obviously no one had bothered to even attempt to clean them), huge stains all over the carpet and everything just generally dirty. We joked that we were pretending to be camping out, as there was just about as much dirt in the unit as if we'd been outside. And they even charged us an $85 housekeeping fee!!! Ridiculous. The amenities (pool, hiking trails, pond) all have gates which require an entry code. That's fine if the staff will give you the code. But if you aren't the person on the reservation (in this case, our daughter and her family, who joined us for this vacation), you can forget about getting the codes. They don't give them out unless you are the person who reserved the unit. We had added our daughter to the reservation, and she even checked in before we did, so they had her name...but they still wouldn't give her any codes directly (they sent them to us instead and we had to give them to her, but the email clearly said we had to accompany her whenever she and her family used the amenities). It was just all very strange. The staff was nice about it and explained that those are just the rules, but it seems to me that if someone's name has been added to the reservation, and they are allowed to do the check in, they should also be allowed to use the amenities. We all did have a great time...but the lack of cleanliness in the unit was just too much...
Read moreThis resort was half RVs and half condos. We arrived and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. Told us about the area and things to do on-site. They gave us keys and we checked into our unit right next to the pool. The unit was hot and there is no A/C. You had to open the windows and turn on all the fans to try to cool the place down. There is no washing machine in the unit, we were told there was one in another building. The unit was clean but needs a major upgrade. The carpet was very worn, and the couch was difficult to sit on. Plus side the room was well insulated, never heard any kid noise on either side of us. There was a family with 4 kids on one side and family with 3 kids on the other side.||||There were many different activities one could do: putt-putt, volleyball, basketball, pickle ball, shuffleboard and tennis. You could get the equipment for free at the main store. However, the putt-putt course really needs to be redone, the surface was torn in many places. There was a playground for the kids. There are some hiking trails. There is no restaurant on-site and not many choices nearby. ||||Experience overall was pleasant. A few upgrades to the unit and the amenities would go a long way. We were there to visit family which was about 45 minutes away. We slept and showered and spent most of our time with family at their resident. We would probably come back but again we used this place to sleep and shower, before heading out...
