My two teens and I really enjoyed our stay at the Grand Canyon Glamping Resort!
We began our check-in day with a drive to the Hoover Dam from Vegas. Breakfast at Chilly Jilly's Patio was fabulous; the big horn sheep in Hemenway park were majestic; and the Hoover Dam Postcard Raft Tour exceeded our expectations. We drove from there to Grand Canyon West (through Arizona's amazing Joshua Tree forest), and marveled at Eagle Point and Guano Point. It was very convenient to drive to nearby Grand Canyon Glamping Resort (GCGR) for a one-night stay.
Google maps is correct with regard to navigating to GCGR, and the dirt road turn-off was well-marked (if not well-lit - probably more ideal to arrive during daylight). Check-in with Brenda was a breeze, and our covered wagon was bigger than expected. We had a full shower (without hot water in the morning, unfortunately); a toilet; bunk beds that fit two teens who are under 5 foot 10 inches tall; a king size bed; two bedside tables; a round table; chairs. The covered wagon was surprisingly spacious. I brought a sound machine from home which helped drown out guests singing around campfires when we went to bed around 10pm. We received a key so we could lock the wagon when we asked for it, and we had no problem packing up and clearing out before the 9am check-out time.
We received 25% off of our meals at the Last Chance Saloon restaurant onsite because we sent in our orders in advance by email. (Note that the restaurant automatically adds 20% gratuity onto the meal bill.) We thought the $20 burgers (and potato chips) and $20 breakfast (eggs, toast, bacon, potatoes) were delicious, and we didn't mind waiting half an hour or so for our meals after telling the kitchen what we had ordered by email several days before. Ruby was a friendly and helpful server, and all of the staff that we interacted with at GCGR were kind and hospitable.
The best part was the Helicopter Ride at 9am the morning we checked out! After we wandered around and looked at the buffalo, goats, and alpaca on the property, we checked in with Linda. She was so kind and friendly during our check-in process, and the helicopter pilot with Wild West Helicopters Las Vegas was wonderful too. He gave us fascinating information about the Grand Canyon, made jokes that eased any nervousness, and was a charming host. The views were jaw-dropping! This flight was not only a highlight of our entire trip to Las Vegas and surrounding area...it was a highlight of all of our travels!
After the helicopter ride, we went back to our car rental to drive back to Vegas only to find a completely flat tire! A resort staff person named Willy rescued us by changing the tire to the spare, and even offered to try to patch the original tire. He was so helpful, and we were incredibly grateful to him for helping us out of a sticky situation.
In sum, I'd highly recommend the Grand Canyon Glamping Resort, and specifically the covered wagons, the restaurant, and the helicopter tour. This was exactly what I was hoping for when I booked it, and was one of the best parts of our...
Read moreThis is a great place to go if you want to totally ruin your vacation. You get picked up from the strip and dropped off to the resort. Here no one will acknowledge you unless you’re going on a helicopter, quad bike or horse riding experience as they’re the only guests who matter. There’s an option to buy a special birthday package where they take 150$ and put a couple balloons in your tent along with a pathetic cake and a bottle of champagne. For me this was unacceptable, so I had this refunded, and they instead handed the cake out to the rest of the guests totally free of charge in front of us. If you want to go hiking round the area there’s loads of hills around… but they’re all fenced off so nothing is accessible. You can’t see the sunset or sunrise from this resort but you can see where it’s suppose to be. You can have smores in the evening round a camp fire if the wind isnt too high. But you only find out the wind is too high when you’ve asked each memeber of staff at least 5 times individually. And whatever you do don’t take the time they say they’ll get you back to the strip at with any level of seriousness. They say it’s around 10/11, but by that they mean whatever time the more important guests arrive who are doing the helicopter. So give them a leeway of around 5 hours. Who doesn’t want to spend their precious vacation time sat in a car park for hours on end after all anyway? And if you want an update… there’s a lot of staff you can speak to, they’ll all tell you it’s nothing to do with them and they’re not the ones who caused the problem. There’s only one guy who works with the horses that actually cares and helps you out. This is the man who should be in charge of the whole thing, it would run much better and the atmosphere would be lovely. Don’t even consider talking to the manager because she goes AWOL the minute a complaint comes in. Aside from all this, the cost of food and drink here is extreme. The cost is so high and the serving...
Read moreOur stay at the Grand Canyon Glamping Resort was nothing short of unforgettable. From the moment we were picked up from our hotel on the Las Vegas trip, Mica, our driver gave us a great history lesson about the West stopping at the Hoover Dam for a photo op. As soon as we arrived at the resort, we could feel how special this place was. They care for rescue animals on the property. Seeing the love and care they put into the animals truly added to the experience. There was a miniature horse, an alpaca, goats, cows, donkeys, horses and bison.
We stayed in a Geo Dome, and it was magical. Laying in bed at night and looking up at the stars through the dome felt like something out of a dream. The food was very good and super flavorful, which made every meal a treat in itself.
One of the highlights for me was riding an ATV for the very first time. Our guides, Eddie and T.J., were fantastic—so attentive, always making sure we were safe, and giving us plenty of time to stop and take in the breathtaking scenery of the Joshua trees and Grand Canyon with photos.
But as the saying goes, “you save the best for last,” and that’s exactly how I feel about Brenda. She does multiple jobs on premise as do all of the staff, they were ALL extremely helpful. But…I need to do an extra special acknowledgment to Brenda. She went above and beyond to make every guest feel welcome. She somehow remembered everyone’s name and greeted us personally each day, which made us feel special. Calling her sweet would be an understatement—she was attentive, thoughtful, sincere, and always smiling. She created such a relaxed, welcoming environment that truly made our stay complete. Brenda you are fantastic!!!
