False advertisement on their website. I booked the overnight "camp out" for myself and three others for a Saturday night. The website describes an unforgetable experience detailing all the activities included in the overnight campout. For the price of $298.00 pp per night one would think they could deliver on the simple promises. I booked a 2 for 1 through Travelzoo. So I spent only $600.00 instead of $1200.00 for the four of us. My advice keep your money and spend it elsewhere. The management of this ranch does not take pride to deliver what they advertise. The campout was a joke. The horseback ride lasted a half hour at most. The pictured tent cabins and teepes were an exaggeration. They had regular 2 people tents with missing bedding. Some were equipped with mexican blankets only - some with no pillows - some with no sleeping bags. People were cold through the night. The "refreshing beverage" touted to welcome you to the campsite was non exixtent. Not even the offer of cold water was made. The "cowboy" dinner consisted of a piece of precooked foil wrapped chicken (my boyfriend got the chicken back!), precooked foil wrapped plain baked potato - with no seasoning or condiments. A can of ranch style beans was opened and put on a pot over the campfire. All served on a small paper plate. No drinks or beverages served with dinner. Fixings for Smore's (one per person on the chocolate and graham crackers) available. The morning "cowboy coffee" was non existent! The morning horse ride back to the ranch - not to be had as the horses escaped the pen during the night. After calling the ranch twice as we were stranded - we got a ride on the back of a pick up back to the ranch. The "hearty breakfast" at the ranch was cold scrambled eggs, a dollar sized "bisquit" (from a can of generic heat and serve). 2 pieces of under cooked bacon, a quarter cup of yesterdays fried potatoes. The owner Nigel should be ashamed of the way this ranch is being operated. There is no pride of ownership nor a sense of customer service. We learned the cook is off on Saturday's and the maintence man fixed our dinner. I would not return to this place and unfortunately will not be able to speak well of it. The highlight of the trip was the "cowboy" that accompanied us to the campsite. I subsequently learned from someone on the ranch that he is a ranch hand and was asked to fill in at the last minute. I noticed the "cook" didn't prepare enough chicken for dinner to feed the cowboy - really shameful!. To his credit he didn't complain - it was just an observation on my part. Too bad we have to rate this place with even one star. It should be ZERO! If management spent $50.00 for food served to the eight people for Dinner and brerakfast it would have been ten times better than it was. This place was a total rip off! Signed -...
Read moreWe stayed at the Grand Canyon Western Ranch for 2 nights in mid-December. We were surprised to find snow on the ground and it really added to the experience. Despite the cold outside, our Smith cabin was warm and comfortable during our stay. They had the heater running before we arrived, so it was ready for us. The wifi was choppy, but we were able to access our emails a few times a day; it was actually a relief to be forced to put the electronics away and focus on family for the duration of our stay. The ranch was a quick drive to the Grand Canyon West Rim and the Sky Walk. We spent a few hours exploring Eagle Point on the afternoon of our arrival. We enjoyed the Trail ride that met up with the Sunset Wagon Ride. I was able to ride up with my older children, while my husband rode in the wagon with our youngest who is still too little to ride. It was nice that the whole family could enjoy the trip. Our youngest felt really special sitting up front with Cowboy John and the trail horses were great. It was one of the best rides my kids have been on. Even though our youngest couldn't ride on her own, she was able to get a pony ride around the property. We really enjoyed all the hospitality. Everyone was friendly and helpful. There was a good selection for meals and despite the ranch being sold out during our weekend, it was never crowded. They even have some family games available in the main house and we had fun playing Trouble after breakfast. The highlight of the trip was the campfire in the evenings with s'mores. Cowboy Casey's stories and songs were a hit. My kids asked for him everyday and we often got to see him during meal times and he joined us during our Sunset ride to give us some history about the ranch and the bison. After we got home, I started playing some of his music from his website, and my kids simultaneously asked "Is this Casey?!". After our stay, we asked the kids what they liked better: our one night stay at Bellagio, Las Vegas or the Grand Canyon Western Ranch; they unanimously voted for the Ranch. We would definitely look forward to...
Read moreOur stay at the Grand Canyon Western Ranch was wonderful, or I dare say perfection. Very picturesque with Spirit Mountain keeping watch over the ranch. The cabin was comfy and relaxed. They have AC and heat in the cabins. The heat was a faux (gas) wood burning stove and was very cozy to fall asleep to. Our cabin happen to be near the horse stables and one of their horses named Comanche would come over and say hi to us every morning as we left. Sometimes he would turn and want his back scratched. We came to find out later that Comanche is a full on Mustang. Can’t be ridden yet but that should be a spirited ride when you can. Very fun. The onsite restaurant was great. Staff was so nice the food was good. Every night around the campfire with the backdrop of Casey singing cowboy songs we would roast marshmallows and eat s’mores. There were even guests from the other guest ranches in the area that came to see Arizona Casey singing by the camp fire. The entire crew was very nice and eager to help you in any way they could. But a few stood out. Linda – the busiest woman in Arizona. Working the front, the restaurant, and helping guests. And does it with a smile. You could see it in her eyes, ‘cause the face mask you know. Casey – Arizona Casey! What can be said? He is a treasure. A wealth of entertainment, and a wealth of knowledge. His telling of the Ranch’s history is absolutely incredible. When he is singing cowboy songs or making up one of his homegrown ditty’s around the campfire the worries of the world just melt away. Dean – The confidence of this true cowboy just radiates as he handles the horses and guests. Going on the sunset trail ride and having never ridden a horse I was nervous and anxious but he got me on the horse (Daisy I think?) told me how to hold the reins and said enjoy the ride. With his quiet assurance I knew it would be okay. And it was. He checked on me throughout the ride....
